Clarence Dittemore

Clarence Eugene Dittemore, 80, of 166 Bowers St. in Bowman died Jan. 20, 2004, at Hart Care Center in Hartwell.
A native of Gulfport, Ind., he was a son of the late Winford Dittemore and Inez Dittemore. He was of the Baptist faith. He was retied from a mobile home manufacturing plant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a son, Roger Ratcliff of Bowman.
Graveside funeral services were held Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman with the Rev. M.C. Radford officiating.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frankie Carter

Frankie Dalton Carter, 51, of Elberton died Jan. 19, 2004.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of Fannie Mae Martin Carter and the late John Dalton Carter. He was a member of Carlton Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three daughters, Nicole Carter, Lisa Carter and Ashley Carter, all of Springfield, Mass.; a son, Derrick Baker of Atlanta; four sisters, Nancy Carter, Barbara Carter and Louise Wragg, all of Elberton, and Rosalind Jones of Decatur; and two brothers, Ronald Dye of Chicago, Ill., and Gregory Faust of Elberton.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Carlton Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Quincy Fortson officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Heights Cemetery.
C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Emily Thomas

Emily Lucille Sanders Thomas, 77, of Birmingham, Ala., died Jan. 26, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Conrad Thomas Sr.; two sisters, Louise Sanders Warren and Elizabeth Sanders Timmons; and two brothers, Charles W. Sanders and James Albert Sanders.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Conrad Thomas Jr. and James Reese Thomas; two sisters, Katherine Sanders and Mary Sanders Fendley of Elberton; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today at Rideout's Elmwood Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Sarah Mosteller

Sarah Adele Woodward Mosteller, 63, of 174 Springdale Road in Elberton died Jan. 26, 2004, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Greenville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Woodward and Beatrice Blackstone Woodward. She was a member of the Garden Club and was owner/operator of the Needle Nook. She was a member of Elberton First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Rebuilders Class and was a secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Ford Mosteller Jr.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Pamela Harty of Eatonton and Deidre Knight of Madison; a stepson, J. Ford Mosteller III of Atlanta; a brother, Chester Woodward of Columbia, S.C.; four step-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Elberton First Baptist Church with Dr. Alan Lockerman officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elberton First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Glaude, David Harty, Judson Knight, Ronnie Brown, Ed Shive and William Woodward.
The body will lie in state from 12:30-1 p.m. just prior to the service.
Berry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Essie Mae Burgess

Essie Mae Routh Burgess of 1209 Limo Drive in Elberton died March 31, 2004.
A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of the late Robert Routh and Doris Calhoun Routh. She was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Lexington.
Survivors include a daughter, Tracey Routh of Elberton; three sisters, Mildred Scott of Stevens, and Juanita Routh and Sheila Routh, both of Elberton; and five brothers, Larry Routh, Stanley Routh, Arthur Joe Routh and the Rev. Michael Routh, all of Elberton, and Jerry Routh of Hartwell.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Lofton Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John Strong officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Heights Cemetery.
C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Moss

Lillie Juanita Bolton Moss of 1618 Old Farm Drive in Elberton died March 30, 2004.
A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of Rosa Lee Turman of Elberton and the late Zorias Bolton. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was a former employee of the U.S. Naval Base in Athens.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Freddie D. Moss of Elberton; two step-daughters, Shannon Moss and Pamela Lott, both of Buford; and a sister, Barbara Banks of Elberton.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Mt. Calvary Family Life Center with the Rev. Quincy Fortson officiating. Burial was in Pineview Cemetery.
C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jack Lyle

Henry Jackson "Jack" Lyle Sr. of Taylors, S.C., died March 28, 2004.
A native of Elberton, he was a son of the late Lamar Henry and Eugenia Anderson Lyle. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was retired as business supervisor with the Greenville News. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Lyle; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry Jackson Jr. and Sandra Epps Lyle; an aunt, Mrs. J.B. Hammond of Elberton; an uncle, Sanford C. Stone of Elberton; a grandson; and cousins.
Graveside funeral services were held March 31 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Woodlawn Funeral Home in Greenville, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Lula Teasley

Lula Jane Teasley of 140-A Burke St. in Elberton died March 29, 2004.
A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of Annie Laura Heard Tate of Elberton and the late Albert Gray.
She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a daughter, Mary Frances Burden of Elberton; four sons, Eddie Frank Teasley, Linberg Teasley, Addie Brook Teasley and James Albert Teasley, all of Elberton; six sisters, Sara Lewis, Estelle Calhoun, Beatrice Brown, Christine Fortson and Alice Teasley, all of Elberton, and Mammie Lue of Sarasota, Fla.; six brothers, Albert Gray Jr. of Newark, N.J., Otis Heard Sr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., Edward Brown of Elberton, Charles Brown of Elberton, James Brown of Elberton and Jimmy Brown Sr. of Riveria Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Rose Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. John Strong officiating.
Burial was in Lincoln Heights Cemetery.

Ison Hamilton

Ison Hamilton, 96, of Spring Valley Nursing Home in Elberton died April 3, 2004.
A native of Boomer, W. Va., he was a son of the late Samuel Aken Hamilton and Emma Francis Williams Hamilton.
He was a retired landscaper for the University of Miami, Fla.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivory Shepard Bailey Hamilton, and a stepdaughter, Edna Marie Hamilton.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Lorene Kidd of Carlton and Eva Pauline White of Miami, Fla.; two stepsons, Harold Bailey of Dewy Rose and Bernard Bailey of Elberton; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Bailey, Kenneth Bailey, Travis Rice, James White, Tom McKinney, Rufus Kidd and Charles Smart.
Berry Funeral Home in Elberton was in charge of arrangements.

June McCannon

June Marie Wilder McCannon, 65, of 165 Auld Avenue in Elberton died April 4, 2004, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Beulah Leon Clayton Wilder.
She was a homemaker and a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Wilder, and a sister, Judy Harrison.
Survivors include her husband, Joe McCannon of the home; four daughters, Tammy Lowney of Dewy Rose, Debbie Doane of Columbus, Ohio, Pam McCannon of Arnoldsville and Annete Buffington of Elberton; a sister, Lois Ivester of Dewy Rose; two brothers, Jimmy Wilder and Herman Wilder, both of Elberton; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Peavy officiating.
Burial was in Deep Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
