Danny Glenn

Danny Ray Glenn, 61, of Carlton died Nov. 23, 2004.

A native of Elbert County, he was a son of Louise Paul Glenn of Carlton and the late Fred W. Glenn. He was a member of Carlton Baptist Church, the American Legion of Lexington and was retired former owner of Engineering and Cycle Company in Comer.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Patricia Glenn of the home; a son, Marty Glenn of Carlton; a brother, Don K. Glenn of Carlton; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Carlton Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Entombment will be in the Carlton City Cemetery.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Strickland, Mike Alewine, Jeff Glenn, Van Gunter, Phil Cashin, Stan Ogletree, Ricky Drew and Marshall King. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Arthur Lomant, Larry Seymour, Clois Worley, Larry Johnson, Ray Jones, Eddie Nelms and Mike Kuhn.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home and on Friday from 1-2 p.m. at the church just prior to the service.

The family is at their respective homes.

Ruby Peeples

Ruby Peeples, 85, of Canon died Nov. 25, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Asa and Ethel Allen Peeples. She was a homemaker and member of Double Branches Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Peeples; a son, Bobby Peeples; a daughter, Jeanette Adams; and a granddaughter, Donna Rudeseal.

Survivors include 11 children, Betty Baskins of Danielsville, Joel Peeples of Canon, Margaret Fortson of Danielsville, Linda Rudeseal of Royston, June Brooks of Danielsville, Elaine Finley of Royston, Kathy Fowler of Royston, Don Peeples of Elberton, Ellen Matthews of Lexington, Helen Banister of Royston and Tammy Fitzpatrick of Bowersville; four sisters, Eula Outz, Rachel Whitworth and Lattie Wooten, all of Lavonia, and Florence Norris of Gastonia, N.C.; 34 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Pruitt Funeral Home chapel in Royston with the Rev. Eldon Massey and the Rev. Grant Myerholtz officiating. Burial was in the Double Branches Baptist Church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Double Branches Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Bob Heath

Dr. Robert W. "Bob" Heath, 67, of Franklin Springs died Nov. 27, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Tulsa, Okla., he was a son of Sue Wever Heath of Tulsa, Okla., and the late A.J. "Jack" Heath. He was a retired college professor at Emmanuel College and had also taught at Oral Roberts University and Southwestern Bible College. He was teaching online for the University of Maryland. He was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended The Grove in Maysville. He was a member of the Georgia Communication Association, the Georgia Golf Association, the Family Motor Coach Association and the Georgia Newmar Motor Coach Association. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lynne Heath, and a half-sister, Jacqueline Heath Hume.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Hester L. Henderson Heath of Franklin Springs; a son, Robert D. Heath of Alpharetta; a daughter, Susan Heath Johnson of Monroe; two brothers, A.J. "Jim" Heath of Tulsa, Okla., and Charles Heath of Wellington, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Glen Howard and Pastor Jeff Appling officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Robert W. Heath Memorial Scholarship Fund at Emmanuel College or to the Brain Tumor Clinic at Duke University.

Wynna King

Annie Wynna Osley King, 80, of 3589 Hoot Owl Road in Bowman died Nov. 21, 2004, at Hart County Hospital.

A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford R. and Parrie Seigler Osley. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she served in the WMU and as Primary Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Johnson King; and two brothers, Murlyn and Charles Osley.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Terry Vickery of Hartwell; three sons and daughters-in-law, Myron and Wanda King of Bowman, Randall and Ann King of Royston, Bobby and Patti King of Royston and Alan and Phyllis King of Bowman; a sister, Inez Brown of Bowman; two sisters-in-law, Grace Osley and Carolyn Mize, both of Royston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Beth King of Elberton and Clyde King of Bowman; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at Pruitt Funeral Home chapel in Royston with the Rev. Chris Pritchett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Claude Ray Jr.

Claude Elbert Ray Jr., 79, of 805 Sherwood Drive in Elberton died Nov. 24, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Claude Elbert Ray Sr. and Eula Boswell Ray. He was owner/operator of Claude Ray Ford Sales in Elberton. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees. He was a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Elberton Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, VFW and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was a member and past master of the Elberton Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Doyle and Dennis Ray; a daughter, Janet Ray; four sisters, Annette Gaines, Doris Hudson, Hazel Dean and Joyce Wilson; and two brothers, Herman Ray and Norman Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Ray of the home; two sons, Claude E. Ray III of Athens and Tommy Ray of Elberton; a grandson raised in the home, Jason Ray; two sisters, Joanne Cobo and Linda Hawkins, both of Elberton; a brother, David Ray of Albany; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Fenlon and the Rev. David McConnell officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Granite Center Shrine Club, 2825 Hartwell Highway, Elberton, GA 30635.

Pallbearers were George Worley, Bill Simmons, Mike Patton, Brian Winn, David Ray and Kenneth Drake. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Claude Ray Ford Sales.

Lula Smith

Lula Margaret Smith, 86, of 2171 Bowman Highway in Dewy Rose died Nov. 26, 2004, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late James Tom and Etta Carey Smith. She was a retired textile worker with Candlewick Industries and attended Dewy Rose Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Howell Smith; and a sister, Millie Horne.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harvey Lee and Shirley Crowe of Dewy Rose; a brother, Carey Willard Smith of Royston; four sisters, Tommie Lou Rice of Canon, Veba Phillps of Royston, Etta Jo Bell of Royston and Mary Jean Smith of Royston; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Purvis and the Rev. Kenny Martin officiating. Burial was in the Pennington Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Sammy Carithers Sr.

Samuel "Sammy" Belk Carithers Sr., 69, of 1052 Kathwood Drive in Elberton died Nov. 23, 2004, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late H.G. Carithers and Julia Margaret "Dinky" Dove Carithers. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retiring as a master sergeant after 23 years of service and having served in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He was a former sales manager of Selenas County Appliance. He was a member of the Elberton First United Methodist Church, the Elks Clubs of Elberton and Selenas, Calif., Bassmasters and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Marie Carithers of Merced, Calif., and Yevette Faye Chapa of Madera, Calif.; a son, Samuel Belk Carithers Jr. of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Jimmie Carol Spratlin of LaGrange, Ky.; three grandchildren; and two nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday at Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Phillips officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.

Pallbearers were Richey Eckler, J.M. Thomason, Charles Fortson, Boyd Outz, Pete Anderson and Marice Bond. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Griffith, Nelson Bettis, Larry Veal, Harley Thomason, Walter McNeely and Chandler Barton.

Bill Isom

William Carl "Bill" Isom, 65, of West Plains, Mo., died Aug. 13, 2004, at his home.

A native of Hartwell, he was a son of the late J.P. Isom and Hallie Cleveland Isom. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving for 25 years, and had been a fertilizer dealer. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Dean Isom.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Holly Isom of West Plains, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Bruce Meyer of West Plains, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and B.L. Swords of Elberton; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains, Mo., with the Rev. Glenn Murray officiating. Burial was in Barnett Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Riverways Hospice.

Jenny Beckham

Virginia Lou "Jenny" Ray Beckham, 61, of 1058 Ruckersville Road in Elberton died Aug. 15, 2004.

A native of Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Fred Brooks Ray and Juliette Eaves Ray. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton and a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Buck Ray and Bobby Ray.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Beckham; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Jared and Bridgett Beckham of Elberton; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary and Billy Wilbanks of Jefferson, Jane and Sam Crisco of Covington, Susie and Jerry Hall of Hartwell and Pam Ray of Elberton; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Lera Ray of Elberton; a sister-in-law, Jenette Ray; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday at Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Fenlon officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association or to a charity of one's choice.

Annie Bell Berryman

Annie Bell Berryman, 89, of Winter Garden, Fla., died Aug. 13, 2004.

A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Pat L. and Bertha L. Hilley House. She was a retired seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Taft Berryman, and a daughter, Florence Wood.

Survivors include a son, L.T. Berryman of Bowman; a brother, Ethridge House of Athens; four sisters, Gladys Dove of Danielsville, Willa Lee Moore of Bowman, Kathleen Moore of Royston and Betty Jo Bridges of Anderson, S.C.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Merritt Waters officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel UMC Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston tonight from 6-8 p.m.

The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.T. Berryman, 101 North Broad St. in Bowman.

Marion Fortson

Marion Fortson, 64, of 1811 Deep Creek Road in Dewy Rose died Aug. 16, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of Elberton, he was a son of the late John C. and Annie Ruth Parham Fortson. He was a certified public accountant and a partner in the firm of Fortson and Sanders CPAs. He was past president of the Elberton Rotary Club and a director of Hart Electric Membership Corporation. He was a past director of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Elberton First Baptist Church and the Elberton Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by a sister, Johnnie Brodeur.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Pratt Fortson of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Joanna Fortson of Duluth, and Phil Fortson of Duluth; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Nathan McLendon of Forsyth; three brothers, Wayne Fortson of Savannah, Don Fortson of Comer and Jack Fortson of Augusta; three sisters, Annie Lou Cornell of Comer, Carolyn Barger of Elberton and Dottie Wakefield of Dawsonville; and four grandsons.

A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Elberton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Lowe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Boulevard, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30645.

The family is at the home, where they will receive friends.

Margaret Bentley
Services for Margaret Cannon Bentley will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Vineville United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. Bentley, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998. Born in Blackshear, she was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church and Ed Cook Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, a den mother for the Cub Scouts and was a Brownie Scout leader. She also read to children and was a volunteer with the Morning Star Reading Program.

Survivors include her husband, Julius Marvin Bentley; children, William Bentley of Mount Barker, Australia, Dr. Marvin Bentley Jr. of Downingtown, Pa., and Gail Walsh of Valley Cottage, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

The family may be contacted at 2517 Rockbridge Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Memorial Library, P.O. Box 6334, Macon 31208. Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Oscar Branch
LYONS - Services for Oscar Underwood Branch will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Jones-Stewart Funeral Home with burial in Wilkes Family Cemetery. Branch, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998. He was a retired farmer. He was a member and deacon of Connors Baptist Church in Cobbtown.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Branch; children, Roger Branch of Statesboro and Jim Branch of Lyons; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Candler County Hospital.

Elizabeth Bruskie
GRAY - Services for Elizabeth Bellamy Armstrong Bruskie will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Riverside Cemetery. Bruskie, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Gray. Born in Americus, she was the daughter of the late O.A. and Mary Tower Armstrong. She lived most of her life in Macon and was a graduate of Mount de Sales Academy.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Wyche of Swainsboro, Martha Preston of Blairsville, Mrs. Frank Miguel Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., J.B. Bruskie Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and John Bruskie of Macon; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1290 College St., Macon 31201, or Humane Services of Middle Georgia, P.O. Box 6560, Macon 31208-6560. Hart's Mortuary in Macon has charge of arrangements.
