Cornelia Herring

RALEIGH, N.C. - Services for Cornelia Pope Herring will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Jordan Funeral Home, Monticello, with burial in West View Cemetery, Monticello.

Herring, 80, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a Raleigh nursing home.

Born in Jasper County, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Phoebe Dance Pope.

The widow of James Phillip Herring, she was a member of West Ashville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Thomas Pope Herring of Raleigh and James William Herring of Wilmington, Del.; and nieces and nephews, Montye Kelly of Florida, Dr. Terry Pope of Macon, Dick Pope of Monticello, and Joe Pope, Hal Pope and William Pope, all of Columbus.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mary Herzog

BOLINGBROKE - Services for Mary Lou Herzog will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue.

Herzog, 61, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

She was the daughter of the late Jake and Ann Fox Herzog.

She was a fabrication technician, retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp.

Survivors include her children, Denise Crick and Debra Dillander, both of Louisville, Ky., and Suzanne Wright of Macon; sisters and brothers, Ann Fortner and Harold Herzog, both of Louisville, Jeanne Carvey, Daisey Jeffries, Paul Herzog and Jimmie Herzog, all of Shepardsville, Ky., and Billie Herzog of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and may be contacted at 10346 Estes Road.

Leila Knight

GORDON - Services for Leila Mae Knight will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Gordon Church of God in Christ with burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Toomsboro.

Knight, 72, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000.

She was retired from Central State Hospital after 17 years.

She was a member of Gordon Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Knight Sr.; children, Dorothy Shinholster of Macon, Jeanette Shinholster of Gordon, Louis Knight Jr. of Atlanta, Johnny Knight of Irwinton and J.W. Whipple of Toomsboro; sisters, Maudelle Weaks of Macon and Mary Brown of Milledgeville; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends until 7 p.m. today in Whipple & Allen Funeral Home, Toomsboro.

Joseph Mann Jr.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Services for Joseph Wheeler Mann Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele.

Mann, 74, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

Survivors include his friend, Joel Aviron of New York.

Dekle Funeral Home, Cordele, has charge of arrangements.

Alice Mathis

MONTEZUMA - Services for Alice Mae Walker Mathis will be at 3 p.m. today in New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mathis, 93, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000.

Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida Walker.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Esther Gouch of Montezuma; sister, Flossie Mae Shaw of Utica, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

West's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Billy Maye

Services for Billy G. Maye will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with burial in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Maye, 62, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a local hospital.

He was retired from United Insurance Co. of America.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include wife, Julia Maye; children, Kathryn Bassett and Billy G. Maye Jr., both of Fort Valley, and Sherri Codling of Orem, Utah; brothers and sister, James Maye of Macon, Calvin Maye and David Maye, both of Warner Robins, and Diane Sheppard of Sandersville; ands eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Crest Lawn Funeral Home and may be contacted at 5204 Greenwood Terrace.

Neita McCuller

NORFOLK, Va. - Services for Neita W. McCuller will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bethlehem Cemetery.

McCuller, 95, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000.

A homemaker, she was a salesperson, retired from Sears in Norfolk.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Virginia Chapter No. 22 and a Lady Shriner.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Nicole Winard; great-granddaughter, Rachel Winard of Seattle; and several nieces.

Paulk Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Winford Nichols Sr.

PEARSON - Services for Winford Clayton Nichols Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Zenith Baptist Church, Manor, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

He was retired from Tifton Aluminum after 17 years.

He was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Baxley.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Nichols; children, Sam James of Waycross, John Nichols and Lee Andrews, both of Atlanta, Winford Nichols of Geneva, Sophie James and Phoebe Parr, both of Pearson, and Marie Harris, Mary Layfield, Lynn Elliott, Grace Nichols and Carrie Nichols, all of Macon; brothers, Melvin Nichols of Dexter and Ernest Nichols of Omega; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in Music Funeral Home, Homerville.

The body will be in the church at 1 p.m.

Elaine Poole

FITZGERALD - Services for Elaine Ray Poole will be at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery.

Poole, 71, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Greer; daughter, Vanessa Tomberlin of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; sister, Betty Gould of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Paulk Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pauline Slaton

STOCKBRIDGE - Services for Pauline Elizabeth Slaton will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Slaton, 69, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

She was a nurse, retired from the Flint River Community Hospital.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers, Joyce Moring of Macon, Bonnie Doles of Fort Valley, Gene Slaton of Stone Mountain and Bryan Slaton of Moultrie.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Watson-Mathews Funeral Home, Montezuma, and may be contacted at 1370 Doles Road, Fort Valley 31030.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Oglethorpe 31068.

Mattie Smith

BARTOW - Services for Mattie Hall Smith will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in New Hope United Methodist Church with burial in Hall Family Cemetery.

Smith, 84, died Friday, May 5, 2000.

She was a homemaker and member of New Hope United Methodist Church and Bartow Community Club.

Survivors include her children, Mark Smith and Sidney Smith, both of Bartow, and Linda S. Gordy of North Augusta, S.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today Smith Funeral Home and will be at the residence on Woodrow Smith Road.

Olen Thompson

WARNER ROBINS - Services for Olen P. Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Central Baptist Church with burial in Magnolia Park Cemetery.

Thompson, 70, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

He was retired from Robins Air Force Base.

Survivors include his wife, Johniece Thompson; children, Randy Thompson of Warner Robins and Terry Thompson of Bonaire; sister and brothers, Jewell Stapleton of Lumber City, and Edward Thompson and James Thompson, both of Warner Robins; and four grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, Warner Robins.

Fannie Turner

Services for Fannie T. Turner will be at 1 p.m. today in Macon Memorial Park.

Turner, 88, died Saturday, May 6, 2000. She was a homemaker and member of Second Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, George Turner and Steve Turner of Macon; sister, Ruby Clark of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Family will be at 4360 Knight Road and 3789 Partridge Drive.
