Mr. James Herman Nunis, Jr, 71 of Midway Road, Douglasville passed away on October 3, 2001 at Brian Center Nursing Home. He was born on October 17, 1929 the son of the late James Herman Nunis, Sr and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Harper Nunis. He was a member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church and retired from the Douglas County Road Department on October 18, 1991. . He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW of Douglasville and the American Legion Post 145 of Douglasville. He was a member of the Glendale Mills Baseball Club of Douglas County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Nunis. He is survived by his wife, Anne Fay Nunis of Douglasville; son and daughter in law, David and Alicia Nunis of Douglasville; sister, Frances Nunis Bowman of Douglasville; brother and sister in law, William "Bill" and Mary Nunis of Temple; of Douglasville; uncle, Lovie Nunis of Douglasville; 1 granddaughter; nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mr. James Herman Nunis, Jr. of Douglasville will be conducted on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny White officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 AM until 9:00 PM. He was born on December 13, 1925 in Heard County the son of the late Wilson Hardy and the late Mrs. Mollie Harcrow Hardy. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed for Flint Ink. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and POW of World War II. He is survived by his wife 56 years, Mrs. Virginia Green Hardy of Douglasville; daughter, Janice McKerley of Ponce Inlet, FL; son, Donny Hardy of Flowery Branch; 3 sisters, Hilda Carr of Lithia Springs, Mary Hardy of Douglasville, and Verna Patterson of Newnan; 5 grandchildren; 1 great- grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, October 7, 2001 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Marion Beavers and Rev. Gary Green officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Dr. Robert Whitmire. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Mr. William Howard Johnson, age 79, of Daniel Road, Villa Rica, GA. passed away, Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica following an extended illness. He was born May 30, 1922, in Sweetwater Tennessee the son of the late Mr. Fred Johnson and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired truck drive with Oak Ridge National Laboratories for over 43 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Johnson. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Miller of Athens, Tennessee; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Kim Johnson of Villa Rica; one sister and brother-in-law, Dellie and David Stout of Ohio; 2 brothers, Clarence Johnson and John C. Johnson both of Ohio; 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, December 8, 2001 at 1 PM from the Chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater with Rev. Ranci Fetherolf officiating. Interment will follow in the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater Friday from 6PM until 9PM. He was born November 15, 1928 in Carroll County, Georgia the son of the late John W. Martin and the late Mrs. Minnie Hembree Martin. He was a member of Fullerville Baptist Church and was a carpenter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Billy Homer Martin. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Criswell Martin of villa Rica; son, Johnny William Martin of villa Rica; 4 sisters, Mattie Fields, Christian Smith, Iula Dobbs, and Lynell Gibson all of Villa Rica; several nieces and nephews. She was born on November 13, 1941 in Atlanta, GA the daughter of the late Clinton Glisson and Mrs. Gertrude Bennett Glisson. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville and worked in the Accounting Department at Tile Connection. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, DonnaVie Robertson and brother, Clinton "Red" Glisson Jr. She is survived by her husband, Freddie Cochran of Villa Rica; 3 daughters and son-in-law, Marlene Cochran of Douglasville, Alene and Christopher Morrison of Douglasville and DonnaVie Noblitt; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmie and Im Glisson of Anchorage, AK and Winfield and Barbara Glisson of Cape Coral, FL; 5 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is survived by two brothers, Brian Collins, Jr., and Christian Ray Collins both of Douglasville; maternal grandparents, Ray and Joanne Ward of Salem, OH, and Martha Ward of New Waterford, OH; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Ann Collins of Williamsburg, VA.; great grandparents, Sally Hosey of Williamsburg, VA, Janice Ward of Highgate Springs, VT and Agnes Ward of Jay, NY; sever aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Cecil "Perk" Glen Perkey, 67, of Walker Road, Villa Rica passed away on Friday, July 26, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Atlanta following an extended illness. He was born on September 24, 1934 in Hamblen County, TN the son of the late William Fred Perkey and the late Mrs. Katy Ruth Long Perkey. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Villa Rica and was a diesel mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army for over 10 years. He was a busdriver for several different gospel music groups and he helped with the maintenance of the gospel buses. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Fannie Ruth Perkey and his brothers, Charlie William Perkey and Eugene Perkey. He is survived by his wife, Vennia “Val” Novella Archer Perkey of Villa Rica; 3 daughters and sons in law, Frances and Claude Ellis of Powder Springs, Joyce and Jim Lanier of Buford, and Wilma and Jimmy Dangar of Douglasville; son and daughter in law, Tony and Tessia Perkey of Douglasville; 6 grandchildren; and brother in law, Ed Way of Rogersville, TN. Mr. Charles Otis Taff, 71, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at his residence. He was born on September 12, 1930 in Phenix City the son of the late Otis W. and Katie Sellers Taff. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over fifty years and served on various boards and committees. He was a member of Friendship Sunday School Class and coached the church softball and volleyball teams for many years. As a child and teenager Charles worked at C.M. Taff Grocery with his grandfather and father. After the death of his grandfather the store became Taff Grocery, owned by Otis Taff. In 1969, Taff Thriftown was built and Charles worked there with his father until his father’s death and then the store became Charles'. He operated it until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Taff is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Jones Taff of Phenix City, AL; daughters and sons in law, Amy and Ken Duncan of Villa Rica and Jan and Lamar Horne of Phenix City, AL; son and daughter in law, Barry Charles and Virginia Taff of Phenix City; 7 grandchildren, Wesley Charles Taff of Phenix City, Brian Lamar Horne of Phenix City, Katie Taff of Phenix City, Brett Thomas Horne of Phenix City, Haleigh Taff Duncan of Villa Rica, Forrest Wynn Duncan of Villa Rica and Kara Tate Duncan of Villa Rica; nieces and nephews.
