Judith Ann Phillips Yarber

Judith Ann Phillips Yarber, 63, of Clyde St., Loudon, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Athens Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Ray Yarber; parents, Nathan and Edith Edmons Phillips; brother, Wayne Phillips; grandchildren, Joseph and Gregory Wayne Yarber.
Survivors include: children, Greg (Shirley) Yarber of Eatonton, Chris (Lisa) Yarber of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mitchell Yarber of Loudon; five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sheila Smith, Jane Hillard, Charolotte Chapman; brother, George Nathan Phillips; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. the following Saturday at North Sweetwater Baptist Church. Loudon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

G. Chris Lee

Gaines Chris Lee,29, of Hoboken, died Tuesday morning, June 29, in Long County as a result of injuries sustained in a automobile accident. A native of Ware County, he was a lifelong resident of Brantley County. He was a graduate of the Brantley County School System. He was employed with Raleigh Distributors of Blackshear and attended the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Overstreet Hunting Club in Brantley County. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, from the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. John Pope officiating. Interment followed in the High Bluff Cemetery. Pallbearers were Perry Young, Tony Wilson, Tracy Harris, Barney Harris, Jamie Tucker and Bryan Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers were all employees of Raleigh Distributors and Rick Sikes. Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.

Oliver Pearson

Oliver Pearson,91, of Nahunta, died Monday night, March 22, at Satilla Regional Medical center in Waycross, following an extended illness.

A native of a section of Wayne County that is now Brantley County, he was a son of the late William Roe Pearson and Mattie Strickland Pearson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Lee Prescott in January 1998.

He was retired as a Supervisor for Seaboard Coastline Railroad in Tampa, Florida and was an honorary member of the Brantley County Lions Club.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lant and Shirley Pearson, Nahunta; a granddaughter, Olivia Jennings, St. Simons Island; a grandson, Emory Lant Pearson, St. Marys; a great-grandchild, Taylor Jennings, St. Simons Island, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, from the Nahunta First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Carson and the Rev. R.C. Mathis officiating.

Interment followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Ware County, near Waycross.

Casketbearers were Gene Crews, Johnnie Crews, Dan Moody, Jackie Tumlin, Doyle Justice and Ronnie Crews.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.

Richard C. Ogle

Richard C. Ogle,81, of Route 2, Nahunta, died Saturday morning, March 27, at the Sunrise Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brunswick, following an extended illness.

A native of Massac County, Illinois, he was a son of the late Calvin R. Ogle and Ella Martha Lynn Ogle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rego Ogle and a sister, Anna Frances Jablonsky.

He was a maintenance worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Toledo, Ohio and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart medal.

He was a member of the Brantley County Lions Club, a member of the DAV in Ohio and was also a member of the East Toledo Bowling Club League.

Survivors include his sister, Lillian O. Wainright, Nahunta and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 29, from the chapel of Chambless Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Rowell and the Rev. David J. Hughes officiating.

Interment followed in the Twin Rivers Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Casketbearers were Carroll Waters, Brad Simpson, Jack Hughes, Jason Hughes, Terry Ferguson and Paul Tegtmeier.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.

TaCresha L. Mercier

TaCresha Primrose Lowe Mercier, 27, of Hortense, died Saturday, March 27, at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

She was a native of Brunswick and had lived there most of her life. She was a 1989 graduate of Brunswick High School. She had worked at Sonny's Barbeque for two years and had been employed with Dressner's on St. Simons Island for the past year. She was a member of the Tidalwave Cloggers. TaCresha was a loving person.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Mercier, Brunswick; three daughters, Tequiero Sanchez, Ieysa Sanchez and AnnaLyssa Sanchez, Hortense; a son Larry Sanchez Jr., Orange County, California; her mother, Denise Howard, Hortense; her step-father, David Howard, Hortense; her father, Lucky Lowe, Brunswick; step-mother, Helen Lowe, Brunswick; a brother, Randy Joiner, Hortense; a step-sister, Jerelyn Lowe, Brunswick; a step-brother, Roger Howard, Brunswick; maternal grandparents, David and Shirley Drake, Brunswick; maternal grandfather, Robert Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla.; paternal grandfather, James Walter "Buster" Lowe Sr., Brunswick; maternal great-grandmother, Bessie Middleton King, Brunswick; two aunts, Diane Fisher, Hortense and Cathy Drake, Cornwall on Hudson, New York; two uncles, Tommy Johnson and Jackie Johnson, Jacksonville and several cousins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, from the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick with Brother Randy Lamb officiating.

Interment followed in the Chapel Park Cemetery in Glynn County.

Active pallbearers are David Taylor, Shawn Warner, Allen Carter, Anthony Wilson, Ronald Bagley, Timothy Ryals, Matt Burch and Marral O'Steen.

Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Carter, Shain Atkinson and Dennis Kinlaw.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick is in charge of arrangements.

Grace M. Bullard

Grace M. Bullard,77, of Jesup, died Monday, March 29, in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

A native of Appling County, she had lived in Wayne County for the past fifteen years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Unity Church of God. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church in Waycross.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Melvin Gill, Savannah, Joanne and Van Joyner, Jesup and Connie Kurtz Fletcher and Phil Fletcher, Waycross; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Dale Halligan, Nahunta, Ronnie and Lucita Bullard, Anaheim, California and Larry and Ranee Bullard, Evans; a sister and brother-in-law, Mittie and Andy Anderson, Jesup; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, from the Bethel United Methodist Church in Appling County with the Rev. George Moxley, the Rev. Hulett Smith and Pastor Larry Bullard officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Paul S. Bullard, Timmy Joyner, Ronald Coleman, Scott Bullard, Todd Halligan and Kevin Kurtz.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and the employees of Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.

Talmadge Dixon

Talmadge Dixon,63, of Morrow, died Monday, March 29, at his residence, following an extended illness.

A native of Brantley County, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Dixon and his parents, the Rev. Eddie J. and Leona White Dixon.

He was veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and had served in Okinawa. He was previously employed as a manager for Friedman's Jewelers in Altanta and was a self-employed realtor and owned and operated Dixon's General Store.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessica Castrodale, Concord, N.C. and Shelly Moran, Sandy Springs; a son, Patrick Dixon, Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Ann Bell, Hilliard, Fla. and Blanche Riggins, Nahunta; seven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, from the chapel of Pope Dickson and Sons, Morrow Chapel, with the Rev. G. D. Sharpe officiating.

Interment followed in the Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.

Casketbearers were Jimmy Anderson, Edward Brand, Reid Castrodale, Andrew Castrodale and Tommy Moran.

Pope Dickson and Sons Funeral Home, Morrow Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred L. Hickox

Mildred Lee Hickox,70, of Waycross, died Saturday, April 3, at her residence after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and the daughter of Elder Frank T. Lee and the late Martha Dixon Lee.

Survivors include her husband, W. T. Hickox Sr., Waycross; four sons and three daughters-in-law, W. T. Jr. and Sherri Hickox, Carley and Rosa Hickox, Glynn F. Hickox and Terry C. and Tammey Hickox, Waycross; her father and step-mother, Elder Frank and Elsie Lee, Hoboken; two sisters, Ruth Wainright, Nahunta and Annie Sue Dubberly, Waycross; five brothers, Thomas Lee, Eddie Lee and Billy Lee, Waycross, Johnny Lee and Elder Herman Lee, Hoboken; nine grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, from the High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Herman Lee officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were David Lee, Bruce Wainright, Derek Lee, Richard Lee, Todd Hayes, Andy Hickox, Malcolm Justice and Marty Lee.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Satilla Southeast Cancer Unit, 1906 Tebeau Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501.

Shepard Funeral Home of Folkston, assisted by Music Funeral Home of Waycross, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert O. Thornton

Robert Owen Thornton, 46, of Route 2, Waynesville, died Sunday morning, April 4, at his residence, following an extended illness.

A native of Ware County, he was preceded in death by his father, Redick A. Thornton Jr. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Gardi. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Brantley County Chapter of the D.A.V., where he served as treasurer.

Survivors include his wife, Belinda Stevens Thornton, Waynesville; three daughters, Julie Thornton, Crystal Thornton and Leah Thornton, Waynesville; his mother and stepfather, Shirleen and Rufus Thornton, Waynesville; three sisters, Sinda Gonzales, Denver, Colorado, Susan Corwin, Brunswick and Rose Drury, Hortense; three brothers, Redick A. Thornton III, Blackshear, Joey Thornton, Hortense and Allen Thornton, Waynesville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, from the Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Gardi with the Rev. Carroll E. Landreth Jr., the Rev. Ion Johns and the Rev. David Lankford officiating.

Interment followed in the Mount Olive Cemetery near Waynesville.

Casketbearers were Charles Comuzie, Lester Wilson, Jack McQuaig, J. H. Wilson, Allen Thornton and Joey Thornton.

Hilda T. Moody

Hilda Thornton Moody,67, of Hortense, passed away late Sunday evening, April 4, at her residence, following a brief illness.

A native of Ware County, she had lived most of her life in Pierce and Brantley Counties. She was a member of the Satilla Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was a homemaker.

She was a daughter of the late Gus and Vernon Griffin Thornton.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll Moody, Hortense; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Johnny Wooten, Patterson; a son, Mike Wasdin, Waynesville; a brother, Herbert Thornton, Offerman; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ervin Collins, Blackshear; four grandchildren, Julie Stanfield, John Wooten, Kelly Wooten and Korey Murray; three great-grandchildren, Emily and Ellen Stanfield and Bryce Jarrard and several other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 (today), from the Satilla Baptist Church in Hortense with the Rev. John Walker and the Rev. E. C. Crews officiating.

Interment followed in the Satilla Cemetery in Brantley County.

Contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.
