Mr. George Meyer Sr.

Retired truck driver

Mr. George H.H. Meyer Sr., 67, of 3020 Abelia Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Poteet Funeral Home, Peach Orchard Road, with the Rev. Glenn Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mr. Meyer, a native of Bremerhaven, West Germany, had lived in Augusta for about 30 years. He had retired from Howard Lumber Co. as a truck driver and yard foreman. He was an Army veteran and a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Meyer; two sons, George H.H. Meyer Jr., Mims, Fla., and Bobby Meyer, Augusta; a daughter, Darlene Laxer, Evans; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mack Angelisanti, Eric Angelisanti, Leo Bourassa, Ed Oetjen, Randy Oetjen and John Collins.

Friends may call at the residence or at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bennie Moses

Retired truck driver

WARRENTON, Ga. -- Mr. Bennie Moses, 95, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Providence Health Care.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson's Mortuary with the Rev. Alexander Ingram officiating.

Mr. Moses, a native of Warrenton, had retired as a truck driver. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Myrick, College Park; and three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. Winifred North

Homemaker

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Winifred Peavy North, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Syl-view Health Care Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Doubleheads Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Scarborough and Wayne Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. North, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker and a member of Doubleheads Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert M. North Jr., Rincon; a daughter, Gloria N. Lariscy, Sylvania; a brother, William Elliott Peavy, Sylvania; five sisters, Lois Coney, Mildred Sims and Frances Robbins, all of Savannah, Elise Stafford, Shawnee, and Bernice Mobley, Lakeland, Fla.; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Doubleheads Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Doubleheads Baptist Church c/o George Howard, 950 Captola Road, Sylvania, GA 30467.

Mr. John Shead

Owens Corning Fiberglas Co. retiree

AIKEN -- Mr. John Virgil Shead, 73, of 1511 Wire Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shellhouse Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Archer and William Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Shead, a native of Franklin County, Ga., had lived in Aiken since 1958. He had retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas Co. and was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Patrick Shead; two sons, Hoyt Shead, Aiken, and Lewis Virgil Shead, Ridge Spring; a daughter, Katherine Matthews, Aiken; two sisters, Myrtie Dove, Carlton, Ga., and Anne Haggerty, Seneca; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jake Waters, Donnie Shumpert, Patton Butts, Jimmy Kelly, Chad Doolittle, Mike Percival, Jessie Rumley and William Doolittle.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Floy Sherrer

Homemaker

Mrs. Floy C. Sherrer, 86, of 693 Crestlyn Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arthur Bowick Inc. Funeral Home, Monroe, Ga., with the Rev. Don Hardison officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Memorial Gardens, Monroe.

Mrs. Sherrer, a native of Walton County, Ga., was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Gary Sherrer, Denver; a daughter, Sandra McCay, Augusta; a brother, Ralph Carter, Monroe; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Walker

WADLEY, Ga. -- Mr. Robert Walker, 79, of 258 Phillips St., died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brinson Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Walker, a native of Wadley, was a former employee of the Old Box Mill Factory. He was a member of Brinson Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Christopher C. Walker, Marietta; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Mrs. Farris Wall

Thomson Co. retiree

THOMSON -- Mrs. Farris W. Wall, 78, of 217 Gordon St., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Providence Nursing Home, Warrenton.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Brian Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wall, a native of McDuffie County, had retired from Thomson Co. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary of the McDuffie County Overseas Veterans Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Morecraft, Blue Ridge, and Ferrell Ann Vinson, Thomson; a brother, Jim Whitaker, Columbus; and nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bohler, Garry Bohler, Donald Shoemaker, Darell Quinn, Jimmy Bohler and James Vinson.

Friends may call at the residence of Ferrell Ann Vinson, 1231 Union Church Road.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Irma White

Retired textile worker

AIKEN -- Mrs. Irma R. White, 76, of 2024 Joyner Pond Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Pines Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Hayes and Ken Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley.

Mrs. White, a native of Augusta, had lived in Aiken most of her life. She had retired from Graniteville Co. as a textile worker and was a member of Highland Pines Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Henry G. White; a son, Henry G. ``Hank'' White III, Aiken; a daughter, Judy D. Cota, Aiken; a brother, Cecil Raborn, Aiken; two sisters, Irene Green and Barbara Young, both of Aiken; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Rowe, Jerry Barsh, Allan Young, Julian Young, Steve Woodward and Terry Woodward.

Friends may call at the residence of Judy D. Cota, 35 Vanderbilt Drive.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at George Funeral Home, Park Avenue.

Dr. Clyde Whitworth

Retired physician

Dr. Clyde W. ``Whit'' Whitworth, 85, of 4275 Owens Road, Evans, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at his residence.

Entombment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, with the Rev. Mark Sargent officiating.

Dr. Whitworth, a native of Clarksville, had lived in Evans for four years. He was a graduate of Emory University and Emory University Medical School, and had retired as an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist after more than 50 years of private practice. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Southeast Surgical Congress and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served with the 91st Evacuation Hospital. He received five battle stars and the bronze star, and retired with the rank of major. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Charles W. Whitworth, Evans; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506; or Wesley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 248, Evans, GA 30809.

Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Canary Barton

Retired cook

Mrs. Canary Rouse Barton, of 3639 Crawfordville Drive, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Aiken County, with the Rev. Joseph H. Cook Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barton, a native of Aiken County, was a retired cook with the state of South Carolina school system. She had been an employee at Greendale Elementary School and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jessie Harrison Jr., Beech Island, and Bernard Barton, Bridgeville, Del.; two daughters, Elouise B. McDaniel, Augusta, and Rubenia Barton, Bridgeville; one brother, Edward Rouse, New Ellenton; eight sisters, Janie Corbitt, Aiken County, Eula Harrison, Philadelphia, Esterine Smith and Bertha Jackson, both of Beech Island, and Willie Mae Odom, Annie Ruth Odom, Mildred Rouse and Katie Rouse, all of New Ellenton; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.
