Mr. Wayne Rushton

Burger King employee

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mr. Wayne Rushton, 56, of 107 S. Jennings St., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Newberry Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dean's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Rushton, a native of Saluda County, was an employee of Burger King and had worked at Hardees and Milliken. He was a member of Dean's Chapel Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Cobbler Rushton; three brothers, Clem Rushton, Ninety Six, and Chesley Rushton and Jimmy Rushton, both of Saluda; and one sister, Grace Goodman, Greenwood.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ramey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Maude Tanksley

Homemaker

Mrs. Maude Tanksley, 99, of Route 1, Appling, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Elijah Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Tanksley, a native of Lincoln County, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Robbins.

Pallbearers will be friends.

Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martha Thompson

Homemaker

WARRENTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Martha G. ``Bett Pitts'' Thompson, 93, of Providence Health Care, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lithonia Baptist Church, Camak, with the Rev. William Evans Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Future Progress Society Cemetery, Warren County.

Mrs. Thompson, a native of Warren County, was a member of Lithonia Baptist Church, where she was a member of the missionary society and the senior choir.

Survivors include one son-in-law, Audie Battle.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Friends may call at the residence of Mary Williams, 2652 Atlanta Highway, Norwood, Ga.

The family will receive friends until noon Saturday at Dawson's Mortuary.

Mrs. Ethel Walters

Homemaker

MACON -- Mrs. Ethel W. Walters, 85, of 4931 E. Rivoli Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with the Revs. Creede Hinshaw and Janet Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Walters, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan Cole, Naperville, Ill., Shirley Walters, Statesboro, and Janet Beck, Macon; one brother, John B. Wilkerson Sr., Macon; two sisters, Henry J. Harvard, Macon, and N.W. Bowick, Gainesville, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.

Hart's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph Samaroo

Retiree

Mr. Joseph Osram Samaroo, 62, of Martinez, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, with the Rev. Gene Norris officiating.

Mr. Samaroo, a native of Guyana, had retired and was a Presbyterian.

The family said he was a devoted father and husband.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette Samaroo; five sons, Sterling Samaroo, Mark Samaroo and Tracy Samaroo, all of Martinez, Erol Samaroo, New Jersey, and Joel Samaroo, Baltimore; three daughters, Karen Samaroo, Martinez, Carol Samaroo, New Jersey, and Judy Samaroo, Arizona; eight sisters, Hilda Ishmael and Doris Mill, both of Canada, Helen Jagnandan, Augusta, Elieen Gobin, Virginia, Jean McClain, Guyana, Sheila Beharry, New York, Dora Zephyr, Los Angeles, and Ramona Ahmed, Pakistan; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Thomas L. King Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kathleen Williams

Glenn Hills High School teacher

Mrs. Kathleen Sutherland Williams, 49, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at the National Healthcare Center of North Augusta.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Universalist Church with the Rev. Dan King officiating.

Mrs. Williams, a native of California, had lived most of her life in Augusta and was a mathematics teacher at Glenn Hills High School, where she founded the Ecology Club.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Williams; one son, John-Paul Williams; her father, James Sutherland; her mother, Kathleen Ohanneson; one brother, Gregory Sutherland; and one sister, Madhuri Land.

Memorials may be made to Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1100 Circle 75 Parkway, Suite 630, Atlanta, GA 30339.

Mr. Oliver Woods

Farmer

ALLENDALE, S.C. -- Mr. Oliver Woods, 44, of 421 Mill St., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Medical University, Charleston.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Woods, a native of Allendale County, was a farmer and a Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Deselena Grant Woods; one daughter, Sandra Mole, Allendale; one brother, Roosevelt Williams, Allendale; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.

Cave Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jack Bailey

Farmer

VIDETTE, Ga. -- Mr. Jack Bailey, 76, of 1171 Bailey Road, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Maranatha Tabernacle, Waynesboro, with the Revs. Paul Vaught and Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Rose Dhu Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey, a native of Burke County, was a farmer and had been employed by Guggenheim Foundation, Cainhoy Plantation, as a dog trainer and hunting guide. He was founder and had been president of the Vidette Hunting Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Maranatha Tabernacle.

Survivors include his wife, Lorinne Blount Bailey; one son, William Steven Bailey, Vidette; two daughters, Barbara B. Mobley and Connie B. Burgamy, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Jesse Bailey and Larry Bailey, both of Vidette; two sisters, Anne Jordan, Vidalia, and Sue Parker, Augusta; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Nichols, Johnny Shivers, Gary Johnson, Henry Daniel, Bill DeLaigle, Clint Bailey, Mack Bailey, Kenny Leland and Jake Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Maranatha Tabernacle.

Mr. Theo Carroll

Retired security officer

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Theo Thurman Carroll, 70, died Thursday, Jan. 15, at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville, with the Rev. Claude Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Wrightsville.

Mr. Carroll, a native of Johnson County, had retired as a security officer and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Williams, Danville; one brother, Elmer Carroll, Wrightsville; five sisters, Virginia Brantley, Hazel Rachels and Irene Kitchens, all of Wrightsville, Mary Foskey, Swainsboro, and Rosa Lee Hoover, Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Rachels, Joey Ashcraft, Ashley Williams, Scott Williams, Lewie Fortner and Lee Krutz.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Ford

Retired seamstress

Mrs. Mary Alice May Ford, 78, of 1425 Walton Way, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with the Revs. Bill Rice and Paul Hall officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Pine Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Washington County, Ga.

Mrs. Ford, a native of Glascock County, Ga., was a retired seamstress and a member of Southgate Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James A. Ford; two sons, Robert G. May, Jeffersonville, Ga., and James E. May, Evans; two daughters, Joyce May Montgomery, Hephzibah, and Janice May Brigham, Augusta; three stepdaughters, Jeanette Broulliard, Patsy Quales and Betty Hillis, all of Augusta; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Hall, Vince Goodwin, Martin Johnson, Randy Quales, Jay May and Keith May.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
