Rev. Alexander McWhite

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Rev. Alexander McWhite of 1511 N. Irby St. Extension died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Florence County Hospital.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. C.J. Johnson and Dr. W.P. Diggs officiating. Burial will be in Florence National Cemetery.

The Rev. McWhite, a native of Florence County, was a Baptist minister and former pastor of Flat Creek Baptist Church, Darlington County. He was a former teacher at Warren Road Elementary School, Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa D. McWhite; a daughter, Fran McWhite, Columbia; and sisters and brothers.

Friends may call at Ideal Funeral Parlor.

Peoples Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of local arrangements.

Miss Debra Bentley

THOMSON -- Miss Debra Kay Bentley, 34, of 4446 Washington Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Salem Baptist Church, Woodlawn Community, with the Revs. Al Wright and Charles Mason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miss Bentley, a native of Wilkes County, had lived in Thomson for several years. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Elizabeth Palmer and Mike Palmer, Thomson; her stepmother, Lois Bentley, Lincolnton; a brother, Wayne Bentley, Thomson; and two sisters, Cathy Chastain, Lincolnton, and Dawn Levine, Smyrna.

Pallbearers will be Alex Ferguson, Raymond Timmerman, Chuck Mahaffey, Brad Ferguson, Terrell Holloway and Michael Ferguson.

Friends may call at the residence or Curtis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Leonora Bugg

Homemaker

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Leonora ``Nonie'' Best Bugg, 91, of 2894 Metasville Road, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marvin Coffee, Elton Lawson and Joel W. Embry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bugg, a native of Augusta, had lived in Lincolnton for 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles T. Bugg Jr., Marshall Colvin, Bruce Copelan, Charles Moody, Mike Polatty and Emory Ware.

Memorials may be made to Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Mary W. Probst, 3585 Prater Road, Lincolnton, GA 30817.

Mr. Otis Carter

Retiree

DEARING -- Mr. Otis B. Carter, 64, of 5998 Bowden Ponds Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at Macedonia United Methodist Church, Camak, with the Rev. Jim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Carter, a native of Colquitt, had lived in Dearing since 1988. He had retired from Mack Financial Corp. after 25 years of service. He was an Army veteran and a Baptist.

His family said he loved his family deeply and will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann ``Peggy'' Carter; a daughter, Kelli Mooney, Warrenton; two brothers, Jerry Carter and Danny Carter, both of Colquitt; three sisters, Evon Phillips, Albany, Shawlyn Tabb, Tallahassee, Fla., and Mabel Richardson, Colquitt; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Reese, Keith Grisco, Ben Mooney, Charles Raley, Glenn Mooney and Stan Watkins.

Memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Friends may call at the residence or Curtis Funeral Home, Thomson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jessie Creighton

Retired tax auditor

Mrs. Jessie Mae Creighton, 96, of Martinez, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Westwood Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Atlanta, with the Revs. Tom VanLanington and David Ogletree officiating.

Mrs. Creighton, a native of Conyers, Ga., was a longtime Atlanta resident and had lived in the Augusta area since 1995. She retired from the Georgia Revenue Department in 1969 as a tax auditor. She was a member of First Christian Church, Atlanta.

Survivors include a son, Donald G. Creighton, Clinton, S.C.; a daughter, June G. Boatman, Martinez; and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 4532 LaVista Road, Tucker, GA 30084.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road.

Mr. James Deal

Retired store manager

VIDALIA, Ga. -- Mr. James Keller Deal, 74, of 807 Center Place, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Meadows Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Deal, a native of Stilson, had lived in the Vidalia area for 28 years. He was a 1952 graduate of the University of Georgia and had retired from Piggly Wiggly Southern as a division manager. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a former member of the administrative board and the Wesley Glen Group.

Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Deal; a son, James Ronald Deal, Valdosta; two daughters, Mary Lyn Deal, Vidalia, and Donna Ruth Deal, Beech Island; two sisters, Elsie Louise Pevey, Beaufort, S.C., and Albert D. Rhoden, Woodlands, Texas; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Murchison Funeral Home.

Mr. J.B. DeLoach Jr.

Dairy farmer

EATONTON, Ga. -- Mr. J.B. DeLoach Jr., 81, of 160 DeJarnette Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Putnam General Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Eatonton Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Ford G'Segner and C. Gregory DeLoach officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mr. DeLoach, a native of Putnam County, owned and operated a dairy farm. He was a graduate of Eatonton High School and a member of Eatonton Masonic Lodge Rising Star No. 4.

Survivors include his wife, Mayme DeLoach, Rockville Community; a son, Joe DeLoach III, Eatonton; a daughter, Susie DeLoach G'Segner, Rockville Community; two sisters, Ruby Mae Dearman, Rockville Community, and Gladys Lenox, Douglasville; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Scott DeLoach, David DeLoach, Jason Winslette, Joey Shadix, Ronald Lenox and Derek Alderman.

McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gladys Dyches

Retired secretary

HILDA, S.C. -- Mrs. Gladys Corbett Carlson Dyches, 96, of Chavis Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Bamberg County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Double Pond Baptist Church, Blackville, with the Revs. Roy Flynn and Richard McDuffie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Dyches, a native of Valdosta, Ga., had retired from the Florida Department of Public Health as a secretary. She was a member of Double Pond Baptist Church.

Her family said she first was married to the late George A. Carlson and was the widow of Thomas M. Dyches.

Survivors include two daughters, June C. Pearson, Nashville, Tenn., and Ferese C. Summerhill, Gainesville, Fla.; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Folk Funeral Home, Williston.

Mr. Richard Flynt

Retired mail carrier

SHARON, Ga. -- Mr. Richard Hampton Flynt, 87, of 162 Raytown Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Thomson Manor, Thomson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sharon Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Nicholas officiating.

Mr. Flynt, a native of Taliaferro County, had retired as a mail carrier and was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of American Legion, Crawfordville Masonic Lodge and Raytown Methodist Church, and was a Royal Arch Mason, a Mason Emeritus and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Harris Flynt; two daughters, Elinor Flynt Ruark, Bostwick, and Ann Flynt Hopkins, Monroe; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Pat Darden, Perry Pittman, Sam Greene, Gus Mayo, Jessie Brown and Les Sales.

Ms. Odessa Henderson

SPARTA, Ga. -- Ms. Odessa J. Henderson, 60, of 481 Dixie St., died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Hancock Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Lott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Henderson, a native of Hancock County, had retired as a housekeeper. She was a member of New Beulah Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Charleston, Sparta; a brother, Edward Jackson, Macon; two sisters, Ginnie Bonner and Ann Lott, both of Macon; and one grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence or at the residence of Betty Charleston.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Ingram's Funeral Home.
