Mr. Cloddie Gardner

Retired motorman

AIKEN -- Mr. Cloddie J. Gardner, 75, of 305 Whispering Pine Terrace, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Slaughter officiating. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Park.

Mr. Gardner, a native of Napoleonville, La., was an Army veteran of World War II. He had retired as a motorman from the New York Transit Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie Mae Tyler Gardner; and a sister, Ollie Brennan, New Orleans.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 111 Pendleton St., Aiken, SC 29801.

Friends may call at the residence or beginning at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Gatson

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary Gatson, 51, of 1540 Statesboro Highway, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Screven County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Horse Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brenda I. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gatson, a native of Screven County, was a member of Horse Creek United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and United Methodist Women and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Gatson, Twin City; two brothers, John Reed Jr. and Gary Daughtry, both of Sylvania; four sisters, Bertha Rhodes, Dorothy Clark, Clara Flowers and Petronia Williams, all of Sylvania; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Weldon Parker, James Johnson, James Hudson, Willie Lockhart, Robert Parker and Dewayne Hudson.

Sylvania Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walter Grover Sr.

Graniteville Co. retiree

GRANITEVILLE -- Mr. Walter Grover Sr., 71, of 296 Rennie St., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Vencor Hospital, Atlanta.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Graniteville Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Grover officiating.

Mr. Grover, a native of Aiken County, was retired from Graniteville Co., Hickman Division, and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Lowe Grover; three sons, Walter Grover Jr., Paul Robert Grover and Roy Grover, all of Graniteville; one daughter, Annie Gunter, Graniteville; one brother, Paul Grover, Aiken; two sisters, Maggie Pilot, Aiken, and Daisy Lowe, Augusta; and 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Helget, Perry Abnett, Jeff Lowe, Billy Ricks, Jay Willis and Marion Kneece.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Napier Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Hampton

Homemaker

HARLEM -- Mrs. Margaret Smalley Hampton, 77, of 975 Robert Moore Road, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hampton, a native of Columbia County, was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and was a member of the spiritual choir.

Survivors include her husband, Willie C. ``Jabo'' Hampton; one daughter, Inell S. Germany, Harlem; two stepsons, Johnny Hampton and James Hampton, both of Harlem; one sister, Josie Bell Hunt, Harlem; one stepsister, Della West, Augusta; and 12 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and deacons of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Moore's Funeral Home and after the burial at the church.

Mrs. Frances Hatcher

Retired secretary

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Frances Scott Hatcher, 76, of 404 Victory Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Rowland and Al Wright officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Hatcher, a native of Burke County, was a retired secretary and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Evans-Cobb Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one son, B.J. Hatcher, Smyrna; one daughter, Richerdean H. Martin, Waynesboro; two brothers, Bob Scott, Waynesboro, and John Cates Scott, Wrightsville; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 853 Liberty St., Waynesboro, GA 30830.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at DeLoach Funeral Home.

Mr. Robert Herrington

Construction worker

Mr. Robert Lee Herrington, 53, of 2716 Glenn Hills Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Wells officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Mr. Herrington, a native of Augusta, was a construction worker.

Survivors include one son, Parrish Herrington, Chicago; one daughter, Nana Herrington, Chicago; three brothers, Freddie Herrington, Sammy Herrington and Melvin Herrington, all of Augusta; and three sisters, Mary Gilliam, Cynthia Dunbar and Janet Martin, all of Augusta.

Friends may call at the residence or the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rosada Hill

Factory worker

Mrs. Rosada Tolbert Hill, of 2102 Vail Drive, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Moses Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grady Wicker Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Hill, a native of Augusta, was a factory worker and a member of Moses Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Willy Hill Jr., New York; a daughter, Ruby E. Sutherland, Augusta; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home.

Mr. Charles Holloway

Retired radiologist

Mr. Charles Lee Holloway, 79, of 106 E. Watkins St., died Feb. 4, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Lewis P. Bohler Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Holloway, a native of Augusta, was retired as a radiologist from Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center and was an Army veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Mae Holloway; two sons, Mr. Charles Holloway Jr., Mitchellville, Md., Gerald Holloway, Augusta; three daughters, Joyce M. Holloway and Veronica Holloway, both of Augusta, and Roberta Taylor, Tallahassee, Fla.; one stepson, Penrose Hollins, Wilmington, Del.; one brother, Willie Albert Jackson, Pahokee, Fla.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the residence.

Mr. Henry Hoover

E.I. DuPont retiree

GRANITEVILLE -- Mr. Henry ``Troy'' Hoover, 85, of 9 Oakwood Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Napier Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Graniteville Cemetery.

Mr. Hoover, a native of Anderson, was retired from E.I. DuPont, Savannah River Site, and was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, Graniteville. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in North Africa. He was a member of the Samuel Swint American Legion Post No. 77 and The Voyager 1107, 40 and 8.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Burroughs Hoover; and two sisters, Mildred Stephens, Graniteville, and Sarah Hoover, Apalachicola, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Walker, Frank Beard, Cliff Blackwell, Jerry Couch, Jim Hamilton and Joe Rearden.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 40 and 8 and the Samuel Swint American Legion Post No. 77.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Mr. Jessie Johnson Jr.

Retired Army sergeant

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Mr. Jessie Johnson Jr., 43, of 149 E. Meadows Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rocksville Baptist Church Cemetery, Gloverville, with the Rev. Jerry Foreman officiating.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Aiken County, was retired from the Army as a sergeant and was a member of St. Phillip Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jessie P. Johnson III and Michael Anthony Johnson; one daughter, Angela Sims; his mother, Louise S. Johnson; two brothers, Larry Johnson and Lester Donnie Johnson; three sisters, Patricia Johnson, Cherrie Liely and Jovonia Dunbar; and one grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence of Louise S. Johnson, 346 Project Road, Warrenville, or at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary, North Augusta.
