Mrs. Susie Chafin

Retired bookkeeper

WASHINGTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Susie Anderson Chafin, 91, of 309 Water St., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopkins Funeral Home with Dr. Chris Church officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Chafin, a native of Winder, had lived in Wilkes County most of her life. She had retired as a bookkeeper and was a member of Washington Chapel Church.

Survivors include a sister, Gertrude Anderson Church, Atlanta.

Pallbearers will be Paul Still, Richard Maxwell, Edmond Still, Charles Pullen, Aubrey Still and Dent Chafin.

Memorials may be made to Washington Chapel Church or Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Terrence Doggett Sr.

Mr. Terrence Montrey Doggett Sr., 20, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Mount Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Doggett, a native of Augusta, worked for Auto Zone. and was a member of First Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Terrence M. Doggett Jr., Augusta; his mother, Shirley W. Wells, Augusta; his father, Leon Lewis, Augusta; three sisters, Tiffany Curtis, Angela T. Kyler and Tonya Wright, all of Augusta; and his maternal grandmother, Rheno Doggett, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Larry Coleman, Don Doggett, Larry Floyd, Alex Doggett, Julius Doggett and Walter Key.

Friends may call at Williams Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen Givens Jr.

Farmer

GIRARD, Ga. -- Mr. Allen Givens Jr., 64, of 205-C River Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Burke County Hospital, Waynesboro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cochran Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W. Givens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Givens, a native of Burke County, was a former resident of Savannah and returned to Burke County in 1977. He was a farmer and a member of Cochran Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Johnny Givens and Henry Givens, both of Savannah, Lenton Givens, Augusta, and George Givens, Girard; and four sisters, Vencie Heath and Viola Dixon, both of Girard, and Mary Aaron and Eliza Samuels, both of Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Aaron, Sidney Chance, Tommy Heath, Wendell Washington, Tony Brigham and Evans Brigham.

Friends may call at the residence or at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mr. Arthur Griffis

Retired forester

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mr. Arthur T. Griffis, 74, of 473 Jeter St., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edgefield First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.

Mr. Griffis, a native of Edgefield County, had retired from the South Carolina Forestry Service and from Star Fibers. He was a Mason and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Edgefield First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Corley Griffis; a son, Jeff Griffis, Edgefield; a daughter, Debra G. Woodberry, Greenwood; a brother, Hubey Griffis Sr., Edgefield; a sister, Elmer Boniface, Spartanburg; and a grandchild.

Pallbearers will be John Boniface, Pee Wee Padgett, Billy Cartledge, Junior Long, Cooper Watson and Perk Shaffer.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mr. Monroe Grubbs

Retired farmer

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mr. Monroe ``Doc'' Grubbs, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Lebanon Christian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Grubbs, a native of Barnwell County, had retired from Barnwell school district No. 45 and as a farmer. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Christian Church.

Survivors include three sons, Crawley Grubbs, Allen Grubbs and Junior Grubbs, all of Barnwell; four daughters, Hazel Sanders, Ellen Sanders, Beulah Collins and Zelma Still, all of Barnwell; three brothers, Clyde Grubbs and M.J. Grubbs, both of Barnwell, and Roy Grubbs, Charleston; two sisters, Marguerite Black, Barnwell, and Eunice Stanley, Early Branch; and 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Mole Funeral Home.

Mrs. Annie Hammond

Retired schoolteacher

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mrs. Annie W. Hammond, 89, of 224 Pickens St., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Edgefield County Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Haven Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hammond, a native of Appling County, Ga., was a graduate of the University of Georgia and had taught in Georgia schools. She was a member of Newnan First Baptist Church, Newnan, Ga.

Survivors include a son, Claude R. Hammond Jr., Edgefield; and three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mr. Julian Kight

Retired construction superintendent

KEYSVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Julian Henry Kight, 67, of Highway 88, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Arrington officiating.

Mr. Kight, a native of Coffee County, had retired as a construction superintendent and was a member of Marks Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Kight; five sons, Harold Kight and Julian Kight, both of Keysville, Julian Kight and Michael Kight, both of Hephzibah, and Lloyd Kight, McGee, Miss.; three daughters, Rose Goosman, LeLand, Miss., Gladys Wheeler, Keysville, and Teresa Allen, Chattanooga, Tenn.; three brothers, Charles Kight, Keysville, Jimmy Kight, Augusta, and Roger Kight, Blythe; and 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at James and Lowe Funeral Home, Wrens.

Mr. Lloyd Lowe

Retired supervisor

BEECH ISLAND -- Mr. Lloyd John Lowe, 80, of 67 Kimberly Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clearwater First Baptist Church, Clearwater, with the Revs. John Bolin and Craig Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Langley Cemetery, Langley.

Mr. Lowe, a native of Langley, was a former resident of Clearwater. He had retired from Clearwater Finishing Plant as a supervisor after 47 years of service. He was a member of Albert Pike Masonic Lodge No. 174 Accepted and Free Masons and Clearwater First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the senior men's Sunday school class.

Survivors include three sons, Robbie Lowe, Charlotte, N.C., Tommy Lowe, Beech Island, and Carl Lowe, Belvedere; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Boyd, Mike Lambert, John Maietta, Jimmy Hadden and Tim Wilson.

Memorials may be made to the Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, 830 Laurens St. N., Aiken, SC 29801.

Friends may call at the residence of Tommy Lowe, 65 Kimberly Acres Drive.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley.

Mr. Robert Mead

Retired farmer

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Robert Lee Mead, 71, of 1896 Cates Mead Road, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Botsford Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mead, a native of Burke County, had retired as a farmer and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Burke County Cattlemen's Association, Georgia Farm Bureau and Botsford Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Iris E. Mead, Monroe; three brothers, Lovett E. Mead and Gordon D. Mead, both of Waynesboro, and Thomas H. Mead, Midville; five sisters, Mary Forehand, Hiltonia, Minnie Jenkins, North Augusta, Christine Tanner, Conyers, Martha Daniel, Loganville, and Jackie Robbins, Hattiesburg, Miss.; and a grandchild.

Pallbearers will be John Wesley Sturdivant, Grady Mobley, Henry Glisson, DeRossi DeLaigle, Tom Mitchell, Tom Johnson, Sammie Jenkins and Melvin Mobley.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Botsford Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Botsford Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 825 Botsford Church Road, Waynesboro, GA 30830.

Mrs. Hilda Neff

Homemaker

Mrs. Hilda Rose Neff, 71, of 3124 Edinburg Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westover Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Marion Jay officiating.

Mrs. Neff, a native of Monroe, Ohio, had lived in Augusta since 1973. She was a homemaker, and a member of American Association of Retired Persons and St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Bernard Neff, Lilburn, Ga., and Lyle Kevin Neff, Newark, Del.; a daughter, Joy Lynne Clancy, Harlem; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Poteet Funeral Home, Wheeler Road.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
