Mr. M.J. Grubbs

Retired truck driver

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mr. M.J. Grubbs, 72, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, in Columbia.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Mount Lebanon Christian Church with the Revs. Bill Umstetter, Alfred Still and Dan Boineau officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Grubbs, a native of Barnwell County, was retired from Bechtel Corp., Savannah River Site, as a truck driver. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vernice Still Grubbs; three sons, Wayne Grubbs, Ronnie Grubbs and Ricky Grubbs, all of Barnwell; two brothers, Clyde Grubbs, Barnwell, and Roy Grubbs, Charleston; two sisters, Margurite Black, Barnwell, and Eunice Stanley, Early Branch; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Travis Grubbs, Ron Grubbs, Winkie Grubbs, Steve Black, Doug Croft and Clifford Still.

Mole Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daris Hester

Student

THOMSON -- Daris Demtrail ``Dee Dee'' Hester, 16, of 1085 Harrison Drive, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lawson officiating. Burial will be in West Quarters Cemetery.

Daris, a native of Richmond County, was a student of Thomson High School and attended Kingdom Hall.

Survivors include her father, Ricky Hester, Thomson; her mother, Shirley Hester Quinones; her stepmother, Marion Hester, Thomson; four brothers, Lonnie Cobb III, Ricky Hester Jr., Ronterial Hester and Rekeem Hester, all of Thomson; two sisters, Londen Cobb and Diamond Quinones, both of Thomson; her paternal grandmother, Daisy Hester, Thomson; and her maternal grandparents, James and Vonnie Ruth Hill, Thomson.

Pallbearers will be her classmates.

Friends may call at the residence, at the residence of Ricky Hester, 351 Moose Club Road, Thomson, or at Thomson Funeral System.

Mr. David Linyard Jr.

Retired engraver

BELVEDERE -- Mr. David P. Linyard Jr., 69, of 111 Bordeaux St., died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, North Augusta, with the Rev. David F.O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta.

Mr. Linyard, a native of Memphis, Tenn., was retired from Clearwater Finishing Plant, where he worked as an artist and engraver. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, where he had been treasurer and senior warden. He was a member of CSRA Magic Club and a former member of the Lions Club. He was a 1945 graduate of North Augusta High School and a former pony league announcer.

Survivors include his wife, Azalee T. Linyard; one son, David P. Linyard III, Edgefield; two daughters, Pamela L. Lesesne, Tallahassee, Fla., and Camilla L. Haigler, Greenville; his mother, Frieda G. Linyard, Aiken; two brothers, Hewitt Linyard, Lake City, and Samuel Linyard, Columbia; one sister, Frieda Walker, Aiken; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mackie J. Walker, Jonathan E. Walker, Jeffrey Walker, Wade Blount, Gary Thomas and Joseph David Walker Jr.

Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 471 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rowland Funeral Home, North Augusta.

Mrs. Evelyn Patterson

Retired social services director

McCORMICK, S.C. -- Mrs. Evelyn Long Patterson, 69, of 303 S. Cherry St., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at McCormick First Baptist Church with the Revs. Henry Gambell and Dennis Lynn officiating. Burial will be in McCormick City Cemetery.

Mrs. Patterson, a native of McCormick County, was retired as director of the McCormick County Department of Social Services and was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sara Taylor Circle. She was a member of the McCormick County Council, Friends of the Library, board of visitors for Self Memorial Hospital, the Upper Savannah Aging Advisory Committee, the South Carolina Human Services Committee and Red Cross board of directors. She was the 1991 McAbwood State Employee of the Year and a former McCormick County Senior Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Patterson, Lexington, and Pat Patterson, McCormick; one daughter, Ann P. Newell, Greenwood; and four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George Long, Barney Lindley, Mike Jordan, Tommy McGrath, Ken Bearden and George Patterson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of McCormick County Council and employees of the McCormick County Department of Social Services.

Friends may call at the residence.

Mrs. Josie Autry

Graniteville Co. retiree

GRANITEVILLE -- Mrs. Josie Boatright Autry, 82, of 30 Gregg St., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christian Heritage Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Dennis Phillips, Tony Rhodes, Edward Newsome and Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will be in Graniteville Cemetery.

Mrs. Autry, a native of Emanuel County, was retired from Graniteville Co. and was a member of Christian Heritage Congregational Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday school class.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Wilson, Langley, Dean Odum, Graniteville, and Joanne Autry, Aiken; two brothers, Beman Boatright, Midville, Ga., and Myron Boatright, Valdosta, Ga.; four sisters, Dorothy Mathis and Georgia Hicks, both of Graniteville, Eula Screws Morris, Swainsboro, Ga., and Wyline Lewis, Sandersville, Ga; and 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Russell Odum, Wesley Wilson, Mark Moseley, Sammy Odum, Duane Wilson, Jason Newsome, Ronald Barton and Jimmy Rhoads.

Honorary pallbearers will be staff of Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center Stations 2 and 3.

Mrs. Pollie Baldwin

Retiree

THOMSON -- Mrs. Pollie Lofton Baldwin, 86, of 221 Branan St. N.W., died Tuesday, March 3, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stamp Branch Baptist Church, Warren County, with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Baldwin, a native of McDuffie County, was retired from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Chapel Hill.

The family said she was a very devoted sister and aunt.

Survivors include one sister, Maudie M. Wilcher, Thomson.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Friends may call at noon today at Crawford Mortuary.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mr. Clyde Cleland

Retired farmer

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mr. Clyde Alvin Cleland, 92, of 5393 Halcyondale Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Screven County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Hansel and Mike Mann officiating. Burial will be in Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Cleland, a native of Screven County, was a retired farmer and stockman and was a member of Red Bluff Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Tilley Cleland; three sons, Joseph Cleland, Sylvania, Roger Cleland, Atlanta, and Ray Cleland, New Orleans; seven daughters, Mary C. Becton, Daisy C. Davis, Ann C. Britton, Wanda C. Smith and Patsy C. Burkhalter, all of Savannah, Dolawese C. Edison, Melbourne, Fla., and Cathy C. Black, Sylvania; and 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Zula Cole

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mrs. Zula White Cole, 84, of 119 Pinewood Road, died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at National Healthcare.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pineview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Newell officiating.

Mrs. Cole, a native of Durham, N.C., was a homemaker and a member of Buncombe Street Methodist Church, Greenville.

Survivors include her husband, Ormand L. Cole; one daughter, Judy C. Pierce, North Augusta; three sisters, Claudia Carver, Durham, Hazel Pridgen, Goldsboro, N.C., and Billie Sparks, Sacramento, Calif.; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. Maggie Finley

McCORMICK, S.C. -- Mrs. Maggie Mae Gable Finley, 75, of U.S. Highway 221, died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Plum Branch Cemetery, Plum Branch, with the Rev. C.B. Love officiating.

Mrs. Finley, a native of McCormick County, was retired from Milken Mill and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Nathan Finley; one son, Henry ``Allen'' Jennings, McCormick; one daughter, Sandra J. Quarles, Edgefield; one brother, Charles H. Gable, McCormick; one sister, Effie Louise Bowick, McCormick; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Bowick, David Bowick, Vernon Ramsey, Wesley White, Craig Turner, Greg Willis, Vernon Clegg and William Willis.

Friends may call at the residence.
