Mr. Forest Brown

TENNILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Forest Brown, 73, of 300 E. Church St. died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, with the Rev. Charlie Reese officiating. Burial will be in Smith Grove Cemetery, Tennille.

Mr. Brown, a native of Washington County, was a logger.

Survivors include his wife, Annie B. Brown.

Mr. Bobby Byrd

Retired civil servant

Mr. Robert ``Bobby'' Virgil Byrd, 66, of 201 Colonial Road, Martinez, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mr. Byrd, a native of Richmond County, was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and had retired from civil service. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Horne Byrd; two sons, Mack Byrd, Thomson, and Victor Byrd, Martinez; three daughters, Paula Vinson, Augusta, Frankie Wright, Evans, and Kim Lowe, Grovetown; and 14 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale Wilkerson, William Powell, Travis Lever, Cecil Frost, Leon McLamb and Bob Turman.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Irma Dietmeier

Homemaker

SARDIS, Ga. -- Mrs. Irma Godbee Dietmeier, 45, of 758 Ellison Bridge Road, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sardis Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill King officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery.

Mrs. Dietmeier, a native of Burke County, had lived in Sardis for five years and was a former resident of Texas. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Mario Bernal Jr., Edinburg, Texas; four daughters, Kimmie Bernal, Lydia Bernal Luna, Tammy Bernal and Jessica Bernal, all of Edinburg; her mother, Frances Godbee, Sardis; two brothers, Lamar Godbee, Sardis, and James L. Godbee, Savannah; and four sisters, Shirley Crews and Brenda Sheehan, both of Sardis, Martha McClain, Alexander, and Kathy Sikes, Jacksonville, Fla.

Pallbearers will be James Hollingsworth, Arthur Long, Donald Baker, Jut Wynne, Craig Kennedy Sr. and Bobby Posey.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mrs. Rosa Ellison

Homemaker

GIRARD, Ga. -- Mrs. Rosa Lee Lovett Ellison, 94, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Screven County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda United Methodist Church with the Revs. Royce Story, Steve Brinton and Harold Sheppard officiating. Burial will be at Bethany United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ellison, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph R. Ellison and Robert L. ``Bob'' Ellison, both of Sylvania; and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Mead, Gordon Mead, Howell Roberts, Randall Jenkins, Joe Mead and Gene Mead.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, c/o Kathleen Perry, 1349 Bethesda Church Road, Girard, GA 30426.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Joseph Williams

Carpenter

TENNILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Joseph G. Williams, 51, of 216 Lincoln Drive, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Jordan Grove Baptist Church, Davisboro, with the Rev. Tom Miles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Williams, a native of New York, was a carpenter. He was a 17-year member of Greater Faith Baptist Church, Atlanta, where he was president of the usher board.

His family said he was known affectionately as ``Joe Bear.''

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Williams, Warthen; six sons, Keith Williams, Ronald Williams, Christopher Williams, Jeffery Williams and Michael Williams, all of Sandersville, and Stanley Williams, Reidsville; a stepdaughter, Sharon Miles, Warthen; his father and stepmother, James M. Williams and Annie L. Williams, Augusta; two brothers, Johnny Williams, Augusta, and James M. Williams Jr., Waynesboro; two sisters, Emma Lou Williams, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Rosa M. Hooks; three stepbrothers, Samuel Royal, John Royal and Jason Royal, all of Augusta; six stepsisters, Margaret Lawson, Whilmenia Hines, Carrie Phizane, Annie Will Speed, Lucille Speed and Willie Mae Brothers; and 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Tybee Community Christmas Savings Club.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Melvin Gray Jr.

Businessman

Mr. Melvin L. Gray Jr., 55, of 666 Fury's Ferry Road, Martinez, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, with the Rev. Dan White officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Gray, a native of Augusta, was a former vice president for Coordinated Apparel and had been a horse trainer for 25 years. He was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nora R. Gray; three sons, Jayson D. Wheatley and Adam J. Wheatley, both of Martinez, and Timothy Lee ``Tad'' Gray, Augusta; two daughters, Leesa A. Gray and Tabitha A. Wheatley, both of Martinez; his mother, Mary Gray, Martinez; two brothers, Albert Gray and Carl Gray, both of Columbia; a sister, Willie Belle Jenkins, Atlanta; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Grace Harbin

AIKEN -- Mrs. Grace Day Harbin, 89, of 830 Laurens St., died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Graniteville Cemetery, Graniteville, with the Rev. George S. Duffie officiating.

Mrs. Harbin, a native of Birmingham, Ala., had lived in Aiken since 1984. She was a secretary and receptionist, and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Her family said she was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby R. Day, Fripp Island, and Larry N. Day, Aiken; a daughter, Shirley McKiel, Dallas; three sisters, Eunice Edwards, Mauleen Gardner and Cornelia Chasteen, all of Birmingham; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at George Funeral Home, Park Avenue.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. John Haymans

Retired brickmason

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. John Noah Haymans, 81, of 856 Liberty St., died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at DeLoach Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Rowland officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Haymans, a native of Bryan County, had lived in Burke County for 36 years. He had retired as a brickmason. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Okie Sikes Haymans; three daughters, Brenda Haymans Hunter and Wanda Yates, both of Savannah, and Judy Johnson, Sevierville, Tenn.; a brother, Robert W. Haymans, Richmond Hill; two sisters, Martha Ruth Smith, Savannah, and Joyce Reid, Austin, Texas; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Darrell White, Gerald Haymans, Mickey Sikes, David Haymans, Jin Haymans and Christopher Smith.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hortense Hill

SPARTA, Ga. -- Mrs. Hortense O. Hill, 67, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Macon Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stiles Cobb officiating. Burial will be at Culverton Baptist Church, Culverton.

Mrs. Hill, a native of Warren County, was a longtime Sparta resident. She was a graduate of Thomson High School, a homemaker and a real estate broker. She was a member of Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Hill; three sons, Jack Hill Jr., Steven Hill and David Hill, all of Sparta; a sister, Ann Rooney, Marietta; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Sam Hollis, Jay Holland, Ben Lovejoy, Bert Purvis and Albert Rachels.

Memorials may be made to the John Hancock Academy.

Friends may call at the residence or Curtis Funeral Home, Thomson.

Mrs. Lillian Jones

Mrs. Lillian Dillerplane Jones, 76, of 108 East Court, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with the Rev. Ray Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley.

Mrs. Jones, a native of Smokering, Pa., had lived in Augusta most of her life. She had retired from the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home as a server and was a Baptist.

Survivors include five sons, Johnny H. Jones and Frankie Robert Leopard, both of Augusta, Bradford Williams, Thomaston, Ga., Larry Edward Jones, Warrenville, and George Lewis Jones, North Augusta; three daughters, Louis Lunsford, Thomaston, Laverne Manor, Clearwater, and Beverly Ward, Gloverville; two brothers, Junior Hamlet, Gloverville, and Arthur Dillerplane, Dearing; a sister, Nellie Williams, New York; and 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Laverne Manor, 19 Townsend St., Clearwater.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
