Mr. Raleigh Cail Sr.

Farmer

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mr. Raleigh Cail Sr., 73, of 346 Ford Road, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Screven County High School Auditorium with the Rev. Raleigh Cail Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Dixon Branch Church Cemetery.

Mr. Cail, a native of Rocky Ford, was a farmer and a retired school bus driver. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Dixon Branch Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, church treasurer and leader of ward No. 2.

Survivors include three sons, Raleigh Cail Jr. and Ronald Cail, both of Sylvania, and Randy Cail, Rocky Ford; one daughter, Betty Williams, Hiltonia; three brothers, Fred Cail, Rocky Ford, Ben Cail, Augusta, and Hoover Cail, Woodbridge, Va.; and four sisters, Beatrice Life and Ruby Jackson, both of Rocky Ford, Mattie Burgest, Savannah, and Earnestine Scott, Sylvania.

Pallbearers will be Gary Jackson, Cornelius Marshall, Pierre Cail, Stacey Jackson, Terry Roberson and Curtis McCall.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Booker T. Scott Memorial Chapel.

Sylvania Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Monroe Capers

Gray's Construction Co. employee

HAMPTON, S.C. -- Mr. Monroe Capers died Monday, April 13, 1998.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Christian Church, Varnville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Capers, a native of Hampton County, was an employee at Gray's Construction Co., Varnville, and a member of Antioch Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where he served as elder. He was the superintendent and Bible school president with the South Carolina Convention of Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Capers-Singleton, Charlotte, N.C., and Arlene Capers, Hampton; one brother, Earl Capers, Varnville; one sister, Beatrice Blakes, Burton; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Washington's Funeral Home.

Dr. Eartha Clark

MONTMORENCI -- Dr. Eartha Dell Simmons Clark, 64, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Aiken Technical College Student Center, Aiken, with the Revs. George E. Weaver, Amos Jones and Henry Curry officiating. Burial will be at Old Rosemary Church.

Dr. Clark, a native of Aiken County, was the author of The Relationship Between Self-Concept, Reading Ability and Mathematics Ability. She had been a research analyst at Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., and served as a consultant with Citibank. She had been a teacher with Twin City High School, Batesburg-Leesville High School, Martha Schofield High School. She attended Rosemary and Martha Schofield High School and was a 1955 graduate of South State College. She received her master's degree and doctorate in education from Rutgers University and was a member of the City Administrators and Supervisors Association, Educational Supervisors of New Jersey and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She was the Internal Royal Matron of the Amaranth with the International Supreme Council of the World Masons Inc. and was a member of Old Rosemary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don C. Clark.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Old Rosemary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Joyce Collins

Retired seamstress

HAMPTON, S.C. -- Mrs. Joyce Croft Collins, 62, of 202 Middle St., died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, in Charleston.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Huggin Oak Church of God, Cummings. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery.

Mrs. Collins, a native of Bamberg County, was a retired seamstress and a member of Huggin Oak Church of God, where she was vice president of ladies ministries.

Survivors include her husband, James Edward Collins; three daughters, Jackie C. Dukes, Angela C. Tuten and Stephanie C. Breland; two brothers, M.L. Croft Jr. and Jimmy C. Croft; and three sisters, Reba Mae Still, Kathaleen Hightower and JoAnn Bowers.

Mrs. Mae Cooper

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Mae Bell Cooper, 84, of 186 Fourth St., died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Statesboro.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Sardis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cooper, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir. She had attended Screven County public schools.

Survivors include her husband, Israel Cooper; five sons, Clyde Cooper, Thomas Cooper, Raymond Cooper and Lucious Cooper, all of Sylvania, and Herman Cooper, Rochester, N.Y.; seven daughters, Lizzie B. Green, Freddie Oliver, Mary L. Prescott and Effie L. Reedy, all of Sylvania, Gertrude Perkins, Sardis, Henrietta Bryant, Rochester, and Wynonia Carter, Augusta; three sisters, Lillie M. Oliver and Ethel Davis, both of Sylvania, and Qunnie M. Walker, Danie, Pa.; and 53 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Damian Davis

Army retired

Mr. Damian C. Davis, 52, of 696 Wellington Drive, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert L. Oliver Sr. officiating.

Mr. Davis, a native of Key West, Fla. was retired from the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter No. 18.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Attaway; one daughter, Dana Renee Davis, Asheville, N.C.; two stepsons, Robert Attaway and Jess Attaway, both of Augusta; and two stepdaughters, Sarah Attaway and Jennifer Attaway, both of Augusta.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 338, Evans, GA 30809.

Mrs. Rosa Davis

HAMPTON, S.C. -- Mrs. Rosa Lee Davis, 79, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Colleton Medical Center, Walterboro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Burison Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Davis, a native of Hampton County, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Lee Davis Jr., Bamberg.

Mr. Bennie Edwards Sr.

SPARTA, Ga. -- Mr. Bennie Lee Edwards Sr., 69, of 922 Jones St., died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Sparta Health Care.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Alexander Ingram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Edwards, a native of Hancock County, was a retired mason and a member of St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Brinie Edwards; five sons, Bennie L. Edwards Jr. and Frank T. Edwards, both of Sparta, Fred T. Edwards, Greensboro, Charles Clark, New York, and Michael Clark, Atlanta; two daughters, Cheryl E. Scott, Conyers, and Brenda Cleveland, Stone Mountain; one brother, Charles Frank Edwards, Englewood, N.J.; two sisters, Gwendolyn Hollingsworth, McDonough, and Esther E. Lowe, Lithonia; and four grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.

Mrs. Vernell Jones

Mrs. Vernell Jones, 83, of 1409 Jill St., Martinez, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. S.T. Thompkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Jones, a native of Emanuel County, Ga.,was a homemaker and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she served as church mother and was a member of the Piney Grove Spirituals and the deaconess board.

Survivors include one son, Columbus Jones Jr., Martinez; one daughter, Mary Curry, Martinez; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Booker T. Avery Jr., Barry Burnett, Durrence Smith, George Jones Jr., Henry Jones and Melvin Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willie LaBord Sr.

Retired mechanic

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. Willie C. ``Toddy'' LaBord Sr., 74, of 218 Finley Circle, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. LaBord, a native of Edgefield County, was a retired mechanic and a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Beatrice LaBord; four sons, Willie C. LaBord and Robert LaBord, both of North Augusta, and Ronnie LaBord and Ollie J. LaBord, both of Atlanta; five daughters, Marie Griffen, Bernice Adams and Cassandra Elam, all of North Augusta, and Mary Sims and Frances Sims, both of Columbia; and 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Marie Griffen, 217 Finley Circle, or at 1 p.m. today at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary.
