Mrs. Lula Messex

Homemaker

Mrs. Lula Joyner Messex, 100, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro.

Mrs. Messex, a native of Jenkins County, was a homemaker and a member of Habersham Methodist Church, Perkins.

Survivors include one son, David C. Messex, Oakwood; two daughters, Vera E. Himbaugh, Ballwin, Mo., and Elsie M. Utley, Augusta; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Habersham Methodist Church, Perkins, GA 30822 or the St. Joseph Hospice Fund, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elizabeth McIntosh

Retired waitress

AIKEN -- Mrs. Elizabeth C. ``Red'' McIntosh, 66, of 308 E. Boundary St., died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at George Funeral Home, Park Avenue, with the Rev. Marion Britton officiating. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. McIntosh, a native of Greenwood, was a retired waitress.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll F. McIntosh; five sons, Ernie McIntosh, Carroll McIntosh Jr., Billy McIntosh, Sammy McIntosh and Jimmy Wood, all of Aiken; her mother, Carrie M. Minor; one brother, Billy Dean Minor, Aiken; two sisters, Bootsie Gunter and Brenda Jay, both of Ninety Six, S.C.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mr. William Raines

Retired business owner

Mr. William B. Raines, 66, of 2922 Mayfair Court, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. David B. Jones and James A. Raines officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Raines, a native of Augusta, was retired as owner and president of W.E. Raines Co. Building Supply and as an appraiser with Bankers First. He served in the Army and was a graduate of Georgia Tech and had been president of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. He was an Eagle Scout and the 1983 recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He also received the Cross and Flame Award. He was a founder of the Augusta Builders Exchange and had been president of the Augusta Jaycees and State Director of the Georgia Jaycees. He had been a member of the Rotary Club of Augusta and was a member of the Augusta Country Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 205. He was a member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, where he had been a school teacher and a member of the official board.

Pallbearers will be Robert Symms, John B. Black, W. Respess Carr, C.M. McMahan, Jack L. Cooper, DeWitt R. Dent, L. Donald Raines Jr. and William Bennett Raines.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Trinity-on-the-Hill adult couples and singles Sunday school class.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy B. Raines; one son, Paul E. Raines, San Mateo, Calif.; one daughter, Brenda R. Proctor, Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, James A. Raines, Greensboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Community Outreach, Baylie Simms Fund, 1301 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901; or Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, Adult couples and singles Sunday school class, 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Poteet Funeral Home, Wheeler Road.

Mrs. Dorothy Singleton

Homemaker

HARLEM -- Mrs. Dorothy Cofer Singleton, 73, of 610 S. Louisville St., died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harlem United Methodist Church with the Revs. Terry Phillips and Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Harlem Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Singleton, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker and a member of Harlem United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Helen Walton Sunday School Class and the ladies Bible study.

Survivors include two sons, James Singleton Jr., Harlem, and John Singleton, Phoenix; three daughters, Mary E. Phillips, Cordele, Karen Singleton, Harlem, and Catherine S. Pate, Martinez; one sister, Mattie Wiegand, San Antonio; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Helen Walton Sunday School Class, the Harlem United Methodist Women and the Wisdom Seekers Bible Study of Harlem United Methodist Church.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Starling Funeral Home.

Mrs. Louise Suber

Retired lunchroom supervisor

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mrs. Louise E. Suber died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Windermere Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Big Ochlocknee Cemetery, Ochlocknee, Ga., with the Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.

Mrs. Suber, a native of Roswell, Ga., was a retired lunchroom supervisor with the Thomas County School System. She was a member of Coolidge Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Larry Suber, North Augusta; one sister, Virginia O'Brian, Atlanta; and two daughters.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1841 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329; or the American Cancer Society, 305 University Drive, Office No. 4, Valdosta, GA 31602.

Allen and Allen Funeral Home, Thomasville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mildred Todd

AIKEN -- Mrs. Mildred W. ``Millie'' Todd, 79, of 916 Wheeler Drive, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at George Funeral Home, Park Avenue, with the Rev. Millie Hickey officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mrs. Todd, a native of Springfield, Ill., was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was a master bridge player.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Todd, Aiken, and Jerry Todd, Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, C.W. Wheeler, Arizona; two sisters, Mary Wininger, Aiken, and Frances Hawley, Odin, Ill.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Vince Davis, Elliott Holsenback, Bill Walters, Dale Snader, Mike McAlpin and Eddie Seigler.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1936, Evans, GA 30809.

Mrs. Zelma Brantley

Homemaker

KITE, Ga. -- Mrs. Zelma Colston Brantley, 92, of Route 1, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Rehoboth Baptist Church with the Revs. James Willis and Arthur Conley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brantley, a native of Johnson County, was a homemaker and the oldest member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include one son, Hubert Brantley, Kite; one daughter, Hazel Riner, Swainsboro; two sisters, W.R. Brantley Sr., Wrightsville, and E.E. Fortner, Metter; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Friends may call at noon today at the Rehoboth Baptist Church or at the residence of Alfred and Hazel Riner, 517 Prince Ave., Swainsboro.

Johnson Funeral Home, Swainsboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tyrone Cathcart Jr.

Food service employee

HEPHZIBAH -- Mr. Tyrone Cathcart Jr., 21, of 3671 Gibraltar Drive, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at South Augusta Church of Christ with the Revs. Earl Anderson and Mike McCormick officiating.

Mr. Cathcart, a native of Panama, was a food service employee and a 1995 graduate of Butler High School and had attended Voohera College, Bamberg, S.C.

Survivors include his father, Tyrone Cathcart, Columbus, Ohio; his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Colon, both of Hephzibah; two brothers, Derich A. Wilson and Christopher E. Cathcart, both of Hephzibah; his paternal grandmother, Veronica Beard, Columbus; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Welsh, Panama.

Pallbearers will be Edgar LaMotte, Chris Martin, Clarence Joffion, Jo Jo Cummings, Herbert Flowers, Jeroime Berry and Travis Richerson.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jesse Carroll Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Joseph Cheetham Jr.

DuPont retiree

AIKEN -- Mr. Joseph L.E. ``Pete'' Cheetham Jr., 85, of 21 Longwood Drive, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Rev. Michael Powell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Cheetham, a native of Philadelphia, was a retired supervisor with E.I. DuPont and a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served in the North Atlanta Convoy Duty and took part in the amphibious operation in Linguyan Gulf, Philippines. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and the American Order of French Croix De Guerre Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Brown Cheetham; one son, James Larkin Cheetham, Acworth, Ga.; one daughter, Nancy Cheetham Hartley, Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Building Fund, 125 Pendleton St., Aiken, SC 29801; or to Hitchcock Hospice, 721 Richland Ave., Aiken, SC 29801.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shellhouse Funeral Home.
