Mr. Faries Thompson

Civil service retiree

Date of announcement: May 02, 1998

Mr. Faries Ware Thompson, of 1239 Steiner Ave., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at United House of Prayer for All People with C.M. Bailey, apostle, officiating. Burial will be Monday in United House of Prayer, Dearing.

Mr. Thompson, a native of McDuffie County, was retired from the civil service at Fort Gordon and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of United House of Prayer for All People and a life member of the American Legion Post 235.

Survivors include two sons, Forrest Thompson, North Augusta, and Willie H. Thompson, Chester, Va.; two daughters, Mary E. Thompson and Ida L. Williams, both of Augusta; two sisters, Hattie B. Bradshaw and Katie Jones, both of Augusta; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruby Tompkins

NORFOLK, Va. -- Mrs. Ruby Kelley Tompkins, 82, died April 22, 1998.

The funeral was Sunday at Azalea Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Owens and Lawson Pankey officiating. Interment was in Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico.

Mrs. Tompkins, a native of Warrenton, Ga., was a member of Azalea Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Smile Club. She was a member of Camellia Shores Garden Club, the Civic League and the American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 1757.

Survivors include her husband, Troy Owen Tompkins; four daughters, Anne Wilson and Lana Hurdle, both of Arlington, June Steger, Mount Prospect, Ill., and Faye Wagoner, Fairfax; two sisters, Mildred Timmerman, Augusta, and Martha Lawson, Clinton, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Azalea Baptist Church Carpet Fund, 3314 E. Little Creek Road, Norfolk, VA 23518.

Mr. Archie Vaughn

Polygraph technician

Mr. Archie David Vaughn, 57, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Vaughn, a native Fieldale, Va., was a polygraph technician and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in Army intelligence. He was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one brother, James H. Vaughn, Hephzibah; and one sister, Dorothy M. Vaughn, Grovetown.

Mr. James Anderson

Retired diesel mechanic

Mr. James M. Anderson, 56, of 2328 Knox Ave., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Revs. Guy Campbell and Paul Borden officiating. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Anderson, a native of Augusta, had retired from Southern Diesel, Clearwater, as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of the Holiness faith.

His family said he was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather and although gone will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Anderson; a son, Michael James Anderson, Augusta; four daughters, Lisa A. Lowe and Kimberly A. Key, both of Aiken, Janet A. McIntosh, Beech Island, and Latisha A. Byrley, Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Larry Anderson, Augusta, Rudolph Anderson, Hephzibah, and Kenneth Anderson, Blythe; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Elroy Crawford, Harold McIntosh, Robert Key, Barry Ward, Terry Lowe and Tony Byrley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Wade Ashmore

Engineer

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mr. Wade Hampton Ashmore, 89, of 1118 Lakeside Drive, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Morningside Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Rayner, Ellis Moore and Albert Stroup officiating. Burial will be in Double Branches Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ashmore, a native of Lincoln County, was an engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a Navy veteran, and a member and past master of Lincolnton Masonic Lodge No. 354, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Homer Legg Eastern Star Chapter 535. He was a charter member and deacon emeritus of Morningside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edith M. Ashmore; two sons, Len Hampton Ashmore, Des Allemands, La., and Henry Lee Ashmore, Smyrna; two stepdaughters, Carole Gazette, Martinez, and Ellen Kirby, Lincolnton; three sisters, Alice Sanders, Hyannis, Fla., Mamie Moss, Augusta, and Hazel O'Connel, Del Ray Beach, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jack Saggus, Robert F. Wilkes, Billy Norman, Mike Frazier, Richard Butler and Marion Butler.

Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center, 1001 Johnson's Ferry Road N.E., Atlanta, GA 30363.

Friends may call until 2 p.m. today at Rees Funeral Home.

Mrs. Maggie Bramlett

Mrs. Bramlett, a native of Greene County, was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ, Cordele.

Survivors include two sons, George Bramlett, Perry, and James Autry Bramlett, Union Point; a daughter, Shirley Bramlett Cable, Winterville; a brother, Buford Byrd, Marietta; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter, a native of Old Barnwell County, was a member of Macedonia Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Carter Sr.; a son, Johnny Carter Jr., Fort Leonard Wood, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Joan C. Hicks, Allendale; her mother, Phebia Garvin Badger, Columbus, Ga.; a brother, John Badger Jr., Jacksonville; two sisters, Stephanie Badger and Beverly Williams, both of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Betsy Chandler

Mrs. Betsy Hardin Chandler, of Evans, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warren Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank S. Page officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Rose Mere Cemetery, Opelika, Ala.

Mrs. Chandler, a native of St. Louis, was a registered hospice nurse. She was a member of Warren Baptist Church, where she was a member of Bible Study Fellowship.

Her family said she was a loving, caring wife, mother and nurse. She has gone to the mansion He has prepared for her on streets of gold.

Survivors include her husband, Jim L. Chandler; a son, William H. Chandler, Grovetown; and a daughter, Carole Nipper, Greenville, S.C.

Pallbearers will be members of the Cosper Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Moody Bible Radio Station WLPE 91.7; or to His Radio WAFJ 88.3; or to St. Joseph Hospice Program, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Mr. Kavirayil Chandy

Mr. Chandy, a native of south India, had retired. He was a member of Syrian Orthodox Church of Atlanta.

Survivors include his wife, Kunjoonjamma Chandy; and four sisters, Mariamma Chandy, Sosamma Chandy, Achamma Chandy and Aleyamma Chandy, all of India.

Pallbearers will be George Kokkoth, Mani Joseph, Matthew Punnose, T.P. John, Daniel George, K.C. George, Thomas Alexander and Joy Abraham.

Mrs. Criswell, a native of Sumter, S.C., was a longtime Warrenton resident. She was a homemaker and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Ava Dunaway and Ethel Deaton, both of Warrenton, Margie Bales, Thomson, and Patricia Chavis, Barnwell, S.C.; a sister, Beulah Hubbard, Walhalla, S.C.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bales, Bill Thigpen, Gene Radford, Tim Bales, Owen Williams and Russell Richards.
