Mrs. Mattie Criswell

WARRENTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Mattie C. Criswell, 84, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Curtis Funeral Home, Thomson, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Criswell, a native of Sumter, S.C., was a longtime Warrenton resident. She was a homemaker and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Ava Dunaway and Ethel Deaton, both of Warrenton, Margie Bales, Thomson, and Patricia Chavis, Barnwell, S.C.; a sister, Beulah Hubbard, Walhalla, S.C.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bales, Bill Thigpen, Gene Radford, Tim Bales, Owen Williams and Russell Richards.

Friends may call at the residence of Margie Bales, 211 Gordon St., Thomson, or at the funeral home.

Mr. Aaron Davis Sr.

Farmer

SALLEY -- Mr. Aaron Davis Sr., 80, of 19 Honeysuckle Trail, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey Spring Baptist Church, Springfield, with the Rev. Willie Wilson III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Davis, a native of Blackville, was a farmer and a member of Oakey Spring Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Aaron Davis Jr., Wagener, Joe Louis Davis, Trenton, N.J., Walter Davis, Freehold, N.J., and Isaac Davis, Detroit; three daughters, Elizabeth Staley, Wagener, Jeanie Mae Saylor, Wilmington, Del., and Gladies Davis, Trenton; a sister, Lizzie Salley, Blackville; and 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tyrone Davis, Bobby James, Levon Tyler, Vincent Hawkins, Roy Keitt, Donta Tyler and Edward Hartwell.

Friends may call at the residence of Aaron Davis Jr., 150 Honeysuckle Trail.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at J.H. Robinson's Funeral Home, Wagener.

Mrs. Belle Fitch

Retired teacher

LAKE CITY, S.C. -- Mrs. Belle Williams Fitch, of Florence Avenue, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Carolina Hospital, Florence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, with the Rev. Lester Branham officiating. Burial will be in Williams Family Cemetery, Springfield.

Mrs. Fitch, a native of Aiken County, had retired as a schoolteacher and was a member of the Florence County Retired Teachers' Association. She was a 1941 graduate of Winthrop College. She was a member of Lake City Baptist Church, where she taught the Sunday school beginners' class for 40 years.

Survivors include two brothers, John Wesley Williams and David Hansford Williams, both of Bamberg; and a sister, Daisy M. VanValkenburg, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Carroll Heape

HAMPTON, S.C. -- Mr. Carroll ``Sonny'' Heape, 67, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Charleston.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamilton Family Cemetery.

Mr. Heape, a native of Lurray, was a salesman of agricultural products. He was a Clemson University graduate and served in the Army Air Corps as a captain for 12 years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Roy ``Butch'' Heape, Hephzibah; four daughters, Elizabeth ``Libby'' Mattingly, Susan Heape and Michelle Walling, all of Orangeburg, and Wendy Lee, Columbia; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cooner Funeral Home, Bamberg.

Mrs. Jessie Hood

DEARING -- Mrs. Jessie Hood, 92, of 2321 Old Whiteoak Road, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Providence Health Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Walker Cemetery with Mr. Bob Chandler officiating.

Mrs. Hood, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Hood and Judson Hood, both of Dearing; two daughters, Bernice Welch, Dearing, and Dot Robinson-Chandler, Smithfield, Va.; and nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Eleanor Hutchinson

SHARON, Pa. -- Mrs. Eleanor McVicker Hutchinson, 78, of 1333 Highland Road, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Sharon Regional Hospital.

A private memorial service will be Tuesday at Sample-O'Donnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas A. Sebben officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.

Mrs. Hutchinson, a native of Edgewood, was a longtime Sharpsville resident. She was a 1923 graduate of Sharpsville High School and a homemaker. She was a former member of the Sharon General Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, Athens, Ga. She was a member of Sharpsville Lodge No. 237, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, where she was a member of the Mariner's Class.

Survivors include her husband, Carlton E. Hutchinson; two sons, C. Alan Hutchinson, Augusta, and Kurt McVicker Hutchinson, Gettysburg; a daughter, Heather Lynn Beeman, Plymouth, N.H.; a brother, Alan McVicker, Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Jean R. Urzua, Seneca, S.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Joe Lairscy Sr.

SARDIS, Ga. -- Mr. Joe F. Lairscy Sr., 62, of 4486 Highway 24 South, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Millen, with the Revs. Jack Deeds, Terry Hendrix and Al Gilliland officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millen.

Mr. Lairscy, a native of Jenkins County, was a woodcraftsman and a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 238. He was an Army Reserves veteran of the Korean Conflict, and he was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Joe Lairscy Jr., Sardis; three daughters, Carolyn Hagan, Grovetown, Brenda Lackman, Augusta, and Nancy Taylor, Woodstock; a brother, Ellis Lairscy, Bloomingdale; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Wendum, Emory Lewis, Franklin Hill, Pete Dailey, Bo Taylor, Murray Taylor, Bobby Jenkins and Clarence Overstreet.

Friends may call until noon Monday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home, Millen.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joe Hulsey officiating.

Mrs. Lee, a native of Bulloch County, was a homemaker and a member of Clio Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Terry Lee, Statesboro; two daughters, Annette Miller, Atlanta, and Sharon Holly, Savannah; a brother, Warnell Brown, Statesboro; four sisters, Myrtice Meeks, Eugenia Jones and Bernice Brannen, all of Statesboro, and Ruby Schwalls, Swainsboro; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Frank Lee, Sollie Whitehurst, David Lanier, David Hodges, Billy Brown and Edwin Brown.

BARTOW, Ga. -- Mr. J. Orren McNeely, 87, of Route 1, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Old Capitol Inn, Louisville.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moxley United Methodist Church, Moxley Community, with the Revs. Billy Howell and Ed Deen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. McNeely, a native of Washington County, had lived in Jefferson County most of his life. He had retired as a farmer and as a logger. He was also a carpenter. He was a member of Moxley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Corine Green McNeely; and a brother, S.M. McNeely, Bartow.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Friends may call at the residence of Ricky and Betty Sue Green, 3095 Bostic Mill Road.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Wadley.

Ms. Maybell Mitchell

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Ms. Maybell Mitchell, 83, died Thursday, April 30, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church with L.R. Smith and the Revs. Robert Gordon, Eugene Cryer and Kenneth White officiating. Burial will be in Emmanuel Rune Cemetery.

Ms. Mitchell, a native of Allendale County, worked for the Dickinson and Eubanks Banks family. She organized and coached the Barnwell Braves. She was a member of St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as mother of the church and was a member of the Missionary Society and the Steward Board.

Survivors include a brother, Leroy Mitchell, Jersey City, N.J.; and four sisters, Rosa Lee Wright, Piscataway, N.J., Johnnie Mae Owens, Savannah, Carrie Cooks, Leesburg, Fla., and Florrie Mitchell Wright, Estill.
