Mr. Leroy Steed

Mr. Leroy Moses Steed, of 3438 Toms Drive, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin McCrae officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Steed, a native of Augusta, was a graduate of Lucy Laney High School. He had retired from the New York Transit Authority and was an employee of Curtis Cab Co. He had served on the Augusta Planning Commission, was president of Breeze Hill Subdivision Neighborhood Association and was a member of the Augusta-Richmond County Neighborhood Associations Alliance Inc. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post 263, Catonsville, Md., Hiram Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of New York and Mystic Star Lodge No. 62, where he was a past master and worshipful master. He was president of the Augusta Pool Checker Club. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie L. Howard Steed; a son, Leroy Steed II, Augusta; a daughter, Beverly Steed Battle, Augusta; his stepfather, Charles Savage, Baltimore; a brother, James Perry Steed, Augusta; and two sisters, Richardine Holmes, Atlanta, and Danette Daggett, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Finks, Yule Mitchell, Theodore Miller, Reuben Chapman, Antonio Lewis and William Jordan.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Breeze Hill subdivision Neighborhood Association.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home.

Mr. Clarence Weaver

Retired sanitation worker

BLACKVILLE, S.C. -- Mr. Clarence Weaver, 67, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Meadowbrook Health Care.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Johnston, with the Rev. Brooks Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Weaver, a native of Edgefield County, had retired as a sanitation worker. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Wilbur Weaver.

Friends may call at the residence of Mary Smallwood, Long Cane Road, or at Amos and Sons Funeral Home, Johnston.

Mrs. Martha Whitlock

MADISON, Ga. -- Mrs. Martha Kaye Ruark Whitlock, 45, of 1370 Copelan Road, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church, Bostwick, with the Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitlock, a native of Walton County, had lived in Morgan County most of her life and attended Morgan County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Wesley Cannon; three daughters, Janie Whitlock, Dana Whitlock and Jenna Whitlock, all of Madison; four brothers, Johnny Ruark, Albuquerque, N.M., Steve Ruark, Madison, Reuben Ruark, Good Hope, and Charles Ruark, Bostwick; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Ruark, Randell Wilson, Chris Stewart, William Stewart, Zeb Adams and George Cannon.

Mr. Carl Williams Sr.

BLACKVILLE, S.C. -- Mr. Carl Edward Williams Sr. died Friday, May 1, 1998, in Barnwell County.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hope Memorial Park, Barnwell.

Mr. Williams, a native of Allendale county, was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he chaired the board of trustees.

Survivors include three sons, Carl E. Williams Jr. and Charles E. Williams, both of Blackville, and Dennis Williams, St. Charles, Mo.; four daughters, Lovenia Reed, Mary Hunter and Ruth Smalls, all of Blackville, and Joe Marie Martino, Ehrhardt; and 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Helen Allen

Mrs. Helen Josephine Allen, 87, of 1730 Sibley Road, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary On The Hill Catholic Church with the Rev. Allan McDonald officiating.

Mrs. Allen, a native of Conception Harbor, Newfoundland, was a retired registered nurse and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Allen, Boyertown, Pa.; one daughter, Winifred Coleman, Evans; two sisters, Violet Hoffman, Stuart, Fla., and Ann Flanagan, Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Coleman, Chad Allen, Jason Allen, Thomas Allen, Dana Hansen, Sean Coleman and Gerry Tobin officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Richmond Columbia County Unit, P.O. Box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903.

Mr. Anderson, a native of Graniteville, had served in the Army.

Mrs. Davenport, a native of Greene County, was a member of Oconee Baptist Church.

The family said she was the family matriarch and was affectionately called ``Mama Etta.''

Survivors include six sons, Karriem Muhammad, Augusta, Virgus Davenport, Curtis Davenport, Alvin S. Davenport, David Davenport and Carl E. Davenport; seven daughters, Clara L. Webster, Lillie M. Watson, Henrietta Little, Lucy A. Davenport, Alma J. Roberts, Sarah Alexander and Brenda A. Floyd; and 54 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Willie Fair

Mr. Fair, a native of Bleckley County, was retired from Southern Railroad and as a maintenance superintendent with Cochran and Bleckley County School Systems. He was a member of Cochran First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine L. Fair; one son, Tony Fair, Statesboro; one daughter, Gay Fair Runnion, Kennesaw; one brother, Melvin L. Fair, Bradenton, Fla.; one sister, Nell Ivey, Warner Robins; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home.

Mr. Douglas Ham Jr.

Ham and John Richard Ham, both of Forsythe, and Charlie Ham, Cocoa, Fla.; three sisters, Lucille Harwell and Francis Richardson, both of Forsythe, and Ann Brown, Milledgeville; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. William Harris

Marine Corps retiree

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Olar, with the Revs. Edward Stiltz and Wilbur Creech officiating. Burial will be in Starr Cemetery, Olar.

Mr. Harris, a native of Ferriday, La., was a retired captain with the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Survivors include his wife, Delores S. Harris; five sons, Terry Harris, Charleston, Jimmy Harris, Albany, Ga., Jerry Harris and Robert Harris, both of Rock Hill, and Greg Harris, Bainbridge, Ga.; one brother, Robert Harris, Columbus, Miss.; four sisters, Ann Grossman, Diamond Head, Miss., Pat Rutland and Dena Howington, both of Wesson, Miss., and Carol Crowley, Van Cleave, Miss.; and 11 grandchildren.
