Mr. Dave Hazel

AIKEN -- Mr. Dave Hazel, 76, of 2152 Williston Road, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Magnolia Hill Nursing Facility, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Phillips Baptist Church, North Augusta, with the Revs. Jerry W. Freeman and David Williams. Burial will be in Glover Cemetery, Gloverville.

Mr. Hazel, a native of Aiken County, was a retired chalk bagger with Huber Clay Co. and had been a member of St. Phillips Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Schofield Hazel; four daughters, Margaret Hazel Curry, Dinah Hazel Elmore, Takeshi Hazel Holley and Aretha Williams Bullock; four brothers, John S. Hazel, Calvin Hazel, Paul Hazel and James Hazel; two sisters, Sarah Cushman and Gracie Bell Johnson; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of his family.

Friends may call at the residence or from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Miller's Funeral Home.

Mr. George Milner Jr.

Retired business owner

AIKEN -- Mr. George Ashford Milner Jr., 79, of 1590 Dibble Road, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Tucker-Dowdy Nursing Center, Columbia.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, with the Revs. E. Michael Rowell, Howard M. Hickey and Mellie Hickey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Milner, a native of Blackville, was the retired owner of Milner Super Gas Inc. and Milner Trucking of Petroleum products. He served on the Board of Motor Transportation Association of South Carolina and was a volunteer fireman. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the 2nd Armored Division. He received the Bronze Star for exceptional valor during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, IPTAY Clemson and a founding member of Whiskey Road Fox Hounds. He rode with the Aiken Drag Hunt in Hitchcock Woods, was an honorary member of the Aiken Rotary Club and a member of Silverton Agricultural Club.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Gillespie Milner; two sons, Ash Milner III and Richard Gillespie Milner, both of Aiken; one daughter, Kathryn Sarratt Milner, Aiken; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Vision Fund of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, 125 Pendleton St. S.W., Aiken, SC 29801; or The CSRA Alliance for the Mentally Ill, c/o Hazel Campbell, 1509, Brookhaven Drive, Aiken, SC 29803.

The family will receive friends after the funeral in the Stevenson McClelland Building.

Shellhouse Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carl Mixon

Air Force retiree

PLYMOUTH, N.C. -- Mr. Carl Mixon, 73, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Plumblee Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Nails Creek Baptist Church, Bartow, Ga.

Mr. Mixon, a native of Bartow, was retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant and was a veteran of World War II. He was a rehabilitation therapist with Central State Hospital, Milledgeville, and a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Ivan Mixon, Plymouth.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville, Ga.

Mr. Lloyd Mode

Federal Paperboard retiree

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. Lloyd ``Sam'' Mode, 66, of 315 W. Spring Grove Ave., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, in Augusta.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary C. Redding and Mark Powers officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mode, a native of Shelby, N.C., was retired from Federal Paperboard and was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, where he served as a torpedoman's mate on the U.S.S. Pickerel. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta and Hickory Knob State Park Golf Club.

The family said he was a wonderful husband, father, paw paw, brother and loved everybody and was loved in return. He was a friend to all and liked to be the giver not the receiver.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Mode; two sons, L. David Mode, North Augusta, and Tracy S. Mode, Belvedere; one sister, Geri Hamrick, North Augusta; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Al Holloway, Larry Baynham, Tony Hallman, Vince Cloud, Johnny Scott and Mil Hamrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers at Federal Paperboard.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903; or First Baptist Church of North Augusta, Building Fund, 602 Georgia Ave., North Augusta, SC 29841.

Mr. John Oliver Sr.

Retired painter

Mr. John Henry ``Bull'' Oliver Sr., 87, of 1223 Kent St., died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. J. C. Trowell officiating.

Mr. Oliver, a native of Aiken, was a retired painter and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Mount Harris Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, John W. Oliver; one daughter, Geneva Oliver, New York; one brother, Leon Oliver, Aiken; one sister, Frencis Green, Decatur, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Perry, a native of Sardis, was a homemaker and a member of Wades Baptist Church and Sylvania Garden Club. She had attended Andrew College, Cuthbert.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Ann Fowler, Steinhatchee, Fla., and Judy Mae Jones, Atlanta; four brothers, G.C. ``Bill'' Parker and Heyward ``Pete'' Perk, both of Waynesboro, Anthony ``Tony'' Parker, Dudley, N.C., and Delcom Hobson ``Bo'' Parker, Sylvania; two sisters, Ruth Braxton, Milledgeville, and Jackie Wilson, Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be D.H. ``Bo'' Parker, Leland C. Jones, Hobson Parker, Anthony ``Tony'' Parker, R.Dean Fowler and James Hill.

Mr. Pete Rathbone

BLYTHE, Ga. -- Mr. Pete Rathbone, 72, of Deans Bridge Road, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Jefferson County Hospital, Louisville.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, Augusta, with the Revs. Paul Moore and Bucky Halford officiating. Burial will be in Grovetown Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Rathbone, a native of Tignall, was retired from the Georgia State Highway Department as a machine operator and was a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas ``Bo'' Rathbone, Blythe, Cheyenne Rathbone, Williston, S.C., and Michael Rathbone, Augusta; three daughters, Shirley Abbott and Diane Jackson, both of Grovetown, and Alice Coxwell, Wrens; one sister, Betty Rathbone, Blythe, and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sims, John Galloway, Clifford Chancey, Billy Coxwell, Calton A. Newman and Dewey Dietzel officiating.

Mrs. Idella Robinson

ESTILL, S.C. -- Mrs. Idella W. Robinson, 78, of 269 Liberty St. N., died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at The New Sweet Rock Holiness Church with the Revs. B.J. Sanders, Dan Sanders, Martha Green, Julia Robinson, J. Miller, L. Williams, Beatrice Mims and Francis Nix and Betty Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Lena.

Mrs. Robinson, a native of Hampton County, was a member Mount Sinai Holiness Church, Fairfax, where she served as a leader, missionary and mother of communion. She was pastor of Sweet Rock Holy Church and St. Mary's Holy Church, Rincon, Ga.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Robinson, New York; five daughters, Julia Robinson and Delorise Robinson, both of Estill, Carolyn Mincy, Atlanta, Viola Hankerson, New York, and Dorothy Myers, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruth Thomas

Mrs. Ruth Ball Thomas, 78, of Martinez, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Thomas L. King Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward T. Reckner officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mrs. Thomas, a native of Newport, Tenn., had retired from Sibley Mill and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy and the Humana Senior Friends.

Survivors include her husband, Wade B. Thomas; three daughters, Louise Reckner, Martinsburg, W.Va., Mildred Huitt, Augusta, and Carolyn Swetman, Martinez; two brothers, Donald Ball, Bybee, Tenn., and Ray Ball, Delrio, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Eric Froebel, Tadpole Huitt, Donnie Redfern, Willie Wilkey, Eddie Reckner, Billy Huitt, Jimmy Carter and Dennis Huitt.
