EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mr. John J. Smith, 74, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, in Adams Run.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Red Oak Grove Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Hancock officiating.

Mr. Smith, a native of Lincoln County, had retired as a logger and was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Smith, Aiken; two daughters, Linda Meredith and Wanda Herron, both of Aiken; two brothers, Harold Smith, Modoc, and Alford Smith, Swansea; six sisters, Lena Turner, Myrtle Beach, Marian Morrow, DuckTown, Tenn., Workman Riley, Edgefield, Edna Clark, Greenwood, Ruth Galloway, Adams Run, and Joyce Insley, Langley; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruby Sparks

BROOKLET, Ga. -- Mrs. Ruby Jones Sparks, 94, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Joiner-Shepard Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Alford officiating. Burial will be in Brooklet City Cemetery.

Mrs. Sparks was a member of Brooklet First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Ethel Smith Ladies Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one son, Arthur Sparks, Statesboro; two daughters, Dolores Zumstein, Marblehead, Mass., and Nora Minick, Brooklet; and 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Louis A. Zumstein, Bryan C. Sparks, Randy Minick, Leslie N. Sparks, Robert G. Cook and Virgil McElveen.

Memorials may be made to Brooklet First Baptist Church Building Fund, 109 W. Lane St., Brooklet, GA 30415.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Vessy Swint

Truck driver

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Vessy Swint, 92, of 262 Keg Creek Lane, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bold Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Lindra Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Swint, a native of Washington County, was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Smith Swint, Hollywood, Fla.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Talbert

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. John Nixon Talbert, 83, of 815 Lake Ave., died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rowland Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmy Coyle and L.H. Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Talbert, a native of McCormick County, had retired as a postal clerk and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer and was a member of Kicklighter Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Louise McDaniel Talbert; two daughters, Vicky T. Bedell, North Augusta, and Pamela T. Brantham, Augusta; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roswell McRae, Branon Mitchell, Jimmie Strom, John McRae, Peter M. Jones and Fred Swindell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kicklighter Sunday School Class and deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904; or to Immanuel Baptist Church, 615 Old Edgefield Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.

Friends may call at the residence.

Mrs. Lora Turner

TWIN CITY, Ga. -- Mrs. Lora Mae Turner, 88, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Meadows Regional Medical Center, Vidalia.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church with Tommy Rountree and Arthur Walden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Turner, a native of Emanuel County, was a homemaker and a member of Vidalia Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Betty Joyce Finley, Claremore, Okla.; two sisters, Genera Heron and Mary Myrtle Scott, both of Twin City; and two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George Robert Rountree, Emmitt Rountree, Don Rountree, David Rountree and Tommy Rountree.

Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary, Swainsboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reeta Watson

Homemaker

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Reeta C. Watson, 91, of 281 Cab Road, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Screven County Hospital.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Lawton Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. H. Loyd Watson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lawton Cemetery.

Mrs. Watson, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker and a member of Lawton Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel Willis ``D.W.'' Watson and Joseph Charles Watson, both of Sylvania, and James Watson, Savannah; three daughters, Margaret R. Lee and Emma Jean Watson, both of Philadelphia, and Josie Watson, Savannah; and 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Lawton Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Harry Wesse Sr.

Marine Corps veteran

SAVANNAH -- Mr. Harry Reynard Wesse Sr., 75, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors.

Mr. Wesse, a native of Hibbing, Minn., was a Marine Corps veteran and had been the owner of Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Fargo-Moorhead, Minn., and a liquor salesman with State Wholesalers, Augusta. He was a member of the American Legion Post 205, where he had been a commander, and a member of the Forty-8. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include five sons, Jerry M. Wesse, Savannah, Mike Wesse and Harry Wesse Jr., both of Augusta, Charles Wesse, Atlanta, and Tommy Wesse, Davie, Fla.; one daughter, Michelle D. Wesse, Flagler Beach, Fla.; one sister, Corrine McKenzie, St. Paul, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 5105 Paulsen St., Suite C-236, Savannah, GA 31405.

Mr. John Wolfinger

Air Force retiree

Mr. John Fredrick Wolfinger, 75, of 947 Hunting Horn Way, Evans, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Forrest Lake Health Care.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road, with the Rev. Jacob B. Berlin officiating.

Mr. Wolfinger, a native of Millbrook, N.Y., had retired from the Air Force as a chief master sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean War, where he was awarded the Croix De Guerre. He was a Protestant and trained hunting and jumping horses and taught people to ride.

The family said he has been described as a fixture in the Aiken horse community and was respected by all for his knowledge and dedication.

Survivors include two sons, Peter A. Wolfinger, Evans, and Michael A. Wolfinger, Albany, Ga.; one sister, Dorothy Atkins, New York; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ms. Harriet Wright

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Ms. Harriet Wright, 72, of 6028 Burton's Ferry Highway, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Roosevelt Bryant Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Burton's Ferry Cemetery.

Ms. Wright, a native of Screven County, was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Shorty Wright Sr., Sylvania; and one sister, Mazie Abraham, Sylvania.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Booker T. Scott Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Beasley, a native of Langley, was a homemaker and a member of Langley Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Beasley, North Augusta, and Wayne Beasley, Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Virginia Johnson, Trenton, Jeannette Tischler, Graniteville, and Hazel Ready, Ridge Spring; and 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Toole, Michael Beasley, Gerald Toole, Michael Toole, Ted Ready and Terry Carter.

Friends may call at the residence of Billy Beasley, 105 Lee St., North Augusta.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
