Mrs. Avis Bledsoe

ATLANTA -- Mrs. Avis E. Brownlee Bledsoe died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, Stone Mountain, with the Rev. Gordon Pittard officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Wesley D. Brownlee, Augusta; and seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Mr. James Boatright

Retired farmer

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. James Osborn Boatright, 81, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Statesboro.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church with Tommy Rountree, elder, and the Revs. Louis Pearce and Cail Pressey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Boatright, a native of Emanuel County, was a retired farmer and a member of Hawhammock Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie Lou Boatright; one stepdaughter, Bobbie Faircloth, Macon; two sisters, Nan Dora Kemp and Mary Lena Boatright, both of Swainsboro; and seven stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Hadden, Jimmy Hadden, Johnny Hadden, Ronald Boatright, Ivey Boatright, John Edward Boatright, Andy Boatright and Algie Boatright.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary.

Mr. Edward Butler

Retired Delta Airlines pilot

Mr. Edward Daniell Butler, 75, of Forrest Lake Healthcare, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday, May 16, at First Baptist Church of Augusta with the Rev. Jacob Malone officiating.

Mr. Butler, a native of Fort Monroe, Va., was a retired pilot with Delta Airlines and an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, where he was a B-17 Pilot. He was a Mason and a member of the Alkawa Unit of Atlanta Yaarab Shrine Temple.

The family said he was a good, honest, hard-working man whose passions were flying and family. He was loved and respected. His death is a great loss.

Survivors include two daughters, Ginger B. McMichael and Kathleen B. Anderson; one brother, William O. Butler Jr.; one sister, Anne B. Kreuzer; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Parkison Disease Association.

Mrs. Evelyn Coleman

Retired hairdresser

KITE, Ga. -- Mrs. Evelyn Mixon Coleman, 83, of May 8, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Powell's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman was a retired hairdresser and a member of Powell's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Emory Kindon, Billy Mixon, Hayward Orr, William Josey, Windom Josey, John Mixon, Sammy Lee, Allen Frost and Anthony Frost.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tomlinson Funeral Home, Swainsboro.

Mrs. Evelyn Corbett

Retired hairdresser

GLOVERVILLE -- Mrs. Evelyn Busbee Corbett, 72, of 1 Medlock St., died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Langley Pentecostal Holiness Church, Langley, with the Rev. John Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mrs. Corbett, a native of Aiken, had retired as owner and operator of Corbett's Grocery and as a hairdresser. She was a charter member of Langley Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two sons, Freddie Corbett Sr. and Bill Corbett, both of Gloverville; three daughters, Donette Deans, Langley, Patsy Stephens, North Augusta, and Rhonda Felder, South Point Vedra Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Felix Lawton Busbee Jr., Langley, and Raymond Busbee, Athens, Ga.; four sisters, Margie Myers and Betty Ingle, Langley, Thelma Hughes, Beech Island, and Rachel Strang, Hereford, Arizona; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Sanders, Walter Busbee, Howard Seigler, Keith Willis, Johnny Spires, Mike Boone, Wayne Spires and William Crisco.

Memorials may be made to Langley Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 326, Langley, SC 29834.

Friends may call at the residence of Donette Dean, 155 Wayland St., Warrenville.

Mr. Holland, a native of Burke County, was a retired trainman with Southern Railroad and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Marion Holland and Johnny Holland, both of Summerville, S.C., and Billy Holland, Millen; one daughter, Cookie Royal, Sardis; one stepson, Melburn Kelly, Ridgeland, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Elsie Kelly and Betty Mixon, both of Statesboro; three brothers, James Holland, Sardis, Jerry Holland, Pooler, and Shine Holland, Rincon; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven Rost, Richard Holland, Douglas Holland, Tommy Holland, Telly Holland and Bill Holland.

Mrs. Willie Jackson

Mrs. Jackson, a native of Johnson County, was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include four sons, Loy Jackson, Hendersonville, Tenn., Ovid Jackson, Wrightsville, Frank Jackson, Warner Robins, and Leland Jackson, Mississippi; three daughters, Joyce Sullivan and Janice McAfee, both of Wrightsville, and Joan Burch, Midville; two brothers, Keith Ivey, Charleston, S.C., and Bryant Ivey, Hiawassee; four sisters, Mary Lou Garnto, Virgiree Brantley and Avis Walker, all of Wrightsville, and Fannie Maude Brantley, Jeffersonville; and 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hal Bray, Jeff Jackson, Douglas Jackson, Jerrell Jackson, John McAfee, Bart Hall, Trampas Jackson and Eric Jackson.

Mr. Clifford Jordan

Marine Corps retiree

Mr. Clifford Jordan, 59, of 1803 Valley Park East, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Good Samaritan Baptist Church, Columbia County, with the Rev. Robert W. Turner officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mr. Jordan, a native of Wagener, had retired from the Marine Corps as a corporal and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Bauhmanville Baptist Church.

The family said he was quiet but that he touched the lives of his family and many others with whom he came in contact.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Freeman Jordan; one daughter, Nonie S. Jordan, Augusta; one stepson, Anthony Freeman, Augusta; two stepdaughters, Rochelle Freeman and Charlotte Freeman, both of Augusta; one brother, Vaughn Jordan, Washington; three sisters, Loretta Jordan, Adelphi, Md., Rosa J. Daniels, Forestville, and Shirley Stanton, Washington; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Lon Knight

Retired Baptist minister

JOHNSTON, S.C. -- The Rev. Lon Bishop Knight, 89, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Edgefield County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Lowell Clark, Charles Hattaway and Thomas Barwick officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, Eatonton, Ga.

The Rev. Knight, a native of Laurens County, Ga., was a retired minister with Rehoboth Baptist Church, Peace Haven Baptist Church, Ward Baptist Church and Johnston First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and received degrees from Mercer University and Andover Newton Seminary, Boston. He was first ordained as a minister by First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, Ga. He served on the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and was a former trustee of Bethea Home for the Aged of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. He was a member of Kadosh Lodge No. 181.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline Hooten Knight; one son, Lon B. Knight Jr., Greenville; one daughter, Caroline Knight Voyles, Greensboro, Ga.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Johnston First Baptist Church or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, Greenwood.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bland Funeral Home.
