Mr. Walter Powell

Mr. Walter ``Dub'' Powell, 81, of 756 Oxford Drive, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert F. Hunt officiating.

Mr. Powell, a native of Saluda, S.C., was in the civilian personnel service at Fort Gordon.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Forest Hills Golf Association, Seniors Golf Association, Order of the Purple Heart and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Z. Powell; a daughter, Mary Ann Howard, Stone Mountain; a sister, Minnie Ruth Ackerman, Saluda; and three grandchildren.

Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leon Redd Sr.

Baker, confectioner

Date of announcement: May 29, 1998

Mr. Leon D. Redd Sr., 50, of 524 Berry St., Martinez, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Platt's Funeral Home, Evans, with the Rev. Michael Davenport officiating.

Mr. Redd, a native of Augusta, was a baker and confectioner.

He was a member of the Baker and Confectioner Local Union No. 503.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia ``Melles'' Redd; a son, Leon Dennis Redd Jr., Grovetown; a daughter, Leslie Ann Redd, Martinez; his father, Louis Redd Jr., Augusta; his mother, Ruth Gay Redd, Augusta; his stepmother, Ruth Redd, Augusta; a sister, Gail Cash, Augusta; two stepsisters, Mary Brown, Appling, and Betty Perry, Augusta; and a grandchild.

The funeral will be at from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. F. Hunter Robertson

Retired contractor

Date of announcement: May 29, 1998

HILDA, S.C. -- Mr. F. Hunter Robertson, 89, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Double Pond Baptist Church, Blackville, with the Revs. Richard McDuffie and Donnie Delk officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Robertson, a native of Laurens, had retied as a contractor and farmer.

He was a member of Hilda Masonic Lodge and Double Pond Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.

He was a former member of the Blackville School Board No. 19.

Survivors include a stepson, A.C. ``Sonny'' Burnett, Hilda; two sisters, Lucille Robertson, Spartanburg, and Bell Robertson, Laurens; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tim McCormick, Roy Martin, Charlie McCormick, Freeman Nettles, Terrell Dyches, David Gunnells, Herman Lloyd Black and Pat Black.

Mole Funeral Home, Barnwell, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Stephens Jr.

Retired forklift driver

WRENS, Ga. -- Mr. John Henry Stephens Jr., 67, of 610 King St., died Tuesday, May 26, 1998.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Wrens Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ella Mae Smiley officiating.

Burial will be in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Stephens, a native of Jefferson County, had retired as a forklift driver.

He was a member of Gibraltar Lodge No. 265 and Wrens Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Lamb, Wrens; a sister, Verd Alice ``Philula'' Stephens, Wrens; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Hales, Ken Arrington, James Arrington, Wallace Beasley, Joe Brantley and Walter Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gibraltar Lodge No. 265.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Etta Trotter

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Etta Nora Trotter, 87, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at her residence following an extended illness.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Trinity Assembly of God, with the Revs. Jimmy Sumner and Kenneth Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Trotter, a lifelong resident of Johnson County, was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Bolding, Montgomery, Ala., Carlene Musselwhite, Wrightsville, and Gloria Cromer, Ellaville; a sister, Adell Haddock, Wrightsville; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ben Burke, Ken Burke, Jim Musselwhite, Wade Trotter, Steven Trotter and Chris Jalbert.

Richard & Joyce Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aileen Stone

Mrs. Aileen Lee Stone, 86, of 338 Heath Drive, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Windermere Nursing Home.

Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stone, a native of Florence, S.C., was a homemaker and a member of National Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Evelyn Tabb and Wallis Lee Stevens, both of Augusta; a brother, Herbert Lee, Florence; three sisters, Lurline L. Wilson, Florence, Mary Lee Somsett, Wilmington, N.C., and Eloise Zupsich, Sumter, S.C.; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Watkins, Otis Smith, John Hoover, Howard Bailey, Stoney Turnage and Richard Stone.

Memorials may be made to National Hills Baptist Church, 2725 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30909.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Willie Sturgis

Mr. Sturgis, a native of Richmond County, had retired as a baker from Napoli Bakery.

An Army veteran, he was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie C. Sturgis; a son, J.C. Castleberry, Augusta; a daughter, Mary S. Castleberry, Hephzibah; his mother, Mary Scott, Augusta; four brothers, James Sturgis, Odell Scott and James Earl Sturgis, all of Augusta, and Leroy Sturgis, New York; a sister, Billie Ann Walden, Louisville; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Jackson, Willie Lee Sturgis, Willie A. Sturgis II, Marion Donaldson, Patrick Donaldson, Claude Anthony and Keith Simmons.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home.
