BLACKVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Bettye Goode Augustus, 45, of 4338 Legion Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Goode officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell.

Mrs. Augustus, a native of Barnwell County, was a nursing assistant and a member of St. Mary Baptist Church, Barnwell.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Augustus; one son, Derrick Augustus, Blackville; one daughter, Trina L. Augustus, Blackville; her mother, Vangie Lee Goode, Barnwell; five brothers, Donald Goode, Levi Goode, Andre Goode and Joe Goode, all of Barnwell, and James Goode, Beech Island; and two sisters, Annie C. Goode and Mildred G. Jacobs, both of Barnwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be some members of the Barnwell High School Class of 1971 and deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Washington's Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Avery Jr.

Automobile repairman

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mr. John Washington Avery Jr., 50, of 2206 Iveytown Road, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in Elbert County.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Fernandez officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Avery, a native of Jesup, Ga., was an automobile repairman and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Avery, Texas; two daughters, Jackie Avery and Jenny Avery, both of Texas; his mother, Virginia Louise Raley, Lincolnton; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ray Banks, Joe Cooper, Allen Holloway, Ben Scott, Joe Scott and Maurice Spires.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rees Funeral Home.

Mr. James Banks

JOHNSTON, S.C. -- Mr. James ``Jimmy'' Doyle Banks, 58, of 124 Calhoun St., died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Poteet Funeral Home, Wheeler Road, Augusta, with the Revs. Kenneth Duke Sr. and Charles Rosson officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta.

Mr. Banks, a native of Augusta, was owner and pharmacist of Johnston Drug. He was a member of Maranatha Christian Center.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Wiggins Banks; two sons, Lee Carter ``Bo'' Banks and James Christopher ``Chris'' Banks, both of Augusta; one daughter, Jennifer Banks ``Jenny'' Matthews, Charleston; two brothers, Bobby Banks, Augusta, and Johnny Hilliard, Maui, Hawaii; two sisters, Joan Lovingood, Gainesville, Ga., and Annette Norman, Stone Mountain, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gardner Young, John Kerves, Lamar Powell, David Satcher, Alex Rhoades, Frank Boatwright and Reid Batzell.

Friends may call at the residence of Lee Banks, 3514 Preston Trail.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Samuel Benefield

NEW YORK -- Mr. Samuel William Benefield, 82, died Jan. 10, 1998.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wausgrove Baptist Church Cemetery, Stellaville, Ga., with the Rev. Thomas Berry officiating.

Mr. Benefield was a native of Jefferson County, Ga.

Survivors include one son, Philip Benefield, Aiken; and four grandchildren.

EATONTON, Ga. -- Mr. Stephen Troy Burkette, 28, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Screven County Memorial Cemetery, Sylvania, with the Rev. John Waters officiating.

Mr. Burkette, a native of Richmond County, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Sue Ann Lee Cooley, Eatonton; one sister, Christy Johnson, Ridgeland, Va.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.D. Cooley, Fitzgerald; and his maternal grandmother, Mazie C. Lee, Sylvania.

Mrs. Clara Clark

Southern Bell retiree

Mrs. Clara A. Clark, of 2120 Silverdale Road, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at University Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. H.B. Johnston officiating.

Mrs. Clark, a native of Jefferson County, Ga., was retired from Southern Bell as a chief service adviser. She was a member of North Augusta Southern Methodist Church, where she was a member of Crusader's Bible Class and the Women's Missionary Society. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include two nephews, Conrad W. McGahee, Augusta, and George S. McGahee, Dearing.

Memorials may be made to North Augusta Southern Methodist Church, 615 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road.

Mr. Thomas Clyde

Mr. Thomas Edward Clyde, 64, of 3468 Wrightsboro Road, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road, with the Revs. Robert Cook and Oscar Barrow officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Clyde, a native of Augusta, was a clerical worker with Dixie Riverside. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and Senior Friends of Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The family said he was the best, most wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend that anyone could ever have.

Survivors include his wife, Ann P. Clyde; two daughters, Donna Christine Dawkins, Hephzibah, and Rhonda Borst, Augusta; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Saggus, Murl Snellgrove, Mike Palmer, Matthew Darr, Kenny Maddox and Sterling Reese.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Dixie Riverside.

Mrs. Mamie Fulcher

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mamie Fulcher, of 115 Brentwood Drive, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Brentwood Terrace Nursing Facility.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carter's Mortuary with the Rev. J.H. Bush officiating. Burial will be in Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Fulcher, a native of Burke County, was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Kikuko T. Fulcher, Tacoma, Wash.; one nephew, Mose Ellison, Waynesboro; one niece, Daisy Jeffers, Waynesboro; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Geneva Garnett Gilliard, 52, of 3194 McCladdie Drive, Appling, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. S.D. Bing officiating. Burial will be in Second Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gilliard, a native of Columbia, was a presser and a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.

Survivors include her mother, Jennie Garnett, Appling; two brothers, William Henry Garnett and Andrew Nugene Garnett, both of Augusta; and five sisters, Vernice Bullock, Louvenia, Butler, Willie May Hill, Iola Garnett and Gertrude Garnett, all of Appling.

Pallbearers will be her cousins.

Friends may call at the residence or Moore's Funeral Home, Harlem.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Griffin

Army retiree

YORKTOWN, Va. -- Mr. Robert Lynn Griffin, 55, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Amory Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald J. Cavey officiating.

Mr. Griffin, a native of Indianapolis, was retired from the Army as a staff sergeant. He had been an instructional system specialist at Fort Gordon and president of the Augusta Humane Society.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret H. Griffin; two daughters, Beatrice Geraghty, Milwaukee, Wis., and Anita Wilson, Roswell, Ga.; one brother, Joe Griffin, Indianapolis; and one granddaughter.
