Mrs. Minnie Landy

WAGENER -- Mrs. Minnie S. Landy, 95, of 505 Danley Ave., died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Saron Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Guyton officiating. Burial will be in Swedenburg-Gunter Cemetery.

Mrs. Landy, a native of Aiken County, was a homemaker and a member of Chalk Hill Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 375 and Union Progress Society No. 832.

Survivors include 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Lucinda Landy, or after 4 p.m. today at J.H. Robinson's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marion Martin

Mrs. Marion Iris Martin, 86, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Beverly Manor Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. John Courson officiating.

Mrs. Martin, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of First Southern Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Howard E. Martin Jr., Augusta, and Charles G. Martin, Sandy, Ore.; a sister, Frances Winter, Augusta; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Mr. Michael Mitro

Retired colonel

Mr. Michael P. Mitro, 78, of 338 Old Salem Way, Martinez, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 12:15 p.m. today at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity with the Rev. Allan McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Mr. Mitro, a native of Lorain, Ohio, had retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the rank of colonel. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and he was a member of the Retired Officer's Club. He had retired from MARTA of Atlanta as director of program analysis. He was a member of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity.

Survivors include his wife, Helen P. Mitro; three daughters, Barbara Jean Funk, Gilroy, Calif., Judith Kay Anderson, Fairfax, Va., and Kathy Belinski, Augusta; a brother, John Mitro, Lorain; two sisters, Helen Kokinda, Amherst, Ohio, and Mary Lou Lesiecki, Lorain; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of a military honor guard.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, 720 Telfair St., P.O. Box 2446, Augusta, GA 30903.

Mr. James Perkins

Retired farmer

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mr. James Edward Perkins, 79, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Statesboro.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Scarborough officiating. Burial will be in Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Perkins, a native of Screven County, had retired as a farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Bay Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Sasser Perkins; two sons, Mike Perkins, Griffin, and Greg Perkins, Marietta; a sister, Beatrice P. Black, Lompoc, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Beasley, Douglas Zeagler, Ray Parker, Wade Zeagler, Ainsworth Zeagler and Johnnie Jones.

Mr. John Williams

Retired civil servant

GROVETOWN -- Mr. John Sam Williams, 81, of 307 Second Ave., died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Faith Memorial Church, Martinez, with the Rev. Allan Olive officiating. Entombment will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mr. Williams, a native of Millen, had retired from civil service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Faith Memorial Church.

Survivors include his wife, LuBeth Coats Williams; two sons, Jerald Van Williams, Virginia Beach, Va., and John Sam Williams Jr., Hephzibah; three daughters, Julia Etwinda Edenfield, Jelinda LuBeth Milburn and Mary Jane Ward, all of Harlem; a brother, Darvis Williams, Conyers; four sisters, Cleo Covington, Twin City, Christine Hendrix, Savannah, Cornelia Clifton, Sylvania, and Stellese Owens, Boone, N.C.; and 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Van Williams, Shane Williams, Johnny Williams, Billy Edenfield, Jamie Edenfield, Travis Edenfield, Steven Grant, Patrick Grant, Trinity Williams and Zane Ward.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of a military honor guard.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bennie Wideman

S.C. Highway Department retiree

McCORMICK, S.C. -- Mr. Bennie Clifton Wideman, 75, of Route 1, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wideman Family Cemetery with the Revs. Charles Hopkins and Bruce Cooley officiating.

Mr. Wideman, a native of McCormick, had retired from the South Carolina Highway Department as assistant superintendent of the McCormick office after 42 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a military policeman. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ann Ellenberg and Mary Ellen Bentley, both of McCormick; two sisters, Mary Sue White, Abbeville, and Elizabeth Simpson, Columbia; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, Ga.

Mr. Mackley Smith

Military retiree

Mr. Mackley W. Smith, 57, of 119 Carmell Way, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Methodist Central Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Jim Karagas officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith, a native of Batesville, Miss., was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and had retired after 26 years of service. He was a maintenance worker at Maxwell House Apartments. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

His family said Semper Fi.

Survivors include his wife, Maria L. Smith; a son, Anthony Smith, Augusta; a daughter, Dawn Smith, Augusta; two brothers, Allen Smith, Newport Beach, Calif., and Roger Smith, Los Angeles; and a sister, Betty Jean Shelton, Memphis.

Pallbearers will be John Stroup, Don Myers, Al West, Anthony Smith, Jack Jenkins and Thomas Ray.

Friends may call at Poteet Funeral Home, Greene Street.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Walter Morris

MONETTA, S.C. -- Mr. Walter Leon Morris, 82, of 65 Bussey Road, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Ridge Spring Civic Center, Ridge Spring, with the Rev. John Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Dozier Cemetery, Leesville.

Survivors include five sons, Marion Morris and Albert Morris, both of Saluda, Melvin Morris and Johnny Morris, both of Batesburg, and Walter Morris, Ridge Spring; five daughters, Alma Williams, Loretta Boyd and Sarah Gray, all of Monetta, Elise Gantt, Saluda, and Mary Coleman, Ridge Spring; a brother, Elijah Morris, Monetta; a sister, Mary Morris, Virginia; and 36 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring, is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Gertrude Kirkland

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, with the Rev. Terry Newsome officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.

Miss Kirkland, a native of Grovetown, was a homemaker and a member of Greater Augusta Apostolic Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Maude Wright and Alice Shaw, both of Grovetown, and Mary Kitchens, Augusta; and five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Rickerson Jr., Brian Rickerson, Nathan Hayes Jr., Randy Hayes, Glenn Hayes and Nicholas Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Fulmer's Funeral Home, Springfield, with the Rev. J.W. Wise officiating. Burial will be in Christian Hill Cemetery, Salley.

Survivors include his father, Danny Golson Sr., Aiken; his mother, Angello Richardson, Aiken; a brother, David Richardson, Aiken; four sisters, Angel Curry and Ada Richardson, both of Aiken, Stephaun Watson, New Ellenton, and Devine Morrison, Havelock, N.C.; and his grandparents, William Richardson and Gloria Richardson, Aiken, and Louise Golson, Salley.

Pallbearers will be family members.
