Mrs. Fannie Simpkins

BELVEDERE -- Mrs. Fannie Mealing Simpkins, 76, of 534 Celeste Ave., died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Edgefield, with the Rev. Louis T. Coley officiating. Burial will be in Old Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Simpkins, a native of Edgefield County, was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was in the Senior Choir. She was also in the Old Piney Grove Baptist Church Senior Choir.

Survivors include four sons, Willie T. Simpkins, Henry L. Simpkins and Roosevelt Simpkins, all of Belvedere, and J.P. Simpkins Jr., Johnston; seven daughters, Cathy S. Butler and Carrie S. Thomas, Columbus, Ohio, Shirley S. Jenkins and Corine S. Curry, both of North Augusta, Josephine S. Prescott, Aiken, and Gloria Simpkins and Genevieve Simpkins, both of Belvedere; two brothers, John H. Mealing and Chester Mealing, Newark, N.J.; four sisters, Helen Jackson, Mattie Merritt and Rosa Mae Oglesby, Newark, and Polly A. Key, North Augusta; and 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary, North Augusta.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Fred Skidmore Jr.

Retired electrician

APPLING, Ga. -- Mr. Fred Odell Skidmore Jr., 76, of 2600 Dozier Road, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Kiokee Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Drawdy officiating.

Mr. Skidmore, a native of Sand Fork, W.Va., was a retired electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Union Local 24. He served in the Army during World War II. He was also a member of the C.B. Radio Council. He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Skidmore; one son, Elvin B. Skidmore, Appling; one daughter, Sandra McMurdy, Appling; one sister, Geraldine Garrett, Maryland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Starling Funeral Home, Harlem.

Mrs. Susan Smith

Retired textile employee

JOHNSTON, S.C. -- Mrs. Susan Rhoden Smith, 72, of 7 Monument Drive, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bland Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Barwick officiating. Burial will be in Mountain of Olives Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Columbia, was a retired textile employee for Crest Manufacturing. She was a member of Johnston First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and of the Happy Singers. She was a member of Dogwood Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Joe P. Smith; two brothers, Carol Rhoden, Johnston, and Theodore Rhoden, Belvedere; and two sisters, Margaret Livingston, Johnston, and Mabel Whaley, Augusta.

Memorials may be made to Johnston First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m today at the funeral home.

Mr. Steven Vissage

JACKSON -- Mr. Steven Louis Vissage, 48, of 102 Second St., died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla, S.C. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery, Mountain Rest.

Mr. Vissage was a project assistant for the Savannah River Plant. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Troutman Vissage; one daughter, Holly Vissage, Mountain Rest; his mother, Ann Gouveia Vissage Land, Mountain Rest; one brother, Robert W. ``Bob'' Vissage, Seneca; and his stepfather, Bill Land, Mountain Rest.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.

Mr. Hugh Wheeler

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mr. Hugh V. Wheeler, 81, of 202 Greenwood Highway, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saluda Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in West Travis Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wheeler, a native of Saluda County, had retired as the owner of Wheeler Tire Service Inc. He was a graduate of Coyn Electrical College. He was a charter member of the Saluda Civitan Club and an active member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Margaret Miller Wheeler; one son, John Hugh Wheeler; one brother, Dr. Richard F. Wheeler, Clemson; two sisters, Carrie Alice Marsh, Athens, and Alda Rae Carruth, Tryon, N.C., and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 101 N. Calhoun St., Saluda, SC 29138.

Mrs. Bertha White

Mrs. Bertha White, 91, of 3939 Crest Drive, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Idlewild, Idlewild, Mich., with the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Mrs. White, a native of Laurel, Miss., was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, James White, Detroit; four daughters, Geraldine Brown and Delores Maddox, both of Augusta, Nettie Jones and Peggy Jones, both of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

BATH -- Mrs. Anna Marion Givens McElhaney, 78, of 225 Lee Drive, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with the Rev. Frank Barker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mrs. McElhaney, a native of Williston, was a retired licensed practical nurse at the Aiken County Hospital. She was a member of Langley First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mike McElhaney, Bath, and Phil McElhaney, Augusta; one sister, Delores Harmon, Clearwater; one brother, Harold Givens, North Augusta; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Krepps, Troy Nobles, L.C. Jones, Wayne Beard, Carlton Shealy and Wayne Mitchell.

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mr. Milton T. Mims, 37, of 2353-C Augusta Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Revs. John Jordan and Roy D. Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mims was a native of Lincoln County.

Survivors include four brothers, Sammie Paul Mims and Micheal Mims, both of Lincolnton, Willie Talbert, New York, and Robert Mims, Evanston, Ill.; and four sisters, Bobbie Jean Mercier, Lizzie Mercier and Ophelia Searles, all of Lincolnton, and Emily Rappley, Greenwood, S.C.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, with the Rev. Sammy Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Moore, a native of Burke County, was a retired pressman for The Augusta Chronicle. He was a former member of Marks Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Green Moore; one son, Richard A. Moore Jr., North Augusta; two daughters, Debbie Leopard, Beech Island, and Christine McGee, North Augusta; two brothers, Steven Moore, Concord, N.C., and Donnie Moore, Thomson; one sister, Connie Moore Braddock, Augusta; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul McGee, Jonathan Leopard, Charles Hancock, Shawn Anderson, Richard Waters and Harold Bush.

Mrs. Moye, a native of Laurens County, was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James M. Moye; two sons, Sherrod ``Bubba'' W. Bailey Jr. and Andy R. Bailey, both of Dublin; two daughters, Diana Bailey Brantley, Dublin, and Casey R. Moye, Wrightsville; three brothers, Ronnie Curl, Macon, Jack Curl, Rentz, and Brady Curl; one sister, Claudia Curl, Wrightsville; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Brown, Bob Moye, Monty Curl, John Knight, Aaron Devaney and Brad Hall.
