Mr. Wylie Chenault

CRAWFORDVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Wylie Chenault, 79, of 1271 Lexington Road, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Pole Branch Baptist Church, Tignall, with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Chenault, a native of Wilkes County, was a retired railroad worker.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie K. Chenault, Atlanta; one son, Marion Chenault, Atlanta; one daughter, Gloria C. Turner, Crawfordville; his stepmother, Rosa Chenault, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepdaughter, JoAnn Cross, Atlanta; three stepsons, Loaird McCreary and Julian McCreary, both of Atlanta, and William McCreary, Upper Marlboro, Md.; two brothers, Edd Chenault, Decatur, Jessie Chenault Jr., Atlanta; four sisters, Bessie Rowland, Decatur, Levolia Gibson and Annie Lura Williams, both of Washington, Ola L. Moore, Crawfordville; and four grandchildren.

Hughes and Turner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emmie Bennett

Mrs. Emmie Bennett, 100, of Gilbert Manor, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. L.T. Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Mrs. Bennett, a native of Columbia County, was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include two cousins, Roslyn Garnett and Lillian Kenner.

Friends may call at Peoples Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nell Payton

Homemaker

Announcement dated June 27, 1998

Mrs. Nell G. Payton, 76, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at West View Cemetery with the Rev. Anne Wilson officiating.

Mrs. Payton, a native of Hall County, was a homemaker and a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Payton, Mexico, Maine, and Jack Garrison, Glendale, Ariz.; a daughter, Sue South, Evans; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hardigree, Scott Hardigree, Charles Hardigree, Mark Ramirez, Dale Spradlin and Joseph Harris.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 1384 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Mrs. Ernestine Rigdon

Retired lunchroom worker

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Ernestine Brown Rigdon, 71, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Revs. Arthur Foskey and Ray Garren officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Rigdon, a native of Bulloch County, had retired from the Bulloch County school system as a lunchroom worker and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus R. Rigdon; a daughter, Betty R. Campbell, Wrightsville; a brother, Albert Brown, Hephzibah; two sisters, Marblee Hodges, Claxton, and Janie Harvey, Guyton; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bailey, Jim Rawls, Marvin Lamb, Lamar Beckham, Ernest Gibson and Carol Kight.

Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Rowe Sr.

Truck driver

GROVETOWN -- Mr. William T. Rowe Sr., 57, died Thursday, June 25, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road, Martinez, with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Rowe, a native of Evansville, Ind., was a truck driver for Lanspan. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Victory Baptist Church, North Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Roma Rowe; a son, Tommy Rowe, Augusta; two stepsons, Kevin Hubbard and Monte Hubbard, both of Grovetown; two stepdaughters, Anisa Woods, Hephzibah, and Tonia Aguilar, Waynesboro; a brother, Jimmy Rowe, Thomson; and a sister, Susie Montgomery, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Gary Shepard, Ed Arrington, Jorge Aguilar, Chud Fender, Jimmy Meade, Wesley Rowe and Robbie Rowe.

LANGLEY -- Mr. Earnest Lee ``Buster'' Spires, 60, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Funeral services will be private.

Mr. Spires, a native of Lexington County, was a carpenter and a member of the Builders Association. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Lucas Spires; two sons, Ricky Spires, Burnettown, and Earnest Michael ``Mike'' Spires, Gloverville; three daughters, Sheila McPherson, Hephzibah, Karen Phillips, Aiken, and Desiree Spires, Langley; two brothers, Ricky Spires and Steve Spires, both of Gaston; five sisters, Alice Spires, Anne Spires, Brenda Spires, Kathy Spires and Gloria Spires, all of Gloverville; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Indigent Care of Aiken Regional Medical Centers, University Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801.

TIFTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary Nell Edwards Sprouse, 68, of 90 Springhill Drive, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. C.W. Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Sprouse, a native of Thomson, was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Tift General Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Wade T. Sprouse; a son, Wade Thomas Sprouse, Tifton; two daughters, Nancy Sprouse Howard, Atlanta, and Lee Sprouse McCanless, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, C.W. Edwards Jr., Augusta; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jim Todd, J.R. Howell, Jim Dunlap, Coy Tawzer, Larry Crumley and Curtis Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Beacon Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bowen-Donaldson Funeral Home.

Mr. Starks, a native of Aiken County, was a member of Hazel Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Emma Simpkins, Connie Black and Doris Griffin; four brothers, Milledge Starks Jr., Anthony Starks, Joe Starks and Badgre Starks; seven sisters, Eldora Anderson, Marie Sheapherd, Gussie Walker, Gertrude Starks, Ollie Mae Washington, Louise Felder and Eloise Evans; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

AIKEN -- Mr. Ben Trowell, 79, of 2551 Andrew Circle, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Old Rosemary Baptist Church, Montmorenci, with the Rev. Henry Curry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Trowell, a native of Aiken, was the owner of B. & T. Rotor Tilling Service, Hempstead, N.Y. He was a member of Old Rosemary Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board and the trustee board.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Trowell; two brothers, Frank Trowell, Aiken, and Jacob Trowell, Augusta; and a sister, Clyde Trowell, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Friends may call at the residence or after 1 p.m. today at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.

Mr. Charles Payne Sr.

Aiken Welding & Fabricators retiree

LANGLEY -- Mr. Charles A. Payne Sr., 76, of 126 Pelzer St., died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mid-Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Bert Baynham officiating. Burial with will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mr. Payne, a native of Cumming, Ga., had retired from Aiken Welding and Fabricators after 10 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge No. 174 Ancient Free Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Cato Payne; a daughter, Frances Beecher, Langley; a brother, Arlie Payne, Cumming; a sister, Nina Hawkins, Cumming; and seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of Albert Pike Masonic Lodge No. 174.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hatcher Funeral Home.
