Dr. R. Thomas Tebeau

Announcement dated June 28, 1998

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Dr. R. Thomas Tebeau, 84, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Memorial Medical Center, Savannah.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today in Sylvania First United Methodist Church with the Rev. B. Sonny Mason officiating. Burial will be in Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Dr. Tebeau, a native of Effingham County, was a dentist. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was past president of the Sylvania Rotary Club and a director at Farmers and Merchant Bank. He was also a former councilman for the city of Sylvania. He attended Sylvania First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Claude Pinckney Sunday School class.

The family said he was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a friend to all.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Silva Tebeau; two sons, R. Thomas Tebeau Jr., Adel, and John R. Tebeau, Thomson; one daughter, Susan T. McKinney, Dalton; two brothers, Otis Tebeau and Ernest Tebeau, both of Springfield; two sisters, Leighton T. Harden, Springfield, and Sybil T. Adams, Shreveport, La.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Davy Wells, Eddie Reddick, Jim Wilson, Sol Bragg Jr., Bully Blackburn, Chester Flanders, Alex Mills and Wilkes Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be directors of Farmers and Merchant Bank and members of the Claude Pinckney Sunday School class.

Memorials may be made to Sylvania First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 256, Sylvania, GA 30467.

Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Zumbro

Mrs. Mary Ellen Covington Zumbro, 82, of 2540 Common Trace, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, with the Rev. Robert D. Fain officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Mrs. Zumbro was a homemaker and a member of National Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Dr. George Lionel Zumbro Jr.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bruce Smith

Truck driver

GIBSON, Ga. -- Mr. Bruce Smith, 36, of 589 Lamb St., died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Curtis Funeral Home, Thomson, with the Revs. Gary Hillman and Lem Clark officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Madison Memorial Cemetery, Madison.

Mr. Smith, a native of Greene County, was a truck driver for the Vigortone Company.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Smith; one son, Lee Smith, Gibson; two daughters, Crystal Smith and Shelly Smith, both of Gibson; his mother, Ruby Smith, Greensboro; two brothers, Steve Smith, Madison, and Willie G. Smith Jr., Snellville; and one sister, Sandra Dominy, Greensboro.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Usry, Joe Gunby, Tommy Wangness, Jim Pate, Mickey Usry and Dickie English.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnnie Preston

Retired city employee

LANGLEY -- Mr. Johnnie P. Preston, 89, of 124 High St., died Friday, June 26, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Langley Church of God with the Revs. Larry Sluder and Bobby Burkett officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Aiken.

Mr. Preston, a native of Aiken County, was a retired worker with the city of Aiken and a member of Langley Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Kneece Burkett Preston; four sons, Jimmy Preston, Aiken, Ray Preston, Wagener, Harold Burkett, Alabama, and Bobby Burkett, Greenwood; four daughters, Martha P. Lee, Aiken, Sara B. Burgess, Belton, Mary Ellen B. Wells, Gloverville, and Margie B. Pardue, Clearwater; 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charley C. Burgess Jr., Gary Burkett, David Burkett, Phillip Wells, Andy Johnston and Scott Burkett.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Langley Church of God Men's Bible Class.

Friends may call at the residence or at Napier Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martha Miller

Mrs. Martha ``Mattie'' Emily Hamilton Miller, 80, of 4275 Owens Road, Evans, died Friday, June 26, 1998.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Revs. Donald Fishburne and Cynthia Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller, a native of Augusta, was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America of the State of Georgia. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Saint Cecilia Guild.

Survivors include her cousins, James H. Mayes Jr., Alexander Mayes and Marchia Mayes, all of Washington, D.C., Irene Sulkowski, Charleston, S.C., Andrew Doris II, Nashville, Tenn., and Bertha Garrett, Katherine MacKay, Mary Lou Bussey, Marquin Barrett, Maude Doris, Anna Doris, Katherine Woodhurst, Bernard Doris Jr. and Martha Freshley, all of Augusta.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. Cecilia Guild of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds St., Augusta, GA 30901.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m Monday.

Mr. James Hendrix

AIKEN -- Mr. James Todd Hendrix, 36, of 313 Park Ave., S.E., died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at New Covenant Praise Church with the Rev. Sandra Kennedy, the Rev. Terry Butler and Don Baker officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery.

Mr. Hendrix, a native of Athens, Ga., was a journeyman electrician.

Survivors include one son, Justin Bleu Hendrix, Aiken; his father, James Thomas Hendrix, Houston; his mother, Emily Fields Barnhill, Aiken; one brother, Tedd Hendrix, Aiken; and one sister, Kimberly Hull, Houston.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Hall, Jeff Martin, Timothy Smith, Johnny Hendrick and Ricky Key.

Ms. Arzena Gadsden

PHILADELPHIA -- Ms. Arzena Gadsden, 73, of 933 W. Erie Ave., died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in New Hope United Methodist Church, Allendale County, S.C., with the Rev. Eddie C. Williams officiating.

Ms. Gadsden, a native of Allendale County, was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Ulmer, S.C., and Greater Saint Joseph Baptist Church, Philadelphia, where she served on the Usher Board.

Survivors include her cousins, Lillie Mitchell, Philadelphia, and Jannie Lou Brooker, Allendale.

Mrs. Ruby Buckner

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson, with the Rev. Mark Bowen officiating.

Mrs. Buckner was a homemaker and a member of Westview Baptist Church. She was a former volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Survivors include one son, Ronny Norris, Evans; two daughters, Hazel Young, Thomson, and Anne Burgamy, Milledgeville; one sister, Mildred Dixon, Gibson; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lt. Col. "Danne'' Dannemiller

U.S. Army veteran

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Lt. Col. E. McC. ``Danne'' Dannemiller died Tuesday, June 23, 1998.

Services at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., will be held at a later date.

Lt. Col. Dannemiller, a native of San Francisco, was retired from the Army. He served in World War II and the Vietnam War. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., in 1939. He was in the Military Order of the World Wars and the Clan MacLeod Society. He was Protestant.

Survivors include two sons, E.M. ``Ted'' Dannemiller II, Evans, Ga., and M.A. ``Bud'' Dannemiller, Louisville, Ky.; and one daughter, Elizabeth ``Betsy'' Biles, Louisville, Ky.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903, the American Red Cross, 811 12th St., Augusta, GA 30901, or to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Mr. Fred Crawford

Mr. Fred ``Bubba'' Crawford, 60, of 1920 Moore Road, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at the Medical College of Georgia.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Starling-Hatcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Green officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Crawford, a native of Augusta, was employed with the Augusta Public Transit Department. He was Baptist.

Survivors include one nephew, Larry Williamson, Waynesboro; eight nieces, Faye Powell, Betty Solt, Debra Weaver, Katie Adams, Barbara Page, Cora Howard and Patricia McGhee, all of Augusta, and Angie Brown, Blythe.

Mrs. Beasley, a native of Climax, was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
