Jerauld Pieart

Army retiree

Jerauld E. Pieart, 76, of 4053 Burning Tree Lane, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Revs. Ron Hasty and Robert Boyd officiating .

Mr. Pieart, a native of Mitchellville, Iowa, was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War and served as a security guard for Sizemore Security. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Jordan Pieart; one brother, Fred Pieart, Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Barbara Brown, Des Moines, and Frances Bolton, Colfax, Iowa; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Poteet Funeral Home.

Mrs. Laura Rathbone

Homemaker

Mrs. Laura Bell Rathbone, 95, of Augusta, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, in Edmonds, Wash.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Grove Baptist Cemetery, Grovetown, with the Rev. Timothy L. Owings officiating.

Mrs. Rathbone, a native of Wilkes County, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Augusta.

The family said she was a loving ``mama'' to all she met.

Survivors include two grandsons, F.O. Smith and Michael Smith, both of Augusta; one granddaughter, Barbara Shearer, Mill Creek, Wash,; and nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from noon until 3 p.m. Friday at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez.

Mr. Willie Reaves

Self-employed construction worker

ELKO, S.C. -- Mr. Willie Jefferson Reaves, 71, of 180 Church St., died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Union United Methodist Church, Kline, with the Rev. Eddie Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Reaves, a native of Lakeview, was a self-employed construction worker. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Lakeview.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Maurice Reaves, Barnwell, and Thomas Bernard Reaves, Elko; two daughters, Karen Delaine Reaves, Aiken, and Sharen Elaine Reaves, Laurel, Md.; two sisters, Willena Simmons, Hampton, Va., and Shirley Johnson, Philadelphia; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Giles Eady, Maurine Eady, Reggie Eady, John Price, Wayne Price and Spencer Simmons Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jenkins Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Ethel Sanders

Blackville Manufacturing retiree

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mrs. Ethel Baxley Sanders, 78, of 1568 Lebanon Road, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Green Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Leroy Dodson and Timmy Gunnell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sanders, a native of Barnwell County, was retired from Blackville Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Green Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Survivors include four sons, Olin Sanders, Coy Sanders, Hubert Sanders and Norman Sanders, all of Barnwell; one daughter, Sue Gunnells, Barnwell; two brothers, Lewis Claytor Baxley, Tifton, Ga., and Lonnie Baxley Jr., Barnwell; and 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Greenbranch Pentecostal Holiness Church Fund.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Dyches Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joyce Singleton

Mrs. Joyce R. Singleton, 40, of 3054 Hawthorne Drive, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Oscar E. Wells officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Singleton, a native of Augusta, was a former case manager at Richmond-Burke Job Training Authority. She was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and a former member of The Augusta Chorale.

Survivors include two sons, Stuart Anthony and Darius Jarrell Singleton; one daughter, Shalita Nikkia Hurdle; one adopted daughter, Jacqueline D. Dunn; her mother, Lillie Mae Robinson; one brother, Willie Joe Robinson Jr.; 10 sisters, Mary Ann Hawes, Rosa R. Edwards, Jernel R. Flono, Lillie Robinson, Bertha Robinson, Caretha R. Lockhart, Earlene R. Marshall, Loretta R. Greene, Audrey R. Williams and Margaret Denise Robinson; and her maternal grandfather, Joe Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Michael Brown, Steve Bagwell, Greg Smith, Charles Patterson, Nelson Harrison and Bruce Wiley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home.

Mr. Gobe Smith Jr.

Board of Education retiree

Mr. Gobe Smith Jr., 81, of 2625 Helen St., died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Edward J. Stiltz officiating.

Mr. Smith, a native of Newberry, S.C., was retired from the Richmond County Board of Education. He taught at Butler High School and the Academy of Richmond County. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a graduate of Wofford College.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Gobe Smith, Chattanooga, Tenn.; and two sisters, Emily S. Kearse, Olar, S.C., and Betty S. Asserson, Roanoke, Va.

Pallbearers will be Elwyn Beddingfield.

HEPHZIBAH -- Mr. Lonnie Earl ``Les'' Smith Jr., 26, of 3145 Melba Drive, died Tuesday, June 30,1998, at University Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. David Hagen officiating.

Mr. Smith, a native of Ft. Hood, Texas, was a disc jockey at Baja Club and a member of Cliffwood Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his father, Lonnie E. Smith Sr., Hephzibah, his mother, Dorothy G. Smith, Hephzibah; one sister, Mary Ellen Smith, Hephzibah; and his paternal grandmother, Bessie H. Smith, Gastonia, N.C.

Pallbearers will be Jon Gravely, Myk Garren, Eric Johnson, Troy Rogers, Jeremy Bosdell and David Carlisle.
