Wyman M. Landon Sr.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Wyman M. Landon Sr., 55, died June 16.

He was born in Wayne County, Ga., and spent his youth in Augusta, Ga. He lived in Waycross, Ga., for a number of years and moved to Greenville in 1990. He served in the Navy from 1959-63 and was a painter with A.B. Whitley Co.

SURVIVORS: sons, Glen Landon of Greenville, Michael Landon of Meridian, Idaho, Thomas Landon of Douglas, Ga., and Wyman M. Landon Jr. of Greenville; a daughter, Nancy E. Bell of Hanford, Calif.; stepsons, Denver Phillips of Bear Grass, N.C., Danny Phillips of Douglas and Ronnie Landon of Belvoir, N.C.; stepdaughters, Tricia Zitrouser and April Landon, both of Waycross; and a number of grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery.

Lillian W. White

Lillian Ware White, 64, died June 18 at home.

She was born in Reidsville and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church and its Trustee Board, Stewardess Board and Sunday School Department.

SURVIVORS: her husband, John White Jr. of Savannah; a daughter, Patricia Dempsey of Savannah; a son, Kenneth White Sr. of Savannah; a sister, Beulah Biggins of Savannah; a brother, James Ware of Glendale, Md.; nine grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a host of other relatives.

Orie T. Banks

Orie Tendell Banks, 80, died June 19 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Tattnall County. He was a graduate of Glennville High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Dean of Students for the Admiral Faragut Naval Academy Prep School in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he was a member of Bible Learners Sunday School Class and served as an usher.

SURVIVORS: two sisters, Pearlie Fleischman of Augusta and Roberta Strickland of Claxton; several nieces, nephews and several great-nieces.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Temple, burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Martha M. Bruning

Mrs. Martha Mildred Bruning, 79, died June 18 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was a native of Emanuel County and a longtime resident of Savannah. She was a member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Barry Bruning of Savannah and Calvin Bruning of Tyler, Texas; a daughter, Betty Bruning of Savannah; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ruby W. Disharoon

HAZLEHURST -- Mrs. Ruby Wilds Disharoon, 69, died June 18 at Appling County Convalescent Home.

She was a native of Wolf Creek, Tenn., and lived in Jeff Davis County for the past 25 years. She was a Baptist and retired from Hazlehurst Mills. She was the widow of Jesse Disharoon.

SURVIVORS: four sons, Howard Roberts of Douglas, Steve Roberts of Marion, N.C., Bobby Rogers of Pickens, S.C., and Grover Rogers of Easley, S.C.; a daughter, Cathy R. Byrd of Hazlehurst; three stepsons, Donald Disharoon of Beaufort, Ricky Disharoon of Alma and Carol Disharoon of Baxley; five brothers, Hardy Wilds of Travelers Rest, S.C., Jerry D. Wilds of Easley, S.C., Love Wilds of Cornelia, Roy Wilds of Kings, N.C., and Stokley Wilds of Marshall; four sisters, Nancy Riddle of Blacksburg, S.C., Violet Bennett and Ethel Mosley, all of Kings, N.C., and Elizabeth Roberts of Fletcher, N.C.; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Eugene F. "Rex" England, 73, died June 18 at home.

He was a native of Indiana and a member of Rincon Baptist Temple. He was formerly a program director for W.T.O.C. He was a Navy and Air Force veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Christi Boatright of Rincon and Sharon Harrison of Florida; a son, Bobby Harrison of Florida; a stepdaughter, Lois Wilson of Richmond Hill; two stepsons, Charlie Miller Jr. of Midway and Bobby Miller of Savannah; 11 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

ALMA -- Eva Haselden, 89, died June 19.

She was born in Bacon County. She was the a member of Big Creek Baptist Church and the widow of Alton Parker Haselden.

SURVIVORS: five sons, Theron Haselden of Douglas, Roger, Ed, Don and Jones Haselden, all of Alma; three daughters, Mrs. Aruex Cauley of Blackshear, Myrtle Holland of Alma and Jeanie Gaskins of Mershon; two sisters, Inez Boatright of Mershon and Mrs. Trevis Holland of Bristol; 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Jo Ann M. Johnson

SYLVANIA -- Evangelist Jo Ann M. Johnson, 43, died June 17 at home.

She was born in Screven County. She was a home health care worker with Care South Nightingale. She was a member of True Love Tabernacle Deliverance Center, where she was president of the prayer team, a member of the adult choir and served as a Bible Study teacher.

SURVIVORS: a son, Craig L. McCall of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Stephany F. Tisby of Sylvania; a stepdaughter, Undreia Johnson of Augusta; four brothers, Edward, Fred and Lemon McCall, all of Sylvania, and Frank McCall of Jacksonville; four sisters, Gussie Lee McCall of Sylvania, and Lillian, Elouise and Ola McCall, all of Jacksonville; and two grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

WAKE SERVICE: 7-8 p.m. today at Sylvania Funeral Home in Sylvania.

FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Sunday at True Love Tabernacle Deliverance Center, burial in Simmons Branch Cemetery.

RICHMOND HILL -- Rayfield Jones, 73, died June 15.

He was born in Richmond Hill and educated in the Bryan County public schools. He was a construction worker and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

SURVIVORS: five daughters, Racine Jones of Layton, Utah, Connie Jones Hollis of Valdosta, Crystal, Vonda and Raellen Jones, all of South Carolina; three sisters, Sarah Jones Lee of Richmond Hill, Venus Tillman and Dorothy Jones Green, both of New York; a brother, Elijah Jones of Durham, N.C.; his companion, Beatrice Houston of Hinesville; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Mary H. Kicklighter

GLENNVILLE -- Miss Mary H. Kicklighter, 100, died June 16 at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton.

She was born in Fredonia, Ky., and graduated from Tennessee College for girls in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was the widow of Prentice Kicklighter. She was the oldest member of First Christian Church in Glennville, where she served as pianist and organist for more than 50 years and was active in all phases of the church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Mary Ann Fulghum of Garden City; two sons, Edward H. Kicklighter of San Diego and Kerry P. Kicklighter of Townsend.; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Glennville, burial in Glennville City Cemetery.

M. Grady Malphrus

BLUFFTON -- M. Grady Malphrus, 29, died June 17 from injuries in an automobile accident.

He was born in Savannah.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Brandon Malphrus of Iowa and Robbie Stone of Rincon, Ga.; his father, Paul Milton Malphrus of Bluffton; his mother and step-father, Becky A. Scott and Clyde Scott of Hardeeville; a brother, Chad Scott of Hardeeville; and four sisters, Wendy Peavy of Pritchardville, Mandi Brabham and Danielle Scott, both of Hardeeville, and Tiffany D. Malphrus of Macclenny, Fla.

Chester Poole

UVALDA -- Chester Poole, 95, died June 19 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.

He was a native of Burke County and lived in Uvalda for the past 90 years. He served four years in the Marine Corps. He was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of Charolette United Methodist Church, where he was a steward, the oldest member and a member of John Wesley Mens Club.

SURVIVORS; his wife, Penny Poole of Uvalda; a son, Joe C. Poole of Uvalda; two daughters, Betsy Joyce and Mary P. Cason, both of Uvalda; a brother, Oscar Poole of Elijah; sisters, Wynell Smith and Shirley Garner, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Jeanette Emory of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Elizabeth White "Bethel" Royal, 73, died June 18 of Lou Gehrig's disease.

She was a native of Bulloch County and a longtime resident of Pooler. She was a homemaker and a member of Rothwell Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Harvey Royal of Pooler; two sons, Cliff Royal of Hardeeville and Michael Royal of Pooler; a daughter, Gloria Temples of Garden City; three brothers, Alton White of Nevils, Edsel White of Cascade, Va., and J.B. White of Pooler; a sister, Carleen Mahaffey of McDonough; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

HAZLEHURST -- Mrs. Ernestine Wilson Shannon, 80, died June 19 at Coffee Regional Hospital.

She was a native of Wilcox County and lived in Jeff Davis County for the past 19 years, coming from Alma. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a retired cook formerly employed with the Bacon County School System. She was the widow of Oliver Shannon.

SURVIVORS: four daughters, Ruth Crowley and Frances Griffin, both of Alma, Mattie Young of Ambrose, and Lorraine Dykes of Hazlehurst; two sons, Herman Shannon of Middleburg, Fla., and John W. Shannon of Hazlehurst; a sister, Frances King of Jacksonville, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
