George Laffie Futch, 49, died June 26 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Savannah and worked at Laidlaw Transit Co.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Dorothy R. Futch of Savannah; two daughters, Marilee D. and Jacqueline F. Futch, both of Savannah; a son, George L. Futch Jr. of Savannah; two sisters, Ruth Burton and Elaine Robinson, both of Savannah; two brothers, Joshua and Jay Bryant, both of Savannah; and five grandchildren.

Pinkie E. Multino

RICHMOND HILL - Pinkie Ella Multino, 76, died June 28 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Bryan County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was mother of the church, a choir member and a deaconess.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Verdia M. Moore of Richmond Hill; three sons, Marvin T. Lee of Elmira, N.Y., Francis Lee Jr. of Richmond Hill and David L. Multino of Stone Mountain; a sister, Laura Bizzard of Richmond Hill; a brother, Richard Screven of Savannah; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gladys H. Roberts

STRATFORD, Conn. - Gladys Beatrice Hendry Roberts, 61, died June 27 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn.

She was born in Liberty County, Ga., and was an inspector for Lepico Plastics. She was a Methodist and attended New Life Assembly Church in Tremble.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Peter Roberts of Stratford; four sisters, Lula Nelson and Hattie Frasier, both of Hinesville, Ga., Mildred Darling of Jacksonville, Fla., and Julia Wilson of West Point, Miss.; and two brothers, Fred D. Hendry of Germany and J.D. Martin of Colorado.

VISITATION: 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dorchester Funeral Home, Midway, Ga.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove AME Church, Hinesville, burial in the church cemetery.

Queen Holland, 88, died June 27 at Candler Hospital.

She was born in Savannah and was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church and worked in various capacities of the church. She was a labor worker.

Johnie Lester

Johnie Lester, 80, died June 28 at Candler Hospital.

He was a native of Lowndes County and was educated there. He was a longtime resident of Savannah, a retired longshoreman of ILA Local No. 1414 and had worked for Seaboard Railroad for 17 years. He was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church in Hudson Mill. He was a Sunday school superintendent for 45 years, sang in the senior choir and was a member of Prince Hall FAM Pythagoras Lodge No. 11.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, Solister Lester Sr. and Rosa Lester of Benson, N.C.; two sisters, Edna Boykins of Tallahassee, Fla., and Elise Minder of Valdosta; two grandsons, Boris Wiggins of Benson and Solister Lester Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, burial in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

Hazel C. Rogers

LUMBER CITY - Mrs. Hazel Christine Rogers, 84, died June 29 at Jeff Davis Hospital.

She was a native of Jeff Davis County and lived most of her life in Lumber City. She was the widow of John Edward Rogers. She was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Lumber City Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: two sons, John E. Rogers Jr. of Lumber City and L. Roy Rogers of Jesup; a sister, Tina Burch of Decatur; four grandchildren, John A. Rogers III, James A. Rogers, Renee Hofkin and Robyn Clark; and eight great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: will begin at 6 p.m. today at Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.

FUNERAL: 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lumber City Baptist Church, burial in Riverside Cemetery in Telfair County.

BROOKLET - Mary Magdoline Roberts Hendley, 86, died June 28 at Candler Hospital in Savannah.

She was a lifelong resident of Bulloch County, a homemaker and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: her husband, John Hendley of Brooklet; three daughters, Louise Fleming of Metter, Juanita Pagett of Midway and Emma L. Edwards of Garden City; three sons, Dan P. Barton of Atlanta, Edward B. Barton of Denton, Texas, and Joe B. Sills of Brooklet; two sisters, Ida M. Daughtry of Statesboro and Clara L. Sheffield of Sylvania; and 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Samuel "Bubba" Handy Jr., 73, died June 27 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was a native of Savannah, attended Chatham County public schools and was a truck driver.

SURVIVORS: five nieces, Mildred B. Jones, Justine B. Lovett, Rosa B. Glover and Doreatha B. Williams, all of Savannah, and Patricia N. Brown of Delaware; a nephew, Walter Handy of Savannah; and several cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

WALTERBORO, S.C. - Eugene Pershing Breland Sr., 79, died June 29 at Colleton Medical Center.

He was a native of Colleton County and attended Gospel Tabernacle of Apostolic Faith in Cottageville. He retired as a nursing assistant with Colleton Regional Hospital and Oakwood Health Care Center.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Lonice Bennett Breland of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Eugene P. Breland Jr. of Savannah and Michael Mondo of Walterboro; a brother, William P. Breland of Lodge; a sister, Bernice Beverly of Ruffin; and several nieces and nephews.

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Catherine H. Anthony, 84, died June 27 at United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester.

She was born and educated in New York. She lived in Massachusetts and Georgia before settling in Larchmont eight months ago.

SURVIVORS: a son, Frank of Atlanta; two daughters, Francine Nicholas of Larchmont and Catherine Erickson of Savannah; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Beverly O. Leonard

HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Beverly Orem Leonard, 82, died June 27 at home.

She moved to Hilton Head Island from Wilmington, Del., approximately 25 years ago. She was the widow of Robert P. Leonard. She was a member of Sea Pines Country Club and Holy Family Catholic Church.

MEMORIAL MASS: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington.

Interment will be private.

Bernadine M. Turner

Bernadine Marie Turner died June 19.

She was a native of Detroit, graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and completed the novice candidacy for the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She was a graduate of Marygrove College in Detroit with a BFA in art and music. She worked in the field of commercial art and sang as soloist for Carl Helms and his orchestra in Charlotte, N.C., in the 1950s.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Leonard Turner; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Karen Turner and Dr. Stan Turner; and a son, John S. Turner.

Private memorial services were held.

RINCON - Robert J. "Shine" Reddick, 66, died June 29 at home.

He was a native of Screven County and a member of Rincon Baptist Temple. He was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War. He retired from John Mansville Corp.

Reddick of Rincon; two daughters, Becky Hurst and Pam Bevill, both of Rincon; two sons, Robbie Reddick of Rincon and Douglas Haygood of Macon; three sisters, Louise Thomas of Thomasville, Hazel Birdsong of Tyrone and Mary Naramore of Riverdale; four brothers, Milton, O.D. and Marion Reddick, all of Sylvania, and Clifford C. Reddick of Savannah; and four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
