Eula Carroll

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at First Baptist Church of Cleveland for Mrs. Eula Henderson Carroll, 100, of Cleveland.

The Rev. Joe Vernon, Rev. Dennis Turner, Rev. Doug Merck, and Rev. J. T. Tyson officiated. Interment followed in Gateway Memory Park.

Mrs. Carroll died Wednesday, Dec. 6 at a private health care center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Carroll was born in White County the daughter of the late Albert H. and Mary Kytle Henderson. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland.

Survivors include her daughters, Marceline Cook of Tiger, and Jo Brown of Cleveland; grandsons and their wives, Michael and Sandy Cook, Rabun Gap, Barry and Cheryl Cook, Clayton, Alton and Sue Brown, Lawrenceville, Robert and Peggy Brown, Lawrenceville, and Tony and Louise Brown, Cleveland; sister, Lois Mays, Atlanta; brother-in-law, Roscoe Tate, Jekyll Island; adopted daughter, Fifi Turner, Cleveland; nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland was in charge of the arrangements.

Monterree Davenport

Mrs. Monterree Davenport, 90, of Cleveland, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000 at Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Davenport was born in Towns County and had lived in White County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard H. Davenport; son, Arnold Davenport; and great grandson Dustin Inman. She was a memeber of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Towns County.

Survivors include her daughters, Edith Barrett and Edna Stonecypher, both of Cleveland; sons, Calvin Davenport, Duluth, Franklin Davenport, Clarkesville, and Willis Davenport, Cleveland; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 from the Barrett Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Robert Freeman and Rev. Tom Etterlee officiated. Interment followed in Gateway Memorial Park.

Larry Fowler

Mr. Britton Lawrence “Larry” Fowler, 59, of Cleveland died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at Cleveland United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mark Riley and Rev. Leland Bagwell officiated.

Mr. Fowler moved to Cleveland in April 1972 and practiced law here for 28 years. He served in the military on active duty as an Army JAG Officer for five years and served in the United States Army Reserves for 28 years. Mr. Fowler was a graduate of Tifton High School, the University of Georgia, University of Georgia Law School, the United States Army JAG School in Charlottesville, Va.

He was a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Cleveland, American Legion Roy Head Post #16, State Bar of Georgia, Board of Governors, and the American Bar Association. He was married to Jocelyn (Jodie) Bohannon of Tifton. Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Roy Fowler.

He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn (Jodie) Bohannon Fowler, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Meredith Fowler and Matthew Taylor Hoots, Columbus; daughter, Elizabeth Paige Fowler, Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Mary E. Foreman Fowler, Tifton; mother-in-law, Marcelyn Roland Bohannon, Tifton.

Barrett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Goswick

Mr. Charles E. Goswick, 71, of Cleveland died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Goswick was born in Dawson County and lived in Miami, Fla. before moving to Atlanta in 1963 when he founded Georgia Surety Company.

Mr. Goswick was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland. He was the son of the late Henry Grady and Ethel Hammond Goswick.

Survivors include his wife, Betty McGowan Goswick of Cleveland; daughters, Deborah McLaughin, Lawrenceville, and Marsha Smith, Cleveland; son, Michael Hanna, Tallahassee, Fla.; grandchildren, Josh Smith, Cleveland, Kelly McLaughlin and Ryan McLaughlin, both of Lawrenceville; sister, Jessie Cannova, Clarkesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 from the Barrett Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Jeff Hutcheson and Dr. Charles Benz officiated. Interment followed in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland Building Fund, 147 North Main Street, Cleveland, Ga. 30528.

Gary Grunewald

Mr. Gary Lee Grunewald, 43, of Helen died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Mr. Grunewald was born in Topeka, Kansas, and had lived in White County for the past 12 years. He was employed at Maximum Property Services in Lavonia.

Survivors include his parents, Eugene and Charlotte Grunewald of Sautee; sisters, Pamela Miller, Independence, Mo. and Deborah Morley, Waterville, Ohio; a number of nieces and a nephew.

No funeral services will be held.

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland is in charge of final arrangements.

Gladys Harkins

Mrs. Gladys Harkins, 87, of Cleveland, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at Gateway Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Harkins was born in White County were she lived all her life. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carter Harkins. Mrs. Harkins was the daughter of the late Frank and Martha West Allison.

Survivors include daughters, Helen Hood and Faye Turner, both of Cleveland; sons, Billy Harkins and Larry Glenn Harkins, both of Cleveland; sisters, Louise Garmon, Mildred Jarrard, and Catherine McCarter, all of Cleveland; brother, Jack Allison, Doraville; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Carroll Pruitt, Rev. Gary Heffner, and Rev. Wilbur Riding officiated. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jimelle Holtzclaw

Mrs. Jimelle Freeman Holtzclaw, 75, of Cleveland and formerly of Dalton, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Holtzclaw.

She is survived by daughters, Sharon Kennedy of Alabama and Candi Irvene of Florida; sons: Roger Holtzclaw of Mississippi, Eric Holtzclaw of South Carolina and Bill Holtzclaw of Helen; sisters, Julia Freeman of Dalton and Margaret Collins of Morrow; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Lyle officiating. Interment followed in the West Hill Cemetery.

Love Funeral Home of Dalton was in charge of the arrangements.

Nadine Seabolt

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000 at Yellow Creek Baptist Church for Mrs. Nadine Seabolt, 69, of Gainesville.

The Rev. Ricky Stone and Rev. Robert Freeman officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Seabolt died Sunday, Dec. 10 at a private nursing home following an extended illness.

She was born in Dawson County and had lived in Hall County most of her life. She was a daughter of late Erskin and Julia Sosebee Wilson. Mrs. Seabolt was a homemaker and a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. P. Seabolt, and brother, J. C. Wilson.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Linda Seabolt of Gainesville, and Roger and Ann Seabolt, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Don Gilstrap, Gainesville; sister, Austine Warwick, Cleveland; grandchildren, Sherri Butler, Patricia Mize, Shane Seabolt, Brian Seabolt, Steve Seabolt, Michael Seabolt, Kristy Gilstrap, and Tommy Gilstrap; great-grandchildren, Shannon Adams, Jamie Butler, Alyson Butler, Emily Mize, and Mason Seabolt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Yellow Creek Road, Murrayville, Ga. 30564

Charles Teare

Mr. Charles T. Teare, 83, of Cleveland, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 at Lanier Park Hospital following an extended illness.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Chriss of Cleveland; and other relatives including Ronnie Teare, Robertsdale, Ala., Bruce Teare, Pensacola, Fla., Sherry Atkinson, Melbourn, Fla., Michele Hurn, Seaburn, Fla., Kim Griffin, Palm Bay, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

No services were held.

Memorial Park Funeral Home of Gainesville was in charge of the arrangements.

Jeffrey Chase

Jeffrey Chase, 52, of Harwood, Maryland, died January 25, 2001 after an extended illness. He was born on July 14, 1948.

He is survived by his parents, Beatrice Sargent Chase and Robert Chase; wife, Mary Lyn Grantham Chase; son, Matthew Chase; daughter, Melissa Chase; brother, Billy Chase; sister, Cathy Chase; aunt, Mary Lou Ayers of Cleveland.

Services were held on January 28. Mr. Chase was buried in Grantham, N.C.

Jeffrey Chase

Jeffrey Chase, 52, of Harwood, Maryland, died January 25, 2001 after an extended illness. He was born on July 14, 1948.

He is survived by his parents, Beatrice Sargent Chase and Robert Chase; wife, Mary Lyn Grantham Chase; son, Matthew Chase; daughter, Melissa Chase; brother, Billy Chase; sister, Cathy Chase; aunt, Mary Lou Ayers of Cleveland.

Services were held on January 28. Mr. Chase was buried in Grantham, N.C.

Ossie Alexander

Mrs. Ossie “Obie” Alexander, 84, of Cleveland, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Alexander was born in Habersham County, daughter of the late Fred and Ada Black Wike. She was a member of Harvest Christian Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Alexander.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Motes, Athens; son, Donald Alexander, Tallahassee, Florida; sisters, Iva Lee Wike, Tommie Chambers, Freddie Wade, Eddie Jackson, all of Cleveland and Winnie Winter of Gainesville; special friends, Dorothy and Al Bortka, Mt. Dora, Fla.; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Barrett chapel. The Rev. James Jones officiated. Interment followed in Harvest Christian Church cemetery.

Mary Cagle

Mrs. Mary Ethel Cagle, 86, of Cleveland died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at Friendship Health Care Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Cagle was born in White County a daughter of the late Jess and Hassie Crumley Dyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Wilson Cagle; sons, Gerald Lee Cagle, Grover Cagle Jr., Jimmy Cagle and daughter, Betty Joyce Cagle. Mrs. Cagle was a homemaker and a member of Helen Congregational Holiness Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Chastain, Cleveland; brothers, Creed Dyer, Helen; James Dyer, Hiawassee; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Asa Dorsey and Rev. Lanier Martin officiated. Burial followed in Gateway Memory Park.

Jeffrey Chase

Jeffrey Chase, 52, of Harwood, Maryland, died January 25, 2001 after an extended illness. He was born on July 14, 1948.

Hazel Chastain

Mrs. Hazel Love Chastain, 74, of Cleveland died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Chastain was born in Robbinsville, N.C. and had lived most of her life in White County. She was the daughter of the late Arnold D. and Inez Wiggins Alexander. Mrs. Chastain was a homemaker and a member of Union Grove Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chastain; sons, Jimmy Chastain, Nelson Chastain; and step-daughter, Jeanette Parker.

Survivors include her daughters, Malissa C. Helton, Vanessa Steward, both of Cleveland; Marcell Wesson, Sugar Hill, Bonnie Appling, Cornelia; sons, Van Chastain, Helen and Tony Chastain, Cleveland; step-daughter, Lucille Helton, Mt. Airy; sister, Evelyn Patch, Eatonton; brother, Ernest N. Alexander, Eatonton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at Union Grove Holiness Church. The Rev. Paul Flynn and Rev. Ricky Elrod officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
