Greg Garner

Greg Garner of Covington, passed away September 19, 2007 in Covington. Born July 7, 1962 to Jean Bowen Garner and the late Rev. Guy Garner, he was the owner and operator of East Metro Tire Service for 32 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was involved in charity motorcycle rides as well as the March of Dimes. He had a food ministry which supplied food to people in need. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Guy Garner, brother, Jamie Garner, and sister Elizabeth Jane Garner.

Mr. Garner is survived by daughters, Terri Garner of Covington, Kimberly Garner of Newborn, Courtney Garner of Conyers, Autumn Garner of Social Circle; grandchildren, Chastity Garner, C.J. Cobb, Jada Reed; mother, Jean B. Garner of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Jody Drake of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Christi Garner of Marietta; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Garner will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Gavin Moon officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, September 21, 2007 starting at 6:00 PM.

Frank B. Coulon III

Frank B. Coulon, III, of Covington, died October 3, 2007, at the age of 75. Born in Fulton County to the late Frank B., Jr. and Eileen Holleran Coulon, he was retired from Storey Theatres, where he once served as President of United Vendors. Mr. Coulon enjoyed music, photography, and computers. He was an avid reader and wrote books in his spare time. Mr. Coulon also enjoyed writing letters to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, spending time in Florida and traveling to Ohio to work on genealogy. He is preceded in death by his son, Clifford Beiser, grandson, Adam Beiser, and his sister, Jane White.

Mr. Coulon is survived by his wife, Janeth Coulon of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Cenci and Hubert Suber of Villa Rica, Sue and Lloyd McDonald of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy Beiser of Loganville; grandchildren, Gail Beiser, Karen Dean, Burton Crews, Daniel Beiser, Zachary Beiser, Cody McGhee, Bailey McGhee; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Alex Wiggs of Nashville, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Marilyn Coulon of Canton.

A Memorial service for Mr. Coulon will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Rev. Tom Hagood officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan, Friday, October 5, 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Columbia Presbyterian Church, 711 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA, 30030.

Sara L. Allen

Sara L. Allen of Covington, died October 4, 2007, at the age of 73. Born in Newton County to the late Earnest and Jinnie Lou Willard, Mrs. Allen was a homemaker. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Pete Allen of Covington, daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Lynn Allen-Blakenbeker and Bobby Blankenbeker of Cartersville; son, Clifford Keith Allen of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Mark Daniel Allen, Sarah Lynn Byrum, Keri Lynn Wheeler, Brandi Danielle Wheeler, Logan Randle Allen; great-grandchildren, Reese Pirkle, Devontae Wood, Aiden Allen, Emma Pirkle, Kya Wood, Sydney Allen; sisters, Sylvia Rickman of Conyers, Diane Shubert of Covington; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be held Sunday, October 7, 2007, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, 30014, with Rev. Richard Culpepper officiating and entombment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park Memory Chapel Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm.

Willie B. Stapp

Willie B. Stapp, of Mansfield, died peacefully at his home October 5, 2007, at the age of 42. Mr. Stapp was employed with the City of Mansfield and attended The Church at Covington. He loved working in the yard, model cars, fishing, working on lawnmowers and anything that pertained to the outdoors. Mr. Stapp was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Johnson Stapp.

Mr. Stapp is survived by his wife, Darlene Stapp; daughters, Brittany Stapp and Abby Stapp, all of Mansfield; father, Waymon George Stapp, sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Billy Hooper of Social Circle, Marie and Danny Simmons of Monticello; brothers and sisters-in-law, Waymon Stapp, Jessie and Jackie Stapp and Johnny and Wanda Stapp, all of Covington.

Funeral services for Mr. Stapp will be held Sunday, October 7, 2007, 2:00 P.M. at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Floyd St. Chapel, 3134 Floyd St., Covington, with Rev. Gary Day officiating with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for funeral expenses may be made to Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, PO Box 630, Covington, GA 30015, or to the City of Mansfield, PO Box 35, Mansfield, GA, 30055.

Charles "Dick" Schwinne

Charles Dick Schwinne, of Covington, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Schwinne was preceded in death by parents, Charles Albert and Mary Minerva Wiener Schwinne, and wife, Angela Mary Parrish Schwinne. Mr. Schwinne was retired from the United States Air Force after 24 years of service and from the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary after 11 years of service. Mr. Schwinne enjoyed traveling, meeting people, loved Ohio State, and following the Atlanta Braves. Most important, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

Mr. Schwinne is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Larry Newkam of Suwanee, Susan and Mark Zielenske of Covington; son, Paul Schwinne of Peachtree City; six grandchildren, Melissa, Kevin, Lisa, Michael, Allison and Megan; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Neva Schwinne of Stone Mountain; best friend and soul mate, Katherine Pickett; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Schwinne will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington with interment following at Hillandale Memorial Gardens in Lithonia. The family will receive friends Monday, October 8, from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Caldwell & Cowan.

Gary L. Martin

Gary L. Martin, 42, of Oxford, died May 7, 2009. Son of the late Eddie Michael and Mary Marie Swyers Martin, he enjoyed watching wrestling, and being with his friends in the band, “The Ultimate Addiction”. His passion was Harley Davidson motorcycles, working on cars, and his Rottweiler dogs. Most important to him was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Robyn Martin; daughters and son-in-law, Tabitha Fuller of Covington, Amber and Rusty Wyrick of Jackson, KY, Jenna Martin of Oxford; grandchildren, Brooke Burden, Sylar Burden, Nycolas Fuller; sisters, Debbie, Beverly, Shirley, all of MO; brothers, Terry, Eddie, Richard, Donnie, Art, Gene, and Billy.

Funeral Services for Mr. Martin will be held Sunday, May 10, 2009, 11 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, May 9, from 5-8 PM. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Newton County Humane Society, 210 Lower River Rd., Covington, GA 30014, or the Dogwood Rottweiler Club of Metro Atlanta, PO Box 1876, Cumming, GA 30028.

Kimberly Lynn Hood

Mrs. Kimberly Lynn Hood, of Covington, passed away May 9, 2009 at the age of 41. She was a graduate of University of Central Florida and a FFA Alumni. Mrs. Hood enjoyed skating, was an avid reader and loved her family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Pamela Mann.

Mrs. Hood is survived by her husband, Jack Hood, Jr. of Covington.; sons, Drew Hood, Kyle Hood, Adam Hood all of Covington; step-father, Gene Morris; sisters and brothers-in-law, Yvette and Mike Wilson, Missy and Bryan Jacobs, Heather Collins and Frank Lott; brother, John Morris; grandmothers, Paula J. Mann and Dorothy B. King all of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Hood will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, 3:00 P. M. at the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 1:00 until 3:00 P. M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to RCA FFA Chapter, 1064 Culpepper Dr., Conyers, GA 30094, Attn: Kevin Surrette or Nice Matters, Inc., PO Box 1209, Conyers, GA 30012. Kim was very concerned about local youth. Nice Matters, Inc. is a newly created nonprofit organization to honor Kim, and is being designed to promote character development in our community through various programs and activities.

M. Grace Grantham

M. Grace Grantham, of Covington, died May 15, 2009, at Abbey Hospice, at the age of 66. Daughter of the late Junior Elmer Mosher and Margaret Gillespie Henderson, she enjoyed shopping, gardening and crocheting. Mrs. Grantham was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years and 8 months, Ralph Grantham of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Eve and James (Jimmy) McDonel of Monroe; son , Adam Ralph Grantham, Sr. of Covington; grandchildren, Adam Ralph Grantham, Jr., Lewis Joseph Grantham, Elizabeth Margaret Grantham, James Brooks McDonel, William Grantham McDonel, Hannah Elizabeth McDonel; sisters and brother-in-law, Sandy and Bill Tipton of Santa Clara, CA, June Williams of Burlingame, CA; brother, James Mosher of Belmont, CA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service for Mrs. Grantham will be held Sunday, May 17, 4:00 PM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, with Rev. W.A. Childers officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd, Sunday, May 17, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM.

CLARA DENNIS

Clara McCurdy Dennis, 97, of Fort Payne, Ala., died Dec. 23 in Crossville, Ala. She was a member of the Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents Blaine and Julie Rebecca Lacy McCurdy; husband Floyd C. Dennis; son Bill Dennis; daughter Dora Estill; brothers Joe, Mack and Brown McCurdy, Lee Wilburn; and sister Betty Day. Survivors include son Lanor Dennis, Henagar, Ala.; sisters Mildred Hulgan, Fort Payne, Ala., Jean Stephens, Valley Head, Ala.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Funerals services were held Monday in Kerby Chapel with Rev. Larry Haynes officiating. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home, Henagar, Ala.

JUANITA FOSTER

Juanita Tinker Foster, 84, of Wildwood died Dec. 23. She was a member of the Hooker Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by husband R.C. Foster, daughter Mary Ann Lowery and son Stoney Foster. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Jimmy Price, Wildwood; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Diane Foster, Wildwood; son-in-law Tommy Lowery, Wildwood; sisters Betty Carter and Evelyn Miller, both of Trenton; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with minister Frank Parker and Wayne Miller and Lamar Hulvey officiating. Interment was in Hooker Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Preaching the Gospel, in care of James Watkins, P.O. Box 1484, Dalton, Ga., 30722. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.

CHARLES GILLEY

Charles Edward Gilley, 60, died Dec. 24 in Nashville V.A. Hospital. He operated an auto body shop in Trenton for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He was preceded in death by parents Jim and Hazel Gilley and brother Bennie Gilley. Survivors include brothers Jimmy Gilley, Jacksonville, Fla., Glenn Gilley, Rising Fawn and George Gilley, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at the graveside in Brown's Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Bradford officiating. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.

VIRGINIA KOGER

Virginia A. Britt Koger, 71, of Ider, Ala. died Dec. 20 in Huntsville. She was preceded in death by parents Claude and Myrtle Britt; husband Acae Dug Koger; granddaughter Misty Ivey and grandson Chad Koger. Survivors include daughters Rhonda Wicks, Rita Tilley; daughters and son-in-laws Sharon and Bill Graben, Kylia and Jeff Cox, Robin and Greg Godwin all of Trenton; son Wayne Koger of Ider; sisters Mary Blevins, Barbara Jones, Brenda Chapman, Janice Shrader, and Joan Hardman; brothers Hugo and C. A. Britt; 13 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 23 in Kerby Chapel with the Rev. Arland Weldon officiating. Interment was in Fuller Cemetery in Ider. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

JERRY LEDBETTER

Jerry Thomas Ledbetter, 65, of Flat Rock, Ala., died Dec. 24. He was a retired carpenter and a lifelong resident of Sand Mountain. He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Lucy Ledbetter, brothers Paul Wilmon and John Wilmon; sisters Alice Elliott and Magaline Wilbanks. Survivors include wife Betty Ledbetter; sons Thomas Ledbetter, Bryant, Ala., Kenneth Ledbetter, Flat Rock, Ala., Jerry Ledbetter, Millington, Tenn.; daughters Bonita Lance and Nicole Politt, Canton, Ill., Rhonda Ledbetter, Millington, Tenn.; step-daughters Brenda Dunn and Ruby Hawkins, Flat Rock., Ala., Wilma Smith, Pisgah, Ala., Kim Bellomy, Scottsboro, Ala.; brothers Murphy Ledbetter, Bryant, Ala., Emmett Ledbetter Jr., Glassford, Ill.; sisters Jimmie Evans, Bryant, Ala., Olene Baker, Owens Crossroads, Ala., Dolly Dykes, Springfield, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funerals services were held Tuesday in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Winters officiating. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home, Bryant, Ala.

Chester C. Monroe, 92, of Henagar died Dec. 20 in Huntsville. He was preceded in death by parents Jessie and Susie Rooks Monroe, wife Ina Richey Monroe and brother Charles Edward Monroe. Survivors include daughters Damaris Williamson of Henagar and Donnia Monroe of Huntsville; daughter and son-in-law Mildred and Wendell Dawson of Henagar; brothers Gene Ladon Monroe and David Monroe both of Fyffe, Jessie Lynn Monroe of West Virginia; sisters Dessie Portwood of Chattanooga and Idel Runyon of Georgia; four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 22 in Kerby Chapel. Interment was in Green Haven Memorial. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.
