Mr. Milton P. Smith
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Milton P. Smith, 90, widower of Mrs. Corry Neal Smith, of Edgar Circle, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services her held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Billy Nimmons officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Columbia County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from the Thomas Mercantile. He was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, where he served on board the U.S.S. Wasp under the command of Franklin Roosevelt's son, John.

He was preceded in death by Mrs. Marie Todd Smith and Mrs. Corry Neal Smith.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Sara Hughes, Thomson; two nieces, Margaret Fitzgerald, Appling and Betty Adams, Canton; a nephew, Jack Smith, Florida; five loyal and devoted caregivers, Bobbie Jean, Pat, Vickie, Betty, and Johnny; four step-grandchildren, Sandra A. Hughes, Linda Hughes, Martha Singletary and Leon Millholland, Jr.; six step-great grandchildren, Cameron Millholland, Reagan Millholland, Caleb Clauson Hughes, Andrew Singletary, Sara Blackmon Hughes and Grace Blackmon Hughes.

Pallbearers were Caleb Clauson Hughes, John Fitzgerald, Robert Mayo, Jim Blackmon, Don Clauson and Ty Adams.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pansy C. Pierce
Retired Schoolteacher
WARRENTON, Ga. - Mrs. Pansy C. Pierce, 88, beloved wife of the late Harry L. Pierce, of Brown Circle, entered into rest Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at Austinwoods Health Care Center in Austin Town, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Lowe Funeral Home, with Rev Mark Winstead officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson.

Mrs. Pierce was a native of Warren, Ohio but was a resident of Warrenton, Ga. for 27 years. She graduated from Hiram College and attended Duke University and retired after 33 years of service as a schoolteacher in Leavittsburg, OH. She attended First Baptist Church, Warrenton where she was a member and taught the Laura Lee Adult Ladies Sunday School class.

Survivors include one son, Larry D. Pierce of Olathe, Kansas; two daughters Kerry Fox, Boneville. and April L. Riggs, Berlin Center, OH; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Lee Pierce.

If desired, memorials may be made to McDuffie County Friends of the Animals, P O Box 602, Dearing Ga., 30808 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Louise Hadden, 701 E Main St, Warrenton Ga., 30828.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Helen Prusak White
Homemaker
DEARING, Ga. - Entered into rest at her residence on Jan. 10, 2004, Mrs. Helen Prusak White, wife of the late Allen White of Dearing.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Annette Balmer and husband, James of Dearing; two granddaughters, Linda Ivie of North Augusta, S.C., Lisa Eden of North Augusta, S.C.; two great-granddaughters, Jessica Smith and husband, Allen of North Augusta, S.C., Summer Ivie of Statesboro; two great-great-grandchildren, Shayne and Peyton Smith of North Augusta, S.C.; several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral service.

Mrs. Juanita Williams Lepard
GROVETOWN, Ga.- Mrs. Juanita Williams Lepard, entered rest Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Mrs. Lepard, a native of Jefferson County and spent her adult life in Richmond County. Mrs. Lepard was a retired clerk from Johnson Controls.

After retirement she was a loving wife to husband, Richard L. Lepard, devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. She attended Hephzibah Baptist Church and lately Powell Baptist Church in Columbia County.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, 2 p.m., at Hephzibah Baptist Church with Rev. John Beck and Rev Randall Whitaker officiating. Burial was at Hephzibah Vance Cemetery.

Mrs. Lepard is preceded in death by her brother Eugene Williams.

Survivors include her beloved husband Richard L. Lepard, of Grovetown; son Richard L. Villnave, Texas City, Texas, Daughter, Jan M. Rinker Martinez; step-sons, Richard A. Lepard of Thomson, Donald E. Lepard of Chattanooga, Tenn., step-daughter Bonnie S. Parker of Thomson; Brother Lester Willaims of Hephzibah. Also survived by five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kyle Williams, Donald Lepard, Dave Rinker, Mike Rinker, Richard Lepard and Jacob Lepard.

DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Polly Nora Kitchens
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Polly Nora Kitchens, 77, Wrightsboro Road, N.W., entered into rest Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004.
A daughter of the late John Wesley and Nora Mae Freeman Whitener of Wilkes County, Mrs.Kitchens was a native of Wilkes County, but had lived in Thomson for the past 45 years, was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and a retired employee of Thomson Company.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 from graveside in Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Ga. at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Garvin officiating.

Survivors include two brothers, Henry Whitener, Washington and Lee Whitener, Thomson; two sisters, Doris Burhart, Dearing and Reba Edmonds, Thomson.

Pallbearers were Kim Edmonds, Daniel Whitener, Wesley Whitener, David Land, Buster Holbert and James Richards.

John B. Johnson, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harold Lamar Williams
Retired Carpenter
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Harold Lamar Williams, 63, of 472 Marshall Church Rd., Thomson, Ga., entered into rest Jan. 11, 2004.
He was the son of the late A. Harold Williams and the late Sybil Inez Crook Williams.

Survivors include son Stanley Lamar Williams, Dearing; daughters Cindy Williams Rousey- Dearing, Sheila Williams Prince, Dearing; brother: Donald Williams, Thomson; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Williams; grandchildren Jessica Prince and Erik Prince; and a loving and devoted friend Elizabeth Scott.

Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County . He was retired as a carpenter and a member of Loco Baptist Church, Lincolnton, Ga.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Westview Cemetery with Dr. Don Widener officiating.

Pallbearers were Dean Hughes, Ricky Crook, Johnny Crook, Ricky Brown, Gerald Shirey, and Ronnie Johnson.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Florence Lokey Candler
Retired Telephone Operator
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Florence "Na" Lokey Candler, 92, entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004.
She was the wife of the late Charles Wesley Candler, Sr. and a daughter of the late James F. and Ila Farr Lokey.

Mrs. Candler was a native of McDuffie County, a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church of Thomson, she was active for many years as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, United Methodist Women's leader, a member of OSME Sunday School class and retired as a telephone operator in 1945.

Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. with Dr. George Freeman officiating.

Survivors include one son, Charles Wesley Candler, Jr. and Judy, Thomson; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Young and Mrs. Louise William, Washington; one brother, James Marvin (Bo) Lokey, Thomson; two grandchildren, Charles W. Candler III and wife Candy, Thomson and Jill Candler Russe ll and husband, Hal, Boston, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Henry Russell, Jared Candler Russell, Sydner Kate Candler and Caiden Wesley Candler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Freddie Young, Randy Young, Trey Newton, Alex Newton, Daniel Ansley, Matt Ansley, Dr. Tracy Middlebrooks, Bob Cofer, Mike Bonner and Wayne Ansley.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Thomson First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Thomson, Ga. 30824.

Mrs. Mary Harrell Cone
WARRENTON, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Harrell Cone, age 88, entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at University Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Long Creek Baptist Church, Warrenton with Rev. Grady King officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cone was a lifelong resident of Warren County, born in 1915 to Hollis and Susie Harrell. She was a member of Adult Ladies Sunday School class and Long Creek Baptist Church.

Her beloved husband, Mr. Aubrey Cone, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter Glenda C. Washington, Dearing; her sister Mabel Galloway, Albertville, Ala.; four grandchildren , Robert Jones, Laura J. Redfern, Aubrey Jones, and Christy R. Richardson, and three great-grandchildren., Glyn Thomas, David Jones, and Mike Redfern. Pallbearers were Ray Toulson, Sammy Toulson, Roland Norris, James Johnson, Joe Smallwood and Bennie May.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Long Creek Baptist Church, 2086 Long Creek Church Rd. SW, Warrenton Ga., 30828.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Eliza Mae Paschal Franklin
THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Mae Paschal Franklin, 60, of Thomson, were held Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Dearing, Rev. Sylvester Nabritt, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are husband, Mr. W.J. Franklin, Thomson; two sons, Terry M. Franklin, Warrenton and Tony B. Franklin, Thomson; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie (Idora) Paschal, Dearing; two sisters, Mrs. Doretha (Amos) Searcy, Martinez, and Miss Corine Paschal, Dearing; seven grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Betty L. German
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Betty L. German, 71, entered into rest at her residence on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, beloved wife of Marvin German.
Mrs. German was a lifelong resident of Augusta and had worked for Murray Biscuit Company. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with the rev. H. K. McKnight officiating. Interment at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Family members include one son, Clarence M. German, wife Diane, of Augusta; two daughters, Betty Marie Newman, husband Tony, of Evans; Catherine Ann Boiter, husband Robert, of Dearing; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one uncle, H. V. Weathers of Augusta.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie German.

Mr. William C. Hicks
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mr. William C. Hicks, 80, of 2663 Youngs Mill Road died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at McDuffie Regional Hospital in Thomson.

Mr. Hicks, born Feb. 12, 1923, in LaGrange, was the son of the late Edward Jefferson Sr. and Beulah Barron Hicks. He had lived here most of his life, was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been Electric Authority superintendent for the City of Jacksonville, Fla.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Terri Hicks of Thomson; four grandchildren; a niece, Mary Helen Clarke of LaGrange; and a sister, Jane Keel of Smyrna.

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, in Shadowlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Rebecca MacArthur officiating. Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
