Mr. Monroe Leverett
LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Mr. Monroe Leverett of Lovelace Road entered into rest on Friday, January 27, 2006 at Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis J. Quinn officiating. Burial was in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Leverett was a native of Lincoln County and was a retired Georgia Pacific employee.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maudell Smith Leverett of the home; two daughters, Mary Lee Leverett and Linda L. Jones, Lincolnton; seven sons, Bonnie A. (Lillie) Leverett, Shelton S. (Veronica) Leverett, Irvington, NJ, Richard M. Leverett, Gary, Ind., Robert L. (Julia) Leverett, Nathaniel (Jean) Leverett, Lincolnton, William I. (Connie) Leverett, Atlanta and Gregory E. (Rhonda) Leverett, Thomson; one brother, Ray Curry, Thomson; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandson, Swain and Josiah.

Norris W. Gunby, Sr. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Jennie Benning
APPLING, Ga. - Funeral services for Ms. Jennie Benning, 82, of the Winfield Community, who died Friday, August, 4, 2006, were held on Sunday, August 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with Rev. Roscoe Perry officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors are two sons, James Benning of Augusta and Robert (Mary Ann) Benning of Appling; a granddaughter, Sonya (Robby) Burns and a great-grandchild, Robby B. Burns, III, all of Augusta; a sister, Mrs. Francis Hill of Appling and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jane Gobble Reid
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Jane Gobble Reid, 57, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 in Thomson Manor Nursing Facility.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006 in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jim Ramsey and Rev. Wayne Brunner officiating.

Mrs. Reid was a native of Wilkes County, but had lived in Thomson for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth Laster, Dearing; her two sons, David Reid, Augusta and Joel Reid, Lousiville, Ga.; her mother, Rebecca Gobble, Thomson; three sisters, Pat (Billy) Thornton, Washington, Linda (Bobby) Reese, Thomson and Amelia Harrison, Thomson and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice or to the Thomson First Baptist Church Capital Campaign.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ophelia Newsome Hammett
Retired,Thomson Company
STAPLETON, Ga. - Mrs. Ophelia Newsome Hammett, 79, widow of Mr. Frank Hammett, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at the residence of her daughter in Stapleton.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday June 25, 2006 in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Billy Sturkey, Roy Parkerson, Wells McCorkle, Wayne Scraber, Mike Huff, Daniel Schaeffer and Robbie Meadows.

Mrs. Hammett was a native of Edgehill, Glascock County, a daughter of the late Amy and Hubert Newsome, she moved to McDuffie County in the early 1950's, and worked for Thomson Company for 48 years. She was an avid member of Hill Baptist - where her father in-law, Charlie D. Hammett, was founder - until health problems prevented her attendance.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Huff of Stapleton; three brothers, Dean Newsome, of California, Lonnie Newsome and William Newsome both of Florida; one sister, Brenda Lett, of Ohio; four grandchildren, Lynn Rabun, Christina Hicks, David Michael Cowart, and Evie Moon; nine great grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charles H. "Stump" Davis
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Charles H. "Stump" Davis, 52, of Thomson, entered into rest April 28, 2006, at the Medical College of Georgia. He was the beloved husband of Patricia M. Davis.
Survivors include, wife, Patricia M. Davis, Thomson; daughters, Jennifer Ritchie, Virginia, Tana Fulbright, Thomson; brother, James Davis, Boneville; sisters, Lois Reese, Thomson, JoAnn Bowick, Boneville, Shirley Axon, Boneville, Elizabeth Wells, Boneville; five grandchildren: Christina Boutwell, Brea Boutwell, Justin Boutwell, Will Ritchie and Claire Ritchie.

Mr. Davis was born in McDuffie County and was the son of the late Wilbur Davis and the late Mattie Davis. He was a salesman with Thomson Chrysler and was a member of Grace Community Fellowship. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Davis.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

Palllbearers were Keith Wall, Mel Wall, Barry Johnson, Brink Bradshaw, Buddy Whitaker, Mac McAlister, Dwayne Boutwell, Robert Law, Donnie May and Buddy Whitaker as an Honorary Pallbearer.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Thomas Paul Garrison, Jr.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Dr. Thomas Paul Garrison, Jr., 81, a long-time Gainesville dentist, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2006, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Dr. Garrison was born in Marietta, Ga., in 1924, to Thomas Paul Garrison, Sr. and Ruby Mayes Garrison. Dr. Garrison graduated from high school in Hall County in 1942 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a signalman and gunner, attached to the US Navy Pacific Fleet during the second World War. After the war, he returned to Georgia, and attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. He was employed in the funeral service industry as an embalmer until graduation from Emory Dental School in 1960. Dr. Garrison practiced dentistry in several Georgia locales, including Thomson, Macon, and for the past 20 years, Gainesville, where he owned and operated Blue Ridge Dental Center. Service-minded, Dr. Garrison was a Mason and Shriner, serving as President of the Thomson Shrine Chapter in the 1970s. He was active in the Thomson Gaslight Theatre in the 60s and 70s, and a perennial coach for youth baseball.

He is predeceased by his brother, Dr. Joseph Mayes Garrison, of North Augusta, S.C., and his stepdaughter, Elaine Lumley Pope of Macon.

Dr. Garrison is survived by his wife, Ann, of Gainesville; daughter, Paula Garrison Gunby of Thomson; son, Thomas P. Garrison III, of Callaway, MD; son-in-law, Jerry Pope, of Macon; stepson, Michael Lumley, of Macon; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 25, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville. Flowers may be sent to Memorial Park Funeral Home at 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504.

Mrs. Roberta Thomas
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Roberta Thomas entered into rest Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Blair House Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 21, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Dearing, with Rev. Mark Downs, Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors are one son, Forrest Thomas, Jr., Dorchester, Mass.; a devoted grandson, Larry (Angela) Thomas, Hephzibah; one sister, Mary Sue Jones, Augusta; two brothers-in-law, Johnnie Paschal, Sr., Dearing and Calvin Jones, Augusta; sister-in-law, Ruby J. Latimore, Thomson, Ga.; a host of other grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bobby Lee Stewart

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Bobby Lee Stewart, 57, died Friday April 28, 2006 in the University Hospital.
Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Sunday April 30, 2006 in the Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Don Widener officiating.

Mr. Stewart was a native of Louisville, Ga., a painter and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his father, Willie Fred Stewart; mother, Georgia Mae Denton Edwards and a daughter, Connie D. Stewart.

He is survived by wife, Mrs. Nancy Wade Stewart; sons and daughters-in-law, William Linn and Christy Stewart and Bobby Lee and Michelle Stewart, Jr., all of Thomson; brother, Fred R. Stewart of Thomson; sisters, Juanita McCoy Stutts of Warrenton, and Marie Morgan of Austell; eight grandchildren several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Mrs. Connie Stewart, care of Curtis Funeral Home.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Gilchrist entered into rest Friday, March 31, 2006 at her residence. She was a member of Good Shepard Baptist Church of which Rev. Clarence Moore is pastor.
Funeral details were announced by Dent's Funeral Home.

She is survived by one son, Mr. Danny (Faye) Gilchrist; two daughters, Mrs. Denise (Frank) Cooper and Mrs. Arthalia Gilchrist of Augusta; two brothers, Mr. Eddie B. (Mary) Fountain and Mr. Willie Lawrence (Frances) Fountain, both of Thomson; one sister, Mrs. Gloria (Willie) Jackson, Augusta; four grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The Historic Dent's Undertaking Establishment was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Willie "Bubba" Marshall
THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Rev. Willie "Bubba" Marshall, of Thomson, was held on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at the Stamps Branch Baptist Church, Warren County, with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Rev. Marshall was a McDuffie County native and a 1968 graduate of the former R.L. Norris High School. He was an associate pastor of Stamp Branch Baptist Church and had been employed as a meter reader with the Georgia Power for over 20 years.

Survivors are a loving, devoted and dedicated wife, Mrs. Valerie Leverette Marshall; a loving daughter, Christina Marshall; a grandson, Jacambrian Rashaad Amir Marshall all of the home; a stepson, Darrel Rivers of Warrenton, Ga.; three loving brothers, Sheriff Logan (Johnnie Mae) Marshall and Wyman (Gloria) Marshall all of Thomson, Marion (Stephanie) Marshall of Augusta; nephews, niece, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
