Mrs. Betty J. Thomas

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Betty J. Thomas, 73, beloved wife of Mr. Harry Thomas, of Glen Stovall Road, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 23, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Widener officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Thomas was a native and lifelong resident of McDuffie County. She was a retired para-pro from the media center of Thomson Elementary School after 24 years of service. She was a member of the Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Harry Thomas, Thomson; her daughter, Mrs. Jill (Randy) Crutfield, Thomson; her son, Mr. Keith (Lana) Thomas, Sugar Hill Ga.: and her five grandchildren, Erika Mathews, Parker Thomas, Riley Thomas, Trey Thomas and Ashlyn Thomas.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Overton, Bobby Norris, Rick Sewell, Paul Cook, Michael Cook and Jeff Cook.

Mr. Kye David Guy, Jr.
DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Kye David Guy, Jr., 46, beloved husband of Crystal M. Guy, died Monday April 3, 2006 in the University Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday April 5, in the Iron Hill Advent Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Mr. Guy was a native of McDuffie County. He was a retired welder and a member of Iron Hill Advent Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father Mr. K.D. Guy, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mrs. Crystal M. Guy, Dearing; a daughter and son-in-law, Clarice L. Beasley and Christopher R. (Chris) Beasley, Sr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Kye "David" Guy, III and Misty A. Guy, Dearing; his mother, Laverne Guy, Dearing; a brother, Eddie McGahee, Dearing; three sisters, Linda Price, Harlem, Diane Taylor, Grovetown and Judy Minor, Dearing; grandchildren, Christopher "Robert" Beasley, Jr., Virginia (Ginnie) Marie Beasley, "Kaeliegh" Denise Beasley, "Kyla" Nicole Annis, Kye David Guy IV (Tigger) and Heaven Leigh Guy.

Pallbearers were Lee Sims, Tony Hadden, Bill May, Ernie Beavis, Gyle Workman and Russell "Wade" Minor. Honorary pallbearers were Russell Bohler, Chris Beasley, Richard Hathcock, Jr., Royce "Wayne" Culve, David Guy III and Lee Thaxton, Jr.

Mr. James Brown
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Funeral services for Mr. James Brown, of Harwick Court, Augusta, were held on Thursday, April 6, 2006, at 3:30 p.m. at the New Holt Baptist Church, Harlem, with Rev. Melvin Adams officiating. Interment was in the Second Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors are one daughter, Sheron Bussey of Augusta; four sisters, Robbie Mae Johnson, Mary Jackson, Vivian Brown and Susan Brown, all of Dearing, Ga.; two brothers, Andrew Brown of Thomson, and Robert Brown of Dearing; aunts, uncles, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eddie B. Walker
THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral services for Mr. Eddie B. Walker, of Thomson, were held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Mill Rock Baptist Church, with Rev. R.C. Lockhart officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are four daughters and two sons, Gladys (Ted), Pompano Beach, Fla., Rose Mary of Thomson, Mammie of Chicago, Rose (Dennis) of Thomson, Eddie (Zell) of Atlanta, and Sidney (Iris) of Evans; 19 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special grandson, Quintron M. Walker, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Charles Horne Sr.
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. John Charles Horne Sr. entered into rest at his residence Tuesday, February 22, 2006.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Dr. Len Chavis officiating.

Survivors include his daughters, Elaine Horne, Dearing, Susan Horne, Thomson, and Kay Horne, Hephzibah; son, John C. Horne Jr.; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Julia Mooney, Lincolnton, Maggie M. Howard and Ann Powell, Augusta, and Veronica Mesmer, Columbia, S.C., and his brother, Richard Horne, Evans.

Mr. Robert Henry "Buddy" Wilson
Retired Carpenter and Well Driller
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Robert Henry "Buddy" Wilson of Thomson entered into rest June 22, 2006 at his residence.

Survivors are his wife, Jewell Cranford Wilson, Thomson; sons, Mike Cushman, Thomson, Mark Wilson, Thomson, Wayne Wilson (Ashley), Thomson; mother, Lucy Richards, Thomson; brother, Ray Wilson, Elberton, Ga.; sister, Barbara Scott, Laurens, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wilson was born in Wilkes County. He was retired as a Carpenter and Well Driller . Mr. Wilson was also a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father John Henry Wilson and a brother Charles Lee Wilson.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larron Pilgrim officiating. Graveside Services followed at 4 p.m. in the Mallorysville Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Berry officiating.

Pallbearers were Buck Anderson, Edgar Hendrick, Shawn Epps, Chris Almon, Darren Scott and Jared Scott. Honorary Pallbearers were Stan Driver and Bobby Scott.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anna Mae Dozier Mathis
THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Anna Mae Dozier Mathis of Thomson was held on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilkes Memorial Church of God in Christ, Warrenton, Ga., with Elder Lawrence Bacon officiating and Eulogist. Interment was in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors are a very special friend and partner, Mr. Eddie Smith; six children, Willie (Lillie) Franklin, Jr. of Thomson, Sadie Franklin (Mike) of Warrenton, Sara Franklin (Daryl) Hodge of Stone Mountain, Ga., Ivory Mathis of Jonesboro, Ga., Betty (Alexander) Andrews of Thomson., Cathy (Edward) Winfrey of Thomson; four sisters, Sadie Lindsey and Diane Shirley both of Thomson, Elsie Franklin of Augusta and Emma Wallace of Columbus, Ohio; seven brothers, Willie (Mattie) Franklin of Warrenton, Eddie (Beatrice) Dozier, Willie James Wallace, Timothy (Lashaya) Wallace, Billy Wallace all of Columbus, Dennis Wheeler and Steve McCoy both of Thomson; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; an Aunt Lula Bell Dozier of Norwood; goddaughter, Barbara Larkins; a niece, Catherine (Pookie) Brown, other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Joe Walker Meadows, Sr.

COCHRAN, Ga. - Mr. Joe Walker Meadows, Sr., 80, retired farmer and peach grower, died Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, after a short illness.

Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Meadows.

He is survived by his wife, Kemper Meadows; daughters, Dorothy Meadows Knox, Mary Meadows Sloop, Jenny Meadows, Laura Meadows, Margaret Grimsley, Mary Lee Wimberly; son Joe Walker Meadows, Jr.; 13 grandchildren; and sisters, Kathryn Kerr and Evelyn Steele.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Meadows lived his entire life in Bleckley County, Georgia. He attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Georgia. He cultivated his life-long love of music as a member and soloist of the UGA Glee Club and Cochran First United Methodist Church, which he served in many capacities. He was an original member of the Bleckley County Hospital Authority, an active member of the Georgia Peach Growers Association and Georgia Farm Bureau and former director of the Production Credit Association.

Services were held Monday, February 19, at 11 a.m. at Cochran First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Mays officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his sons-in-law and grandsons, Bob Knox, Jr., Labe Sloop, Robbie Grimsley, Lane Wimberly, Philip Sloop, Rob Grimsley, Walker Meadows and Jim Wimberly.

Memorial donations may be made to Cochran First United Methodist Church, 119 East Dykes Street, Cochran, Georgia, 31014.

Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henry Montgomery

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Henry Montgomery, 82, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at Thomson Manor Nursing Home in Thomson.

He was the son of the late Mrs. Charity Montgomery.

A memorial service was held on Friday, February 16, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Thomson Funeral System Chapel.

Mrs. Mary Jean Register
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Jean Register, 69, beloved wife of Mr. Mike Register, died Monday, February 19, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, in the Thomson First United Methodist Church with Rev. Liza Marler officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Register was a native of Miami, Fla., but had lived in McDuffie County for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Register, Thomson: three sons, Jeffrey M. and Elaine Register, Macon, Timothy J. Register, Camden, and Jonathan A. and Rosemary H. Register, Thomson; three grandsons, Brandon M. Register and Steven L. Register, both of Macon, and Anthony L. Langham, Thomson; five granddaughters, Lauren Register, Macon, Anna Marie Register, Mallory Register, and Jamie Lee Register, all of Camden, Kristy E. and Jefferson Rabun, both of Thomson; a great-grandson, Joshua W. Rabun, Thomson; her beloved pet, Scout Register, Thomson; three sisters, Sandra and Jimmy Kennedy, Lizella, Dianne and Gene Lang, Lizella, and Elaine and Tom Brown, Eatonton; and two brothers, Stanley Brown, Macon, and Bobby Brown.

Pallbearers were Donnie Reese, Steven Register, Brandon Register, Anthony Langham, Jim Cowart, and Chris McGahee. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeff Cowart, Barry King, Charlie Wolf, Guy Bivins, Dean Hilson, and Bill Walker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomson First United Methodist Church or the Gideons International.

Mrs. Mary S. Evans
Retired bookkeeper
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Mary S. Evans, 86, of Thomson, entered into rest February 15, 2007, at Westwood Nursing Home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Chester "Jack" Evans.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Randy Dunaway officiating.

Mrs. Evans was born in Decatur, Ala., but lived in Thomson, Ga. for more than 40 years. She had worked as a bookkeeper at the Belle Meade Country Club. Mrs. Evans was a member of Young Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: several nieces and nephews: Moira Graziano Johnson, Marsha Graziano Toscano and Kim Graziano Evans, Louis C. Graziano II, David B. Graziano and Billy Evans.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30030.

Mrs. Doris Key Lanier Blackwell

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Doris Key Lanier Blackwell, beloved wife of James "Jimmie" Blackwell, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007 at her residence.

A memorial service was held Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, 629 Greene Street, Augusta, Georgia with Rev. C. Don Manning officiating.

Mrs. Blackwell was born in Habersham County on October 20, 1936, to the Late Carl L. and Martha Key. She was a resident of Richmond County for more than 50 years. Doris graduated from the Columbia County school system where she was active in sports and the drama club. After attending Augusta Technical College, she worked in the computer field for many years. She then became a licensed realtor retiring after 27 years, and also worked at The Augusta National Golf Club for more than 35 years.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Martha Lanier Gunn (Edwin), Dearing; one son, Monte Lanier (Jane), Aurora, Col.; one stepson, Sam Blackwell (Janet), Augusta.; six nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Key Bullard, one brother, Carl (Buddy) Key and one son, Carl Michael (Mike) Lanier.

Mrs. Blackwell was a member of the Greater Augusta Association Board of Realtors, The Georgia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. She earned many awards, among them Million Dollar Producer, Lifetime member of Circle of Excellence and was nominated as Realtor of the Year. She was on the Executive Board and a deaconess of First Christian Church.
