Mrs. Madge W. Wilson
Retired Davis Drugs
HARLEM, Ga. - Mrs. Madge W. Wilson entered into rest March 23, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond E. Wilson.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Revs. Mike Timmerman and Tommy Roundtree officiating.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Emanuel County, Ga., and was the daughter of the late Dewey Williams and the late Ila Mae Boroughs Williams. She was retired from Davis Drugs in Swainsboro after 29 years of service. She was a volunteer with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Disaster Relief of Georgia and with the Good Samaritan House in Dearing. Mrs. Wilson was also a member of Dearing Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Williams, Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Nell Tuten, Rincon, Ga., and Latrell McKenzie, Hardeeville, S.C.

Memorials may be made to Dearing Baptist Church, 265 Main St. Dearing, GA 30808.

Mr. Charles Wright, Sr.
Retired Metal Fabricator
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Charles Wright, Sr., 82, entered into rest March 22, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Renew officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Dustin Wright, Jason Wright, Chris Heard and Wes Sullivan.

Mr. Wright was born in Douglasville, Ga., and was the son of the late Charlie W. Wright and the late Lucille Taylor Wright. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was retired as a sheet metal fabricator. Mr. Wright was a Baptist.

Survivors include: sons, Charles W. Wright, Jr., Lexington, Ky., Marty C. Wright, Thomson; daughters, Cheryl W. Kemptner, Laguna Nigul, California, Vicki W. Tatum, Louisville, Ky.; brothers, Billie Wright, Thomson, Ronnie Wright, Atlanta, Ga., Gary Wright, Colorado; sister, Sybil Brooks, Conyers, Ga.; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mildred Story Phillips
Retired Business Owner
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Mildred Story Phillips, 95, of Thomson, entered into rest January 29, 2008, at Lake Crossing Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late William Mundy Phillips.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Thomson with Dr. Leonard DuPree officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dwight Nicholson, Tracy Phillips, Stacy Phillips, Scott Spivey, Joe Cash and Caleb Cash. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sunshine Sunday School Class, members of the Lydian Sunday School Class and members of the WMU.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Columbia County, but lived most of her life in McDuffie County. She was the daughter of the late George W. Story and the late Agnes Motes Story. Mrs. Phillips was retired as owner and operator of Phillips' Grocery, Phillips' Barbeque and Phil-Up Grill and Brazier. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she worked with and taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. Mrs. Phillips also served as pianist, was a member of the Adult Choir and a member of the WMU. She was also a community volunteer for many years.

Survivors include sons, Billy Phillips and Tommy Phillips (Sue) all of Thomson; daughters, Gloria Colet (Larry), Augusta, Sherene Nicholson (Jerry), Saluda, S.C.; sisters: Laura Adams and Betty Harrell both of Augusta; son-in-law: Alex Boatwright; and 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Joy Boatwright.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Capital Campaign P. O. Box 1205 Thomson, GA 30824.

Mrs. Barbara Thompson

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Barbara Thompson, 64, widow of Mr. Freddie Thompson, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in the Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Mrs. Thompson was a native of Oak Park, Ill., but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a member of the Women's Army Corp. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Young, Warner Robins, Ga.; a sister, Carol Larson, Minnesota; a brother, Ed Schaffroth, Calif.; and a grandson, Jason Young.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary E. Hollimon McGahee
Retired Dietician
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary E. Hollimon McGahee, 76, wife of the late Mr. Forrest McGahee Sr., entered into rest Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at University Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Second Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor J. L. Stokes officiating. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church cemetery in Thomson.

Survivors are her children, Johnnie T. Williams, Forrest (Philura) McGahee, Donald (Doris) McGahee, Edward McGahee, Gwendolyn (Bobby) McCarter, Franklin (Mia) McGahee and Robert McGahee; brothers, Forrest (Mattilyn) Hollimon and Johnny A. (Selena) Williams; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Horace (Evelyn) McGahee; sister-in-law, Annie Bell Lawson and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Ethel Bales Wood
Seamstress
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel Bales Wood, 98, entered into rest Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at Dearing Full Gospel Church with Rev. Jerry Rockefeller and Rev. Eddie Renew officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Mitchell, Ga.

Mrs. Wood was a native of Washington County, a member of Dearing Full Gospel Church and a seamstress. Mrs. Wood was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She loved working in the garden and flowers. She will be missed by all who knew her. Always cheerful, she never said an unkind word about anyone.

She is survived by two daughters, Gladys Usry Happ of Graniteville, and Frances Mae Usry Williams of Thomson; one son, William Junior Usry of Thomson; one sister, Louise Bales McNeal of Gibson; and one brother, Bill Bales of Thomson; 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sara Usry Cook and Mary Usry Perryman; one son, Leroy Usry; and her parents, Eli and Judie Bales.

Pallbearers were Wesley Usry, Rick Warren, Wayne Warren, Ronnie Brooks, George Perryman, and Robert Kitchens.

Memorials may be made to the Dearing Full Gospel Church Building Fund in care of Teresa Rockefeller, 3584 Brinkley Rd., Dearing, GA 30808.

Retired SSG Timothy E. Standridge
US Army Retired
DEARING, Ga. - Retired SSG Timothy E. Standridge, 67, beloved husband of Anna E. Standridge, entered into rest on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the VA Medical Center, Augusta.

Funeral services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Dearing Full Gospel Church with the Reverend Eddie Renew and the Reverend Jerry Rockefeller officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Standridge was born in Augusta and was retired from the US Army having served in Korea and Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous awards including the Purple Heart. Mr. Standridge was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include wife, Anna E. Standridge; one son, Robert Standridge, Dearing; five daughters, Michaela Poster, Germany, Ingrid Dennis, Manning, SC, Yutta Martin, Augusta, Sylvia Evans, Dearing, and Cynthia Lee, Louisville; and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were members of the Military.

Mr. Ronnie Bradley
Retired Parts Manager
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Ronnie Bradley, of Thomson, entered into rest February 6, 2008, at his residence with his wife and loved ones at his side.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Garvin officiating. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jamie Usry, Jr., Joe Mays, Joshua Glover, Adam Dye, David Dye and Sonny Dye.

Mr. Bradley was a native of McDuffie County and was the son of the late Alex and Frances Bradley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was retired as an auto parts store manager. Mr. Bradley was also a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

The family said that Mr. Bradley was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger and reached out to help anyone in need. Mr. Bradley will be missed by everyone that knew him and will live in their hearts forever.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Roberta Dye Bradley, Thomson; daughters, Teresa Lyons and Angela Usry, both of Thomson; grandchildren, Carrie, Casey, Joshua, Khristian and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Gavin.

It was Mr. Bradley's request that memorials be made to Sweetwater Baptist Church 1606 Wrens Hwy., Thomson, GA 30824.

Mrs. Anna Prather Reeves

EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Anna Prather Reeves, 86, wife of the late Mr. Calvin Reeves, entered into rest January 15, 2008, at her residence.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008, in the Adam's Chapel Cemetery, Dearing, Ga., with the Rev. Mark Erbland officiating.

Mrs. Reeves was born in McDuffie County to the late Roger Prather and Levy Welch Prather. She was a homemaker and a member of Bible Deliverance Temple.

Survivors include four daughters, Ellie Thomas Horne and husband Richard, of Evans, Sarah King, of Evans, Mary Brown and husband Charles, of Appling, and Betty Perry and husband Eddie, of Grovetown; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Charles E. "Peanut" Maddox

DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Charles E. "Peanut" Maddox, 53, entered into rest on Monday January 14, 2008, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008, at Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, Ga. with Jay Lewis officiating. Interment was in the Walker Cemetery.

Mr. Maddox was born in Augusta and was a sheetrock contractor for Robyn Palmer Drywall.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Ormsbee, Dearing, Shelby Rogers, Rome, and Gail Stevens, Grovetown; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were David Hall, Robyn Palmer, Finley Fife, Marion Taylor, Mark Newman and Roy Bosdell.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
