MITCHELL, Ga. - Mr. Roy H. Martin, 38, entered into rest Sunday, February 3, 2008, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mitchell City Cemetery with Mary Ann Braswell officiating.

Mr. Martin was a native of Richmond County but lived in Glascock County.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Kim Martin; one son, Ryan Martin; two brothers, Ray Martin, Jr., of Hephzibah, and Cecil Waters of California; three sisters, Gloria Moore of Martinez, Sandra Klein of Thomson and Terry Roll of Martinez; one sister-in-law, Janet (Bill) Raley of Mitchell; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jack D. Hardaway

HARLEM, Ga. - Mr. Jack D. Hardaway, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in the University Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, in the Harlem City Cemetery with Mr. Phil Boyd officiating.

Mr. Hardaway was a native of Columbia County. He was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Mercelia Hardaway and Howell and Evelyn Hardaway, all of Harlem; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. H. B. Ficklin

WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. H. B. Ficklin, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

He leaves to cherish his memories two brothers Ronnie Ficklin of Thomson, and Clifford Ficklin of New York, and a sister, Mary L. Leslie of Greensboro, Ga.

Services were held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Dawson's Mortuary Chapel in Warrenton.

Dawson's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jeremy David Love, Sr.
GROVETOWN, Ga. - Mr. Jeremy David Love, Sr., 33, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Columbia County.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, in Mount Tabor Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Love was a native of Gwinnett County, but had lived in Grovetown for several years. He was a cook at the Thomson Waffle House.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary McNally, Grovetown; his two sons, Jeremy Love, Jr., Grovetown and Zachary Love, Colorado; his mother and step-father, Gloria and Glenn Allen, Grovetown; his father and step-mother, Gene and Virginia Love, Harlem; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bobbie Scott, Augusta; three brothers, Ronald Brady, Grovetown, Christopher Love, Macon, and Wayne Johnson, Dearing; three sisters, Robbie Poole, Grovetown, Leigh Poole, Dearing, and Angie Adams, Gibson; and his girlfriend, Erica Dillingham.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ralph Riley, III

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mr. Ralph Riley, III, 42, of Thomson, was held on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church in Thomson with Rev. Luther Rogers, Jr., officiating.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James L. Moss

JEWELL, Ga. - Mr. James L. Moss, 66, of Jewell, died at his Sparta residence on January 2, 2008.

He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Alice Wilcher Moss of Jewell; daughter, Twanna M. Griffin of Thomson; son, Ricardo Moss of Jewell; three sisters, Betty M. Roberts of Sparta, Pauline M. Hughes of Augusta, and Jennifer Reese of Macon; two brothers, Clarence Moss of Farmingdale, N.J. and Emanuel Moss of Freehold, N.J.; three grandchildren, Franquandreze D. Griffin, Uniqua S. Griffin, and Talia J. Yarbrough, all of Thomson.

Services were held Sunday, January 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with burial at Second Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Charles Marshall Ray, Jr.
Retired Farmer, Manager - Happy Valley Processing Co.
NORWOOD, Ga. - Mr. Charles Marshall Ray, Jr., 79, beloved husband of Mrs. Jessie J. Ray, died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Warrenton Health and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Norwood United Methodist Church with Eddie Carrell officiating. Burial followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ray, a native and life long resident of Warren County, was a retired farmer and manager with Happy Valley Processing Company. He was a life long member of Norwood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie J. Ray; three sons, Charlie Ray of Knoxville, Tenn., Doug (Glenda) Carrell of Norwood, Eddie (Paula) Carrell of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Jan C. (Randy) Stewart of Ann Arbor, Mich.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Susan and Phil Smith of Norwood.

Pallbearers were Donald Palmer, David Carrell, Brian Stewart, Mark Stewart, Daniel Stewart, and Henry Wood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Mr. Robert Cranford Morey

WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. Robert Cranford Morey, 81 of Warrenton, entered into rest March 28, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Josh Morey, Jeff Welch, Johnny Reese, Plemon Hobbs.

Mr. Morey was born in Mitchell County, Ga., and was the son of the late Robert Morey and the late Courtney Morey. He was a member of Camak Baptist Church. Mr. Morey was retired from Savannah River Site after 34 years.

Survivors include his wife: Fannie Morey, Aiken; sons: Maurice Morey, McCormick, S.C., Gary Morey, Grovetown, Clyde Morey, Thomson, Mike Morey, Pinson, Ala., Alex Morey, Thomson, Joe Morey, Thomson, Eric Morey, McDonough, Ga.; sisters: Katie Pearl Shanklin, Doerun, Ga., Latrelle Potts, Doerun, Ga., Myrlin Jones, Panama City, Fla., Evonia Free, Aiken, and 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Clarence L. Simons

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Clarence L. Simons, 81, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, in Thomson Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, December 28, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sonny Peevy officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Simons was a native McDuffie County. He was retired from Thomson Oak Flooring and he was a farmer. He was a member of Mesena United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ethel G. Simons, a brother, Howard (Skip) Simons and a niece, Joan Y. Palmer.

He is survived by his sister, Helen S. Purdy, Thomson; nephews, Jack L. Yelton, Jr., Mesena, and Sidney Simons, Mokane, Mo.; nieces, Peggy S. Benson, Thomson, and Jeannie S. Wells, Boneville; great nieces, Marsha Mooney, Kimberly S. Carter, and Marie Knox; and a host of cousins.

Pallbearers were W. F. Norris, Sonny Pierce, Russell Burkey, Vernon Burkey, Rolf Gunnels, and Larry Rachels.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Travis Fay Rooks

STAPLETON, Ga. - Mr. Travis Fay Rooks, 72, the beloved husband of 50 years to June Prescott Rooks, and the son of the late Aaron Jerimiah Rooks and the late Mattie Lou Williams Rooks, entered into rest Saturday, January 12, 2008.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Racz, Rev. Sam Collins and Chaplain Pauline Hughes officiating. Burial followed at Stapleton Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rooks was a retired supervisor at Stapleton Garment Co., a member of the Stapleton United Methodist Church and served in the National Guard. Mr. Rooks was a loving husband, father and dedicated grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, June; son, Travis E. Rooks; a daughter, Faye R. Jones and her husband, Bill; two sisters, Sue Purvis, her husband, Weldon and Nelda Williams, her husband, Jimmy, a granddaughter, Kristy Jones and a sister-in-law, Doris Rooks. Mr. Rooks is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Rooks.

Pallbearers were his nephews: Ray Rooks, Tim Williams, Doug Williams, Daniel Bazemore, Jeff Bazemore and Clay Prescott.

WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Ms. Angelica Lee Slusher, 19, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, in Burke County.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13 in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Karen Marsh officiating.

Mrs. Nellie "Jeanelle" Pearl Wilburn

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Nellie "Jeanelle" Pearl Wilburn, 63, Thomson, was held on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church, Warren County, with the Pastor Rev. George Glenn officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny L. Wilburn, Thomson; daughter, Marie Jackson, Thomson; two sons, Terry Wilburn, Thomson and Ronnie L. (Christine) Wilburn, North Augusta, S.C.; a very devoted granddaughter, Kulonda (Damon) Arnette, Thomson; five sisters, Vera Pinkston, Shirley Dickson, Brenda Martin, all of Warrenton, Mary (Michael) Wylie and Kathy Moss, all of Thomson; four brothers, Johnny R. (Evelyn) Moss, Michael (Joan) Moss, all of Warrenton, Bobby (Annell) Moss, Atlanta, and Larry (Vanessa) Moss, Wrens; mother-in-law, Ammie Wilburn, Warrenton; three sisters-in-law, Annie Evans, Daisy (Donnie) Walker, all of Warrenton, Sarah (Eric) Hannah, Thomson; three brothers-in-law, Willie (Ann) Wilburn, Atlanta, James (Teresa) Wilburn and Michael (Barbara) Wilburn, all of Warrenton; three aunts, Agnes Randall, Thomson, Iola McNair and Bobbie Johnson, both of Warrenton; 14 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; devoted friends, Thomas (Louise) Roberts; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
