Mrs. Mattie Frank Burnley
Loving and Devoted Mother
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Mattie Frank Burnley, 95, of Thomson, entered into rest February 23, 2008, at her residence.

She was the beloved wife of the late Henry M. Burnley.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Washington Heights Baptist Church with Revs. Danny Burnley and Sonny Peevy officiating.

Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Josh Overby, Dalton Overby, Robert Morecraft, Howard Burnley, Tommy Burnley and Buddy Broome.

Mrs. Burnley was born in White Plains, Ga., and was the daughter of the late Thomas J. Veazey and the late Nettie Clyde Lary Veazey.

She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Thomson.

Mrs. Burnley was also one of the founding members of Washington Heights Baptist Church, where she was an active and dedicated church worker until age 92.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Burnley and his wife Rebecca of Appling; daughter, Peggy McMahan and her husband Phillip of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Cindy Hill, Angie Morecraft, Bill Broome, May Williams, Buddy Broome, Stephanie Broome, Melanie Meeks and Michelle Burnley; 15 great-grandchildren.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Georgia Mae Jones

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Georgia Mae Jones, 83, of Thomson, was held on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at 1 p.m. at New Zion A.M.E. Church with Rev. Luther Rogers officiating.

Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors: companion, Ollie Rogers, Thomson; son, John H. (Brenda) Jones, Thomson; stepdaughter, Louise Moss, Thomson; stepson, Robert Harris, Thomson; two granddaughters, Sara (Garvin) Brown and Michelle (Bill) Rogers, all of Thomson; a grandson, David (Linda) Rogers, Augusta; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Katrina Roberts, Thomson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bobby Charles Taylor

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mr. Bobby Charles Taylor, 49, Thomson, was held on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. Clifford Marks officiating.

Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Belinda Sturgis Taylor, Thomson; four sons, Bobby (Tiffany) Taylor, Jr., Dearing, Michael Taylor, Donnell Taylor and Chester Sturgis (Brandy) Taylor, all of Thomson; two grandchildren, Devin Taylor and Gabby Taylor, both of Dearing; three brothers, Willie James (Lynne) Taylor, New Ellenton, SC, Jay (Diane) Taylor, Monetta, SC and Darrell (Cheryl) Taylor, Harlem; four sisters, Mary Lois (Jim) Angona, Athens, Brenda (Melvin) Neal, Thomson, Shirley Ann Hunter, Athens, and Barbara Jean Taylor, Thomson; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Preston K. Blanchard
Carter-Blanchard Office Supply, Inc.
GROVETOWN, Ga. - Mr. Preston K. Blanchard, 57, husband of Tonya Carter Blanchard, has gone home to be with his Lord, Monday, January 21, 2008.

Mr. Blanchard was a native and lifelong resident of Grovetown.

He was a graduate of Harlem High School and Georgia Southern University.

Mr. Blanchard owned and operated Carter-Blanchard Office Supply, Inc. since 1980 and was formerly the Editor and Publisher of The Columbia News & Times.

He was an avid horseman and animal lover.

He was previously a member of the Belle Meade Hunt Club where he enjoyed many years of riding.

Mr. Blanchard exemplified his bravery and courage as he fought his battle with cancer giving his Lord glory for the strength to fight.

He was a member of Kiokee Baptist Church.

Mr. Blanchard was a good man, a loving husband, father, son and brother.

Surviving family members, in addition to his wife, include his children, Jonathan Carter Blanchard of Augusta, Allison Pollard Blanchard of Grovetown; mother: Mildred Pollard Blanchard; brothers: John Pierce Blanchard, Jr. and wife, Deborah, Patrick G. Blanchard and wife, Gwen, Philip B. Blanchard and wife, Kay and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Blanchard was preceded in death by his father: John Pierce Blanchard, Sr.; brother: Perry C. Blanchard; maternal grandparents: G.B. Pollard, Sr., Mattie Kelley Pollard and paternal grandparents: Dr. Pierce Gordon Blanchard and Clara Moralle Ramsey Blanchard.

The funeral service was held Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Kiokee Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Bennett, Rev. John Davis and Rev. Steve Hartman officiating.

Pallbearers were Mark Bartles, Jake (Jakie) Pollard III, Keith Pollard, Rick Crawford, Daryl Crawford, Bernard (Barney) Dunstan, Jr., Lint (Bubba) Sparks III, Dan Blanton and Lyn Smith.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Amy Lou Crook Kennedy
Thomson Company
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Amy Lou Crook Kennedy, of Thomson, entered into rest April 12, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of the late Nelson Kennedy.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Steve Lamb officiating.

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late Noah Lee Crook and the late Omie Ruth Goldman Crook.

She worked in the Sample Department at Thomson Company and retired after 43 years of service. Mrs. Kennedy was a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Kennedy Shelton (Dwight) - Thomson; grandchildren, Danny Shelton (Heather) and Dawn Shelton - all of Thomson; and several nieces and nephews.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Merle White
Retired US Army
DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Merle White, of Dearing, entered into rest Friday, April 25, 2008, at Eisenhower Medical Hospital, Ft. Gordon.

Mr. White was born in Pawnee, Okla., and was the son of the late Roy White and the late Jacqline Williams White.

He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retired Sgt. 1st Class, served in Civil Service for 16 years.

Mr. White was also a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Army Airborne Division, Army Rangers, Infantry and as a Green Beret.

The family said that Mr. White was a true American hero.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Ruth White, Dearing, and four children: Paul Romeo (Julie), N. Augusta, SC, Susan Manuel (Buck), Thomson, Michael S. White (Susan), Martinez, GA and Ruth White Bass (Michael), Thomson, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

At Mr. White's request there will be no service.

Friends may call at the residence of Mrs. Margaret Ruth White at 150 Langham Street in Dearing.

Mr. Lewis Holliman

WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. Lewis Holliman, 62, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 29, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Renew and Rev. Bobby Renew officiating.

Burial was in the Adams Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Holliman was a native of Richmond County, but had lived in Warrenton for several years.

He was a retired heavy machine operator and a member of the Dearing Full Gospel Church.

He was a Navy Veteran.

He loved hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Wilbur and Carolyn Russell Holliman, a sister, Mozelle Tankersley, and a brother, Lynn Holliman.

He is survived by his two sons, Steve Holliman, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mike Holliman, Dearing; four sisters, Juanita Johnson, Thomson, Clara McNair, Harlem, Ann Bloodworth, Milledgeville, and Linda Fransworth, Beaumont, Texas; three brothers, Wilbur Holliman, Jr., Harlem, Larry Holliman, Las Vegas, and George Holliman, Dearing; and five grandchildren, Ty Holliman, Steve Holliman, Austin Holliman, Megan Holliman, and Skyler Holliman; and a special friend, Linda Boyd.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
