Mrs. Hazel Ross Dempsey, 65

WARNER ROBINS--Funeral for Hazel Ross Dempsey, 65, was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, from Shirley Hills Baptist Church. The Rev. Andy Cook officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
She died Sunday, July 15, at her residence.
Born in Dodge County, Mrs. Dempsey was the daughter of the late Wilkins B. and Annie Mae Arnold Ross. She was a member of Shirley Hills Baptist Church and of the Single Adult 1 Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis E. Dempsey of Warner Robins; her mother, Annie Mae Ross of Gresston; a son, Van Dempsey of Warner Robins; two daughters, Nena Dempsey Barger of Warner Robins and Sonya Dempsey Beecher of Oak Park; three brothers, Carl Ross of Eastman and Everett Ross and Gerald Ross, both of Cochran; two sisters, Dorothy Davis of Warner Robins and Hilda Cawley of Savannah; and eight grandchildren.
Heritage Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Johnny Lee Jones Sr.

METTER--Funeral for Johnny Lee Jones Sr., was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001, from Hooks Chapel of Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes. The Rev. Max Alderman officiated. Burial was in Canoochee Cemetery near Twin City.
He died Tuesday, July 9, at his home.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Jones had lived most of his life in Metter. He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of the Army, where he served in the Korean War.
Survivors include a son, Johnny Lee Jones Jr. of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Cindy Jones of Alvarda, Texas, and Lisa Tabors of Waco, Texas; four sisters, Jane McKinley and Gail Ansley of Statesboro and Adelia Rogers and Judy Jones of Metter; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Linda D. Hood, 46

WRIGHTSVILLE--Funeral for Mrs. Linda D. Hood, 46, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, from Brown Memorial Baptist Church. The Rev. Burton Dixon officiated. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
She died Monday, July 9.
Born in Emanuel County, Mrs. Hood was the daughter of the late Woodrow Hopkins and the late Lottie Mae Ivey. She was a member of Piney Mount United Methodist Church and had retired from Johnson County Board of Education as a bus driver.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Hood of Wrightsville; children, Melinda Brantley, April Smith and Jay Hood, all of Wrightsville; brothers, Harold Ivey of Harrison and Jerry Ivey of Wrightsville; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dwayne Ivey, Jody Ivey, Chris Ivey, Joey Ivey, Andy Crabb and Ryan Tribble.
Stanley Funeral Home of Wrightsville had charge of arrangements.

Ermie Lee Lampp, 86

DUBLIN--Funeral for Mrs. Ermie Lee Lampp, 86, was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, from Scot Baptist Church, Scott. The Rev. L.T. Logue and the Rev. Kenny Rowland officiated. Burial was in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church.
She died Monday, July 9.
A native of Emanuel County, she was the daughter of the late Houston M. Lampp and the late Avie Mae Ennis Lampp. She lived most of her life in Laurens County and was a member of Scott Baptist Church. She had retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company.
Survivors include two brothers, Andrew Lampp of Jacksonville, Fla., and Duell Lampp of Dublin; three sisters, Katherine Shaughnessy of Tampa, Fla., Cora Hamilton of Acworth and Mary Hardie of Dublin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Nephews served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Mamie Gay Rowland, 91

MIDVILLE--Graveside service for Mrs. Mamie Gay Rowland, 91, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, from Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro.
She died Wednesday, July 11, in Burke Medical Center.
A native of Emanuel County, Mrs. Rowland was a homemaker. She was a member of Midville United Methodist Church and of Midville Garden Club.
Survivors include a son, J. Henry Rowland Jr. of Atlanta; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Crowe-Fields Funeral Home of Millen had charge of arrangements.

Henry Curtis Faircloth, 81

SWAINSBORO--Graveside service for Henry Curtis Faircloth, 81, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, from Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Swainsboro. The Rev. Kelmer Durden officiated.
He died Friday, July 13, in Pleasant View Nursing Home in Metter.
A native of Johnson County, Mr. Faircloth was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars, a veteran of World War II, serving during the Korean Conflict. He had retired from Automatic Sprinkler, Swainsboro.
Survivors include two sisters, Dell Shackelford of Astor, Fla., and Yvonne Rhoades of Amelia Island, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary of Swainsboro had charge of arrangements.

George F. Somerville, 51

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for George F. Somerville, 51, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, from Victor Temple. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Thursday, Sept. 6, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Mr. Somerville was a member of Victory Temple, Swainsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Mary G. Somerville of Swainsboro; four daughters, Evette Somerville, Tina Somerville, Alicia Jordan and Melissa Green, all of Swainsboro; three sons, George Somerville Jr. and Kenneth Jordan, both of Swainsboro, and Earnie Miles of Baltimore.
Mosley's Funeral Home of Swainsboro had charge of arrangements.

Joseph Dillon Braswell, 90

ADRIAN--Funeral for Joseph Dillon Braswell, 90, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, from Kea's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tommy Veal and the Rev. Earl Warnock officiated. Burial was in Braswell Cemetery in Emanuel County.
He died Thursday, Sept. 13.
A lifelong resident of Emanuel County. Mr. Braswell was the son of the late Joseph Hinton Braswell and the late Eva Sumner Braswell. He was the widower of Annie Lois Fort Braswell. Mr. Braswell was a farmer and attended Kea's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Faye Haywood of Wilmington, N.C.; three sons, Gene Braswell of Adrian, David Braswell of Huntsville, Ala., and Phillip Braswell of Swainsboro; a sister, Nina Waites of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Donald Braswell of Swainsboro; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wendy Hagins, Don Braswell, Ned Braswell, Fred Braswell, Gibson Way and Hugh Braswell.
Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Diane Bennett Gunn, 42

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Diane Bennett Gunn, 42, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, from Ebenezer United Methodist Church. The Rev. Clarence Thompson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She died Friday. Sept. 14, in Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness.
A life long resident of Emanuel County, Mrs. Gunn was the daughter of the late Leonard Bennett Sr. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a secretary for Ohoopee Oil Company and was a 1977 graduate of Swainsboro High School.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Gunn of Swainsboro; a daughter, Alison Gunn of Swainsboro; her mother, Nell Sumner Bennett of Nunez; three sisters, Annette Odom and Judy Garrett of Swainsboro and Susie Watson of Nunez; a brother, Leonard Bennett Jr. of Nunez; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were George (Jr. Brinson), Lee Page, Michael Gunn, Earl Knight, Lionel Odom and Greg Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Fagler, James Mason, Dewitt Cullars, Jerry Fagler and employees of Ohoopee Oil Company.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home of Swainsboro had charge of arrangements.

Elton Henry Lamb, 95

ELLABELL--Funeral for Elton Henry Lamb, 95, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, from Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
He died Friday, Sept. 14, in Southeast Georgia Health Care System in Brunswick.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Lamb had retired from Great Dane Trailers. He formerly worked as a janitor at Rincon Elementary School and was a bus driver for Effingham County Board of Education. Mr. Lamb was a member of Black Creek Holy Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Annie Ruth McLin Sparks of Savannah and Milton, Fla., Nell Rowe of Savannah and Belle McLamb of Pembroke; a son, the Rev. James Lamb of Brunswick; a sister, Mary Daley of Pooler; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Robert W. Scott Jr., 72

SWAINSBORO--Graveside service for Robert W. Scott Jr., 72, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, from Swainsboro City Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Jenkins officiated.
He died Monday, Sept. 17, at his residence.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran and had retired as a civil engineer. He had also retired from L&S Car Care in Swainsboro. Mr. Scott was the son of the late Robert W. and Gertie Sullivan Scott Sr. and was the brother of the late Cecil Scott, Bernard "Shorty" Scott and Harry Scott.
Survivors include a sister, Sarah S. Lamb of Swainsboro; a brother, Wayne S. Scott of Scott and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Caldwell, Harold Knowlton, Bill Hendley, Randall Woods, Pete Rountree, Woody Nasworthy, Gerald Woodell, Gerald Marsh, Roy Kilpatrick, Wilbur Stephens and Ricky Gilmer.
