Charlie F. Sconyers, 75

SWAINSBORO-Funeral for Mr. Charlie F. Sconyers, 75, was held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary. The Rev. Randall Ray and the Rev. Don Proctor officiated and the Rev. Jack McCullough with the committal. Entombment was in the Eastbrook cemetery. The Rev. Jack McCullough officiated.
He died Friday, Nov. 23 at the University Hospital in Augusta after a brief illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Sconyers was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Georgia National Guard. He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church of Swainsboro, a member of the Swainsboro Masonic Lodge #244, a member of the Alee Temple of Savannah and served as past president of the Swainsboro Shrine Club. He was retired owner and operator of Sconyers Motors for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Townsend Sconyers of Swainsboro and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Julian Sconyers, Harry Dean Wiggins, Shot Strange, Sid Shepherd, Loren Gary, Homer Moxley, Otis Smith and Charles Mason.
Honorary pallbearers were men of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Thomas David Scott Sr., 76

SWAINSBORO-Funeral for Thomas David Scott Sr., 76, was held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 at 3 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. Dr. Bob Blankenship officiated. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Thursday, Nov. 15 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Scott was the retired owner and operator of David Scotts' Garage. He was a WWII Army veteran, member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church and a retired member of the Swainsboro Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former acting chief.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Riner Scott of Swainsboro; three sons, Thomas David Scott Jr. of Lilburn, James Emmitt Scott of Adairsville and Jonathan Ivey Scott of Swainsboro; one sister, Cuba Scott Parker of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers were Freddie McVey, Wendell Powell, Eddie Andrews, Mike Fagler, Rev. Reginald Blakewood, Jerry Cadle, Richard McNeely and John Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were Swainsboro Fire Department and Volunteers, Bonnie Ogburn, Wyatt Rich, Jay Youngblood, Frank Nasworthy Sr., Dr. Gerald Holsonback, Charles McDaniel, Charles Drake, Tyson Stephens, Al Thomas and Bill Rountree.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Joseph 'Buddy' Coney, 69

SWAINSBORO-Funeral for Mr. Joseph "Buddy" Coney, 69, was held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 at 1 p.m. from Smith Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Gilbert Dean officiated. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 21 after an extended illness.
A native of Laurens County, Mr. Coney lived much of his life in Detroit, Mich. before moving to Swainsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.C. and Cleola Coney; two brothers, Austin Wright of Detroit, Mich. and Lee Coney of Dublin; one sister, Mary lee Linder of Dublin and his wife, Mary Alice Coney of Detroit, Mich.
Survivors include two children, Stephen and LaTonya Coney of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Bessie Doyle of Swainsboro; two brothers, George Coney of Detroit, Mich. and Mack Coney of Chicago, IL.; two grandchildren and many other family members.
Mosley's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Laverna S. Mitchell, 86

CLAXTON-Funeral for Laverna S. Mitchell, 86, was held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Burial was in Ephesus Church Cemetery.
She died Saturday, Nov. 24 at hospice Savannah, Inc., after a long illness.
A native of Evans County she was a member of Ephesus Church and was retired from St. Joesph's Hospital where she was employed as a nurse's assistant. She was the wife of the late Ralph A. Mitchell.
Survivors include four sons, Billy A. Mitchell of Savannah, Freddie L. Mitchell of Richmond Hill, Leon Mitchell and Cleon Mitchell both of Swainsboro; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Finley Eubanks Jr., 64
SWAINSBORO- Funeral for Finley Everette Eubanks Jr., 64, will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at 7 p.m. from the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Swainsboro. The Rev. Sonya Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Westover Cemetery of Augusta.
He died Monday, Jan. 14 at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Eubanks was a native of South Carolina, a U.S. Air Force veteran and owner and operator of Dogwood Interiors of Swainsboro. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gillespie Eubank of Manhattan, N.Y.; and one sister, Cathy Harper of Jacksonville, Fla.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Arlis Huel Womack, 81
TWIN CITY- Funeral for Mr. Arlis Huel Womack, 81, will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. from Hebron Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Tommy Rountree and Elder Manning Temples will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He died Monday, Jan. 14 as his residence.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Womack was the son of the late Paul and Anna Medlock Womack. Mr. Womack was a retired farmer and had attended Hebron Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Luck Thorn Womack of Twin City; three sons, Arlis Huel Womack Jr., Harry Paul Womack and Donald Milton Womack all of Twin City; and one grandchild.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Burt C. Kendall, 92

APTOS, CALIF.- Funeral for Burt C. Kendall, 92, was held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 from his home.
He died Thursday, Dec. 20, after a long illness.
Mr. Kendall was a retired Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific. He retired from Crown Zellerbach paper company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Skipper" Meaders Kendall, previously of Swainsboro.
Survivors include his twin brother, Nat Kendall of Carmel, Calif.; four children, Lance Kendall of Santa Cruz, Calif., Candy Bernstein of Alamo, Calif., and Blair Kendall of Swainsboro; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard Harrington, 84
Funeral for Richard Bernard "Dick" Harrington, was held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 at 11 a.m. from Webb-Sumner United Methodist Church, Webb, Miss. The Rev. Jerry Wages officiated. Burial was in Christ Church Cemetery, Bastrop, La.
He died Monday, Dec. 31.
Mr. Harrington was born in Collinston, La., to William Harrington and Mabel Claire Waltmon.
Survivors include his wife, Erline Jordan Harrington of Hernando, Miss.; two daughters, Brenda Harrington Skipper of Collierville, Tenn., and Virginia Harrington Yates of Germanton, Tenn.; one niece, Kathryn Harrington Gay of Garfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack Biggers, Mike Lee, Stanford Little, Charles Moody, Larry Smith, Rob Yates and Scott Yates.
Womble Funeral Home of Charleston, Miss., had charge of arrangements.

Emma Scott Overstreet, 90
DELLWOOD- Funeral for Mrs. Emma Lee Scott Overstreet, 90, was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary. The Rev. William Thompson officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery of Dellwood.
She died Monday, Jan. 14 at the Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Overstreet was a native of Emanuel County. She was widow of the late Elijah Overstreet and co-owner and operator of Overstreet Grocery in Dellwood for 40 years. She was the oldest living member of Dellwood United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen O. Lee and Annette O. Lindsey both of Swainsboro; one brother, Hilton Scott of Stone Mountain; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ennis Scott, Douglas Overstreet, Boyd Palmore, Jeff Overstreet, Jackie Overstreet and Scotty Overstreet.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

James L. Wilson, 71
CRESTVIEW, FLA.- Funeral for James L. "Jimmy" Wilson, 71, was held Monday, Jan. 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. from First Assembly of God Church of Crestview. Burial followed at Old Bethel Cemetery.
He died Friday, Jan. 11 at a local nursing home.
A native of Norristown, Mr. Wilson moved to Florida in 1954. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the Florida Highway Patrol where he was a communications operator. Mr. Wilson served in the Korean conflict and was a decorated veteran, he received three purple hearts and the soldier's medal. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and served 12 years on the board of directors with the Auburn Water System. He was a member of the Lions Club were her served as treasurer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Irene Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor McCullom of Cretview, Fla.; on son, Ronnie Wilson of Crestview, Fla.; three brothers, Carsel Wilson of Orlando, Fla., Charles Larry Wilson of Norristown, and Brooks Wilson of Killen, Tex.; two sisters, Sarah Nell Braddy of Soperton and Shelba Jean Youmans of Swainsboro; and one grandson.
Whitehurst Funeral Home of Crestview, Fla. had charge of arrangements.

Maurine M. McDaniel, 63

SWAINSBORO Funeral for Maurine M. McDaniel, 63, was held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary. The Rev. Bunny Hudson and the Rev. Tom Shepherd officiated.
Shee died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. McDaniel was a native of Treutlan County, retired from Swainsboro Sportswear and was a former employee of Ithaca Industries in Swainsboro. She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church and attended Hawhammock Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter , Juanita Brown of Swainsboro, Ga.; two sons, Billy Brinson, Jeff Brinson of Swainsboro, Ga.; one sister, Ann Smith of Swainsboro; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Smith, Lee Smith, Allen Amerson, Bob Jones, Pete McKenzie and Craig Richardson.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jimmy Smith and Gerald Marsh.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
