Thetus Lanier Douglas, 70

KITE--Funeral for Thetus Lanier Douglas, 70, was held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Douglas and Elder Reed Davis officiating. Burial was at Sardis Cemetery.
He died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital of Augusta after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Douglas was the son of the late Walter G. and Mary Flanders Douglas. He was a farmer and member of Johnson County Farm Bureau. He served on Board of Directors of Pineland Telephone Company and also served in the U.S. Army. He attended Sardis Primitive Baptist Church where he was chairman of the cemetery fund.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Wilson Douglas of Kite; two daughters, Joanna Harrison of Kite and Leahdonna Douglas of Millegeville; three sisters, Corliss Allen of Lake City, Fla., Sybal Williams and Etheyl Sconyers, both of Kite; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Todd Fortner, Danny Fortner, Harry Martin, John Powell, Lintorn Brett and William Brett.
Honorary pallbearers were Board of Directors of Pineland Telephone Company.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Holton, 80

STATESBORO--Funeral for Ruth L. Holton, 80, was held Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Jake A. Futch Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah.
She died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Holton was a native of Emanuel County and lived in Statesboro since 1976. She retired from K-Mart as personnel manager after 17 years. She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church of Savannah.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Nelson of S.C.; two sons, Larry Holton of Griffin and Bruce Holton of Savannah; two sisters, Geneva Page of Swainsboro and Johnnie McGowan of Soperton; two brothers, Charlie Lively of Salt Lake City, Utah and Malcolm Hall of Soperton.
Jake A. Futch Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Lonnie Leroy Craft Sr., 83

COLUMBIA, S.C.--Funeral for Lonnie Leroy Craft Sr., 83, will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church of Columbia, S.C. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
He died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Craft was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Columbia to the late John Henry and Jessie Beulah Wages Craft. He was retired from Roddey Packing Company and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the Barcus Sunday school class.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Womack Craft of Midville; five daughters, Jeannie Craft Castine, Tina Craft Sturgeon, Bootsie Craft Gleaton, Frances Jon-Lyn Craft-Matthews and Melody Craft Hill, all of Columbia, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Linda W. Kirkland of Midville; one son, Lonnie L. Craft Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; one stepson, Ronnie J. Womack of Swainsboro; eight grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel of Columbia, S.C. has charge of arrangements.

James Edwards, 72

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for James Edwards, 72, will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Gethsemene Baptist Church of Lexsy with the Rev. Larry McMillin officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Ford Cemetery near Nunez.
He died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Emanuel County, Mr. Edwards attended public schools and was a farmer. He was also a member of Gethsemene Baptist Church of Lexsy.
Survivors include his father, Porter Edwards of Stillmore; two sisters, Mae Alice Brinson of Swainsboro and Dorothy Gillis of Augusta; two brothers, Eddie Edwards and George Edwards, both of Lexsy.
Reno Tapley Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Llewellyn Vell Reid, 50

ADRIAN--Funeral for Llewellyn Vell Reid, 50, was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Phillips Chapel Holiness Church with Bishop Phillips officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at St. Mary Hospital of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Mr. Reid was born Jan. 4, 1953, in Norristown to Rosa Lee Reid and the late Merdia Drummer.
Survivors include his wife, Maddie Reid of Adrian; his mother, Rosa Lee Reid of Swainsboro; three sisters, Charlene Drummer of Swainsboro, Betty Jackson and Denise Drummer, both of Adrian; one brother, Aurelous Reid of Swainsboro.
Pallbearers were Verlon Gillis, Terry Gillis, Alexander Shipman, Vernon Gillis, Billy Gillis and London Lott.
Honorary pallbearers were James Marion, Alfonzo Durden, Leon Ricks, Joe Marion, Thomas Burnett and Shawn Watson.
Mosley's Funeral Home, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Claude Wadley, 88

SSWAINSBORO--Funeral for Claude Wadley, 88, was held Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Smith Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Benji Waters officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Emanuel Medical Center following and extended illness.
Mr. Wadley was born Feb. 14, 1915 to Lonnie and Lula Bostic Wadley. He was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Roma Lee Wadley preceded him in death.
Survivors include six daughters, Ossie Ola Wadley of Augusta, Lowinder Bell of Alexandria, Claudia Ester Tillman, Johnnie Mae Thomas, Mary Lee Wadley and Mary Ester Wadley, all of Swainsboro; four sons, Jessie Wadley, Otis Wadley, Lawrence Wadley Sr. and Hurlon Wadley, all of Swainsboro; 35 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons.
Mosley's Funeral Home, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Walter Hendrix Farmer, 85

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Walter Hendrix Farmer, 85, was held Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Bob Blankenship officiating. Burial was at Eastbrook Cemetery.
He died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Emanuel County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Farmer was retired owner and operator of Greyhound Bus Station and Granny's Dress Shop. He was a World War II Army veteran participating in North Africa and Italy campaigns. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Jeanette Shaw Farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Morgan and Nannette Williams, both of Swainsboro; one son, Jerry Farmer of Statesboro; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Blaine Welborn, Leon Mitchell, Kerney Lamb, Bobby Wilson, Curley Kitchens, George Hostilo, John Ellis and Asa Garrett.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Maria J. Mendoza, 22

SWAINSBORO--Rosary services for Maria J. Mendoza, 22, were held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. and funeral mass was at 2 p.m. at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary Chapel with Father Brian LaBurt and Father Victor Subb officiating. Burial was at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
She died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after a brief illness.
Mrs. Mendoza was a native of Mexico and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Andy Medino of Swainsboro; one son, Daniel Mendoza Medino of Swainsboro; her parents Julio and Silvia Rangel Mendoza of Swainsboro; four sisters, Valeria Mendoza, Maria Elena Mendoza, Griselda Mendoza, and Daniela Mendoza, all of Swainsboro; two brothers, Roberto Mendoza of Memphis, Tenn. and Jesus Mendoza of Swainsboro.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Louie Hadden, 55

MIDVILLE--Funeral for Louie Hadden, 55, was held Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Hines Baptist Church near Midville with the Rev. Homer Aspray and the Rev. Jessie Bowen officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
He died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia after an extended illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Hadden was a self-employed painter and served in the Marines during the Vietnam era.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Hadden of Midville; two daughters, Cynthia Bowen of Midville and Jane Radford of Summertown; one sister, Nancy Lewis of Evans; three brothers, Harry Hadden, Melvin Hadden and Lonnie Hadden, all of Swainboro; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tommy Hadden, Charlie Hadden, Steve Hadden, Michael Oglesby, Chris Oglesby and Craig Oglesby.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Margie H. Williams, 62

KITE--Funeral for Margie H. Williams, 62, was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Kite Church of God with the Rev. Allen Meeks and the Rev. Lamar Kersey officiating. Burial was at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
She died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at her residence.
A native of Candler County, Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Odell Clifton and Effie Cobb Harvell. She attended Kite Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie S. Williams of Kite; two sons, Billy Ray Williams and Warren Clifton Williams, both of Kite; four daughters, Sherry Jean Purvis of Kite, Patricia Ann Wheeler of Harlem, Judy Faye Riner and Brenda Kay Creech, both of Swainsboro; three sisters, Jean Hendrix of Claxton, Mildred Brown and Erma Boyett, both of Metter; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Southern Heritage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
