George A. Scarboro, 77

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for George A. Scarboro, 77, was held Monday, June 16 at Tomlinson Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Elder Tommy Rountree and Elder Woodrow Beasley officiating. Burial was held at Coleman's Chapel Cemetery.
He died Saturday, June 14 at his residence.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Scarboro was a retired salvage yard operator and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Mills of Swainsboro and Cheryl Denise Price of Meeks; one son, George Edward Scarboro of Swainsboro; two sister, Birtha Mae Stapleton of Kite and Lillie Mae Harmon of Augusta; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Denny Barrett, Carl Leaptrott, Morris Mitchell, Ken Elliott, Loran Scarboro and Wayne Scarboro.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Alice Pauline Mullis Keene, 82

TWIN CITY--Graveside services for Alice Pauline Mullis Keene, 82, was held Wednesday, June 11 at Swainsboro City cemetery wit Dr. Bob Blankenship officiating.
She died Wednesday, June 11 at Twin View Nursing Home in Twin City after an extended illness.
Mrs. Keene was a native of Laurens County and the wife of the late Luther Keene.
Survivors include two half-sisters, Nancy Mullis and Diane Mullis of Dublin.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Annie Press Givens, 75

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Annie Press Givens was held Wednesday, June 11 at 3 p.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Brinson and Rev. James Love officiating. Burial was held at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
She died Saturday, June 7 at Emanuel Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Louisville, Jefferson County, on March 13, 1928 to the late John Givens and Lessie Givens. She moved to Emanuel County in the early 1940s and resided in Norristown. She was a member of Garden Grove Church in Louisville and was a homemaker and chef. She was the mother of 10 children. Two children, James Givens and Sylvester Givens, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Julia King, Tuesday Bynes and Dorothy Wicker, of Swainsboro; and Donnell Cross of Douglas; four sons, Tommy Givens and Billy Givens of Swainsboro; Charlie Givens of Soperton; and Matthew Givens of Reidsville; one sister, Mrs. Edith Webb of Swainsboro; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers were David Phillips, Richard Rountree, Joe Cephus, Joe Johnson, Richard Habersham, Jason Brown.
Mosley's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Hattie Lou Raiford Youmans, 80

TWIN CITY--Funeral for Hattie Lou Raiford Youmans, 80, will be held Thursday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Nunez Baptist Church with Rev. Gerrald Inman officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Church in Lexsy.
She died Tuesday, June 17 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro after a brief illness.
Mrs. Youmans was a native of Emanuel County, a homemaker and a member of Nunez Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Thomas R. Youmans.
Survivors include three daughters, Faye Y. Rountree and Joan Y. Davis, of Swainsboro; and Connie Y. Lee of Savannah; two sisters, Rhobie Stroud of Swainsboro; and Nell R. Suggs of Millen; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Roger Youmans, Kim Youmans, Boyd Palmore, Edwin Warren, Emmitt Warren, Wayne Raiford and Tim Warren. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Hooks, Gerald Hooks, Charles Hooks, Wendell Hooks and Bob Youmans.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Jean Miles Jordan, 53

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Jean Miles Jordan, 53, will be held Thursday, June 19 at Greater St. James Baptist Church at 12 noon with Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
She died Saturday, June 14 at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro after an extended illness.
Mrs. Miles was a native of Emanuel County where she attended public schools and was a member of Greater St. James Baptist Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Jordan Sr.; five children, Rico Miles, Catina Jordan, Samuel Jordan Jr., Eric Jordan and Latarsha Cowart, all of Swainsboro; her father and mother, Arthur Miles and Mrs. Mary Miles; a sister, Ms. Rose Miles; and a brother, Andre' Ricky Miles, all of Swainsboro.
Reno Tapley Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Beamus Douglas, 79

ADRIAN--Funeral for Beamus Douglas, 79, will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Arthur Conley officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
He died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his residence after a brief illness.
Mr. Douglas was a native of Emanuel County, was a retired sewing machine mechanic, an avid gardener and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Douglas of Adrian; two sons, Larry Douglas of Adrian; and Roger Douglas of Swainsboro; a sister, Katie Glisson of Rincon; a bother, Roy Douglas of Adrian; six grandchildren, Mike Douglas, Shon Douglas, Anthony Douglas, Eric Douglas, Shep Douglas and Joni Flanders; and one great-grandchild, Courtney Douglas.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Virginia Brantley Hood, 95

TENNILLE--Graveside services for Virginia Brantley Hood, 95, will be held Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille with Rev. Dewey Norton officiaitng. She died Tuesday, July 15, 2003.
Mrs. Hood was a native of Washington County but made her home in Milledgeville. She worked with the Naval Ordinance Plant and Belk-Matthews. She was the widow of the late John Ralph Hood and was a member of First Baptist Church of Milledgeville.
Survivors include two nieces, Charla Cole of Twin City; and Beth Hemby of Louisville.
Moores Funeral Home of Milledgeville has charge of arrangements.

Martha R. Woods

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Martha R. Woods was held Sunday, July 13, 203 at 3 p.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Brinson and Elder D.G. Mosley officiating. Burial was in Burke County Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Woods was a native of Burke County and a member of Johnson Grove Baptist Church. She was the mother of 11 children where one, Lonzie Woods Jr., preceded her death.
Survivors include seven daughters, Margret Alexander and Jeanne Saddler of Elberton; Sallie Byrd, Carrie Jones, Janie Woods and Peggy Woods, all of Swainsboro; and Johnnie M. Williams of Midville; three sons, Nathaniel Woods of Summertown; Jimmy Woods of Swainsboro; and Percy Woods of Midville; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Thurston Barney, Vernell Worthen, Joseph Johnson, Vick Wilcher, Calvin Bradford and Louthez Williams.
Mosley's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Rev. Curtis McKinney

EAST ORANGE, N.J.--Funeral for Rev. Curtis McKinney was held Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Brinson and Elder D. G. Mosley officiating and Minister Donald Keith McKinney assisting. He died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at East Orange Memorial Hospital in East Orange, N.J. following an extended illness.
He was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ned McKinney of Oak Park. He attended Oak Park public school and was ordained by the late Rev. M.J. Jeffer into the ministry of Greater St. James Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Alma McKinney of Swainsboro; a daughter, Sandra Savage of Augusta; six sons, Chris McKinney of Virginia; Donald McKinney of Augusta; Milton McKinney of Orlando, Fla.; Frederick McKinney of Valdosta; and Kraig McKinney and Felix McKinney of Swainsboro; two sisters in Miami, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Leon Ricks, Roger Richard, Joseph L. Jackson and Anthony Merrion.
Mosley's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ruth Durden Boyd, 93

MCRAE--Graveside services for Ruth Durden Boyd, 93, was held Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae. The Rev. William Connell officiated.
She died Sunday, July 13, 2003.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Twin City to the late Fair Durden and Carrie Dickson Durden. A past resident of McRae, she had lived in Albany for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of McRae and attended Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany. She was the widow of Herbert Lee Boyd.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Donald L. Boyd of Leesburg; and Robert Charles Boyd of Swainsboro; a stepdaughter, Anne Boyd Connally of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Yarborough of Altanta; three brothers, F. Dickson Durden, of Twin City; J. Eugene Durden of Roswell; and Walter David Durden of Williamsburg, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae had charge of arrangements.
