Ira Leon Hall, 77

NUNEZ--Funeral for Ira Leon Hall, 77, was held Friday, July 25, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Gary Johnson and Elder William Bishop officiating. Burial was in New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his residence after a lengthy illness. A native and lifelong resident of Emanuel County, Mr. Hall was owner of Matt's Mart in Nunez. He was a member of Emanuel County Rural Firefighters Association, Emanuel County First Responders and was chief of Nunez Fire Department.
He was a member of Swainsboro Lions Club where he served as treasurer. Mr. Hall was a member of the Investors Club and of the American Red Cross where he was awarded the 20 Gallon Blood Donor Pin. He was a veteran of World War II having served with Battery E 80th Airborne Antiaircraft Battalion and with the 82nd Airborne. He had retired from Continental Woodlands and was a member and deacon of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Kirby Canady Hall of Nunez; five children, Donald E. Hall of Swainsboro; Carol Delynne Hall Eicher of Collierville, Tenn.; Sheila Canady of Macon; Shirley C. White of Hazelhurst; and Linda C. Parrish of Nunez; two brothers, Charles Hall and Tom Hall of Swainsboro; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Matt Snellgrove, Marc Snellgrove, Todd Hooks, Donald Edward Hall II, Jeffery Eicher, Jason Eicher, Chris Bedgood, Tyler Hooks, George Canady III, Josh Bedgood and Maranda Odom. Honorary pallbearers were John Torpy, Frank Coleman, Danny Mason, Otis Daniels, Poke Bennett, Bernard Canady, Gary Bell, Dorsey Peebles, Johnson Moore, members of Swainsboro Lions Club and Emanuel County Rural Firefighters.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Stewart Earl Bradly Street

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Stewart Earl Bradley Street was held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah A.M.E.. Church with Elder D.G. Mosley officiating and Rev. Betty Stephens assisting. Burial was in St. Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center. He was born to the late Lucille W. Delph on June 23, 1924. He was raised by Godparents James and Ida Street. He was educated in the Emanuel County School System and continued his education at Savannah State College. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E.. Church and served as secretary for more than 50 years. He was a member of New Hope Lodge #115 for 52 years and of Eastern Star Society. He organized the Union Gospel Singers to which he was dedicated for 57 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Stewart; six daughters, Charlie Mae Thomas and Betty Phillips of Harrisburg, Penn.; Diane Fowler of Clearwater, Fla.; Martha Thomas, Gwendolyn Street and Veda Jordan, all of Swainsboro; two sons, Robert Williams and Ervin Street of Atlanta; 18 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews ad friends.
Pallbearers were Mason Lodge #115 and honorary pallbearers were Union Gospel Singers.
Mosley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Lucy Brown

TWIN CITY--Funeral for Mrs. Lucy Brown was held Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at Rountree Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Pierce officiating and Rev. Amos Handsom assisting. Burial was in Rountree Chapel Church Cemetery.
She died Sunday, July 20 at Twin View Nursing Home in Twin City following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Emanuel County and a member of Rountree Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cherry Brown of Twin City; a son, Louis Walker of Twin City; four grandchildren a great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews and relatives,
Pallbearers were deacons and friends.
Mosley Funeral Home had charge of arangements.

Evelyn Derriso Moore, 81

METTER--Funeral for Evelyn Derriso Moore, 81, was held Sunday, July 27, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Swainsboro with Rev. Terry Chenney officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Mrs. Moore died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Metter Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Elton Robert Moore. She was a member of Swainsboro Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Joann Finley of Twin City; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Erma Wiggins Moss, 92

KITE--Funeral for Erma Wiggins Moss, 92, was held Friday, July 25, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Allen Meeks and Rev. Lamar Kersey officiating. Burial was in Kite City Cemetery.
She died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin after an extended illness. She was a native of Crawford County and resided in Johnson County for 44 years. She was a homemaker, a member of Kite First Baptist Church and was the wife of the late James Wesley Moss.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Wiggins Wilkerson of Kite; four sons, Cary C. Moss and Robert R. Moss of Macon; and Jimmy Moss and Ernest Moss of Kite; a sister, Ella May Boyt of Barnesville; a brother, Ernest Wiggins of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tim Moss, Curtis Moss, Curtis Moss Jr., Wesley Moss, Jason Moss, Darien Caraway and Daniel Price.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

James Albert Vaughn, Jr., 71

SWAINSBORO--Graveside service for James Albert Vaughn Jr., 71, will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Swainsboro with Rev. Larry Hickey officiating.
He died Monday, July 28, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Vaughn was a native of Ben Hill County. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired construction worker and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bessent Vaughn of Swainsboro; a daughter, Jewel Collins of Swainsboro; five sons, Allen Clanton of Metter; Joseph Vaughn and James Vaughn III of Swainsboro; Timmy Vaughn of Statesboro; and David Vaughn of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Jessie Watson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Abraham Vaughn of Jacksonville, Fla.; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

John Thomas "JT" Sherrod, Jr.

MIDVILLE--Graveside service for John Thomas "JT" Sherrod Jr. will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Union Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.
He died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at St. Joseph's Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Sherrod was a native of Emanuel County and was retired from Champion International and a farmer. He was a member of Union Grove Methodist Church and delivered The Augusta Chronicle for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Shelva Jean Sherrod of Midville; three daughters, Twana Buice of Lawrenceville; Delilah Eastmead of Swainsboro; and Crystal Beasley of Oak Park; a son, John T. Sherrod III of Midville; a brother, Arthur Sherrod of Midville; two sisters, Geraldine Womack of Millen; and Mae Jean Coleman of Midville; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews.

Jacob "Jake" Jenkins, 86

SCOTT--Jorgreson Mortuary of Wadley announces the death of Jacob "Jake" Jenkins, 86, of Swainsboro. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date. He died Tuesday, July 29 at Scott Nursing Home in Scott.
Survivors include a son, William "Pete" Jenkins of Emanuel County; two daughters, Dorothy J. Parrish of Savannah; and Judy J. Williams of Rahway, N.J.
Jorgreson Mortuary in Wadley has charge of arrangements.

Bobby Fay Gentry

MILLEN--Graveside service for Bobby Fay Gentry, 67, was held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. David Hardee officiating. He died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at Jenkins County Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Gentry was a native of Emanuel County and the son of the late Robert Frances and Ruby Ellen Pierson Gentry. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a sister, Diane Malloy of Greensboro, N.C.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Geraldine (Jeri) Stevens, 59

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Geraldine (Jeri) Stevens, 59, was held Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Brantley officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dellwood. She died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 at Savannah Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Stevens was born in Bulloch County to the late L.C. and Claricy Lockhart. she was homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God in Swainsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Stevens of Swainsboro; two sons, Cole Williams of Swainsboro; and James C. Williams of Gray; three stepchildren, Tim Stevens and Jeffrey Stevens of Swainsboro; and Stacy Mims of Dublin; a brother, L.C. Lockhart Jr. of North Carolina; eight grandchildren and none step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Merchon Dice, Ted Stockholm, Joey Mims, Steve Reeves, Tucker Stevens and Jeff Stevens.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

John H. Ackiss Sr., 68

NORRISTOWN--Funeral for John H. Ackiss Sr., 68, was held Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel Allen officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. He died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Mr. Ackiss was born on Knotts Island, N.C. and lived in Jacksonville, Fla. for many years after retiring from the United States Navy. He also retired from Methodist Hospital in Jacksonville as maintenance engineer.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude D. Ackiss of Norristown; two daughters, Carrie Sue Skondin of Portland, Oregon; and Jo-Ann Iles of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, John H. Ackiss II of Henderson, W.V.; Billy D. Freeman of Lyons; and Jerry L. (Von) Wilson of Norristown; two brothers, Guy Ackiss of Norfolk, Va.; and Carl Ackiss of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Ethel Johnson of Sparks, Nev.; and Eva McSweeney of Chenoa, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
