Kathleen Varnedoe

HINESVILLE -- Mrs. Kathleen Varnedoe, 88, died May 25 at her daughter's home.

She was a lifelong resident of Liberty County and a member of First United Methodist Church in Hinesville. She was the great-granddaughter of Charlton Hines, for whom Hinesville was named.

SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Patty V. and Ed Edwards of Hinesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl I. Varnedoe Jr. and Kuniko Varnedoe, and David Varnedoe Sr. and Mary Varnedoe, all of Hinesville; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 5 p.m. today in Flemington Cemetery.

Lola Washington

NEW YORK -- Mrs. Lola Washington of Brooklyn died May 9.

She was born in Hampton County, S.C.

SURVIVORS: three brothers, Jeremiah, Andrew and Bennye Lee Jenkins, all of Tampa, Fla.; five sisters, Ann Raimo of Hollis, N.Y., Carrie White and Alene Fair of Robertville, S.C., Dorothy Clark of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Martha Dobson of Hampton, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICE: 2 p.m. Saturday at Garvin-Garvin Funeral Home in Estill, S.C., burial in Jenkins Cemetery in Robertville.

Maribel W. Watson

BRUNSWICK -- Maribel Weldon Watson, 78, died May 23 at home.

She was born in Wetumpka, Ala., and lived in Glynn County the past nine years. She retired from First National Bank of Wetumpka as a loan officer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wetumpka.

SURVIVORS: a son, William F. Watson Jr. of St. Simons Island; a sister, Sara Ann Young of Wetumpka; a grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: noon-1:30 p.m. Sunday at Gassett Funeral Home, Wetumpka.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday in Wetumpka City Cemetery.

Minnie P. Williams

BLUFFTON -- Mrs. Minnie Pinckney Williams, 86, died May 21 at home.

She was born in Bluffton and was a member of First Zion Baptist Church in Bluffton. She was a cook for Camp St. Mary.

SURVIVORS: a brother, Ed Pinckney of Ridgeland; six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-grandson.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Bostick Funeral Home in Ridgeland.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Saturday at First Zion Baptist Church, burial in Jackville Cemetery in Bluffton.

Robert L. Young Jr.

FITZGERALD -- Robert L. "Rob" Young Jr., 48, of the Osierfield community, died May 23 at Tift General Hospital in Tifton.

He was born in Ben Hill County and lived in the Osierfield community since 1990. He was a chief warrant officer at Hunter Army Airfield before retiring from the Army. Later, he was a pilot for Georgia Forestry Service. He was a Vietnam veteran and Aviator of the Year at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a 1969 graduate of Daytona Mainland Senior High School in Daytona Beach, Fla.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Gwen Young of Fitzgerald; a son, Robert L. Young III of Osierfield; a daughter, Robyn L. Young of Savannah; a stepdaughter; Ashley R. Barrentine of Osierfield; his mother, Lois Young of Fitzgerald; two sisters, Mary Rau-Foster of Brentwood, Tenn., and Terri Ott of Fitzgerald; his grandmother, Mary Dorminy of Fitzgerald; and a nephew, Joe Rau of Brentwood.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, burial in Osierfield Cemetery, Irwin County.

Margaret F. Knable

RICHMOND HILL -- Margaret Florence Knable, 83, died Oct. 11 at Liberty Regional Hospital.

She was a native of Newport, Ky., and a resident at Bryan County Nursing Care. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star and St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Richmond Hill.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Karen Rossi of Richmond Hill; a son, William C. Knable of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren, including Stephen and Angela Rossi, both of Richmond Hill.

The funeral will be held later in Kentucky with burial in Alexandria Cemetery in Kentucky.

Jennis Strickland

BRUNSWICK -- Jennis Strickland, 72, died Oct. 8 at Sunbridge Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born and educated in Tattnall County. He was a sawmill worker for many years and a member of Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Mary Strickland of Glennville; four daughters, Brigette and Lorena Denise Strickland, both of Glennville, Ruby Strickland of Columbus and Phyllis Gray of Tulsa, Okla.; four sons, Elmer Strickland of Glennville, Orlin Lynn Strickland of Collins, Staff Sgt. Willie James Strickland of Fort Hood, Texas, and Sgt. David Strickland of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Edward White Jr. of Miami; and seven grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-8 p.m. today at King & Sons Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Wednesday at King & Sons Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, burial in Greater Zachariah Cemetery.

Lois H. Vann

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Lois Hutchinson Vann, 74, died Oct. 9 at Earl Hadlow Hospice Center.

She was a native of Metter, Ga., and the widow of Robert A. Vann.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Ronald A. Vann of Jacksonville and Charles Vann of Birmingham, Ala.; four sisters, Mae H. Shealy of Anderson, S.C., Louise H. Branscomb of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Amelia H. Brock of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Charlaine H. Clutter of Statesboro; two brothers, Carl Hutchinson of Statesboro and Don Hutchinson of Brunswick; three granddaughters, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today in Arlington Memorial Park Mortuary in Jacksonville, burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Wendell W. Ward

TWIN CITY -- Wendell W. Ward, 59, died Oct. 10 at home.

He was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County and a retired carpenter and building contractor.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Theresa Ward of Summertown and Ronda Kirkland of Twin City; three brothers, W.C. Ward of Savannah, Harley Ward of Marianna, Fla., and John Ward of Statesboro; two sisters, Mary Ann Donaldson of Twin City and Cola Holloway of Stillmore; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Swainsboro, burial in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Twin City.

Elnora Williams

Elnora Williams, 82, died Oct. 10 at Savannah Specialty Care Center.

She was originally from Glennville and was the widow of Brit Lawton Williams. She was a former member of First African Baptist Church in Glennville and a member of First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah. Before retiring, she worked at Memorial Medical Center in the Laundry Department.

SURVIVORS: a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Algerine Williams of Savannah.

VISITATION: 6-7 p.m. today at First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Jerusalem Baptist Church, burial in Hillcrest Abbey West in Savannah.

BAXLEY -- Elizabeth W. Wright, 26, died Oct. 9 from injuries in an auto accident.

She was a native of Crawford, Ark., and lived in Appling County the past two years. She attended First United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Ray Wright of Baxley; two sons, Blake Austin Wright and Garrett Wesley Wright, both of Baxley; her mother and stepfather, Ida and Dewey Crawford of Roe, Ark.; a sister, Norma Sue Welshans of De Witt, Ark.; two brothers, Bobby Welshans of Lebanon Junction, Ky., and Alfred Welshans of Douglasville; three nephews and a niece.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Swain Funeral Home in Baxley.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, burial in Red Oak Cemetery.

Nelle Cato

STATESBORO -- Nelle Cato, 81, died Oct. 4 at University Hospital in Augusta.

She was born in Wadley and lived in the same house for 77 years. She was a resident of Southern Manor Retirement Inn. She retired from Georgia Power Co. after many years of service.

She was a member of Wadley Baptist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class and Sallie Lanier Missionary Group.

SURVIVORS: a sister, Eleanor C. Warren of Tennille; nieces, Mary Frances Blalock of Sylvania, Colleen Fleming of Wrens, Kathryn Crawford of Statesboro, Wynelle Brantley of Tennille, Mary Anna Raffensperger of Alpharetta and Jimmie Perdue of Augusta; a nephew, Robbie Warren of Waynesville, N.C.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. today at Wadley Baptist Church.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at Wadley Baptist Church, burial in Bethany Cemetery, Wadley.
