William H. Dixon, 44

William H. Dixon, 44, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence. The Bacon County native had lived in this area most of his life. He was a graduate of Glennville High School and was employed with Claxton Poultry Farms in Glennville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie T. and Jessie Dixon and foster father, Cecil Godwin.
He is survived by brothers and sisters, Faye Griffin of Brooklet, James Dixon of Lyons, Jessie Martin of Jacksonville, FL, John E. Dixon of Savannah and Stanley Smith of Baxley; foster mother, Vera Godwin of Glennville; foster brothers, Jimmy Godwin of Ellabelle, Kenneth Godwin of Jacksonville, FL and Tommy Godwin of Reidsville and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest Dyal officiating. Burial followed in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Pallbearers were family members.

Mike Graham, 50

Mike Graham, 50, died Saturday, July 6, 2008, after a brief illness. The native of Florida lived in Collins and Hagan for several years, and resided in Statesboro most of his adult life. Mike was employed with Georgia Southern University Physical Plant as the Carpenter Supervisor for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, James Graham. Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Connie Graham of Statesboro; a son and his girlfriend, Alex Graham and Callie Paige of Statesboro; a daughter and son - in - law, Rachel and Adam Cowart of Reidsville; a stepdaughter and her husband, Olivia and Brandon O’Mahoney of Statesboro; two stepsons, Adam Aseron and his wife Lauren and Jonathan Aseron, all of Austin, TX; four granddaughters, Morgan and Mollie Cowart of Reidsville and Valor and Atlas O’Mahoney of Statesboro; his mother, Charlotte Graham of Statesboro; a sister and brother - in - law, Gina and David Tuohey of Slidell, LA; a brother, Jeffery Graham of Macon; his mother - in - law and father - in - law, Alfred and Irene Pritchard of Hannibal, NY; three nephews, Jonathan, Joel and Joshua and his beloved Jack Russell, “Copper”.
Funeral Services were held Monday, July 7, 2008, in the Chapel of Joiner - Anderson Funeral Home with Ronnie Alderman officiating. Interment followed in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Tex Sheffield, Michael Iler, Dwight Allmond, Barry Hackle, Bill Ragans, Tim Barker, Tommy Brannen and Alex Morris. Honorary pallbearers were employees of the Georgia Southern University Physical Plant.

Freddie Lewis “Bouy” Love, 76

Freddie Lewis “Bouy” Love, 76, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after a short illness.
He was born in Swainsboro on September 15, 1931, and moved to Savannah in 1948. He was a resident of Bloomingdale for 50 years and was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church in Bloomingdale.
He is survived by his wife, Annie W. Love; a son, Gary Love; a daughter, Mary Ann Tucker; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 7, 2008, in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, with graveside funeral following at Little Flock Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.

Lucille Green Odom, 85

Lucille Green Odom, 85, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Tara Nursing Home in Thunderbolt. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was a clerk at the Chamber of Commerce Office for the City of Glennville and a member of the Eastern Star in Savannah. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Amanda DeLoach Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval Odom; a grandson, Jay Burkhalter and a son - in - law, Rochelle Rich Jr.
Survivors include daughters and sons - in - law, June C. Rich of Savannah, Ethel C. and Ronald Sikes of Columbia, SC, and Gail C. and Jerry D. Burkhalter of Glennville; brothers and sisters, Sydney Williams, Dorothy Collins, Clarence Green, Willie Mae Mills and Eunice Powell, all of Cobbtown; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Julian Larson officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Rich, Spencer Rich, Michael Robinson, Brandon Johnson, Luke Burkhalter and David Robinson.

David Carl Reynolds, 72

David Carl Reynolds, age 72, went to be with his wonderful Savior on Sunday, July 5, 2008, with his loving wife by his side.
David was born in Toombs County on December 23, 1935, to the late Clarence Reynolds and Ella Holland Reynolds. He had lived in Macon for many years and was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines, where he worked for many years. He loved worshipping the Lord and he was a devoted member of Bloomfield Church of God until he became ill, still attending when his health allowed.
David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice Harrison Reynolds; one son, Dennis Reynolds of Glennville; five grandchildren, Jessica, Deana and Derell Reynolds of Hardeeville, SC, and Kyle and Jeffrey Winningham of Savannah; one sister, Josephine Whitfield (Randy) of Reidsville; brothers, Lamar Reynolds (Kathryn) of Reidsville and Reuben Reynolds (Trudy) of Warner Robins; a very loving father in law and best fishing partner anyone could ever have, Wade Harrison of Toombs County; brothers in law, David Harrison (Angie) of Athens and Randy Harrison of Toombs County; and sister in law, Josephine Harrison Toole (Bobby) of Uvalda.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. The Reverend Reginald McCarn and Mr. Fred Horton officiated. Interment followed in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Earl Ballantine Simmons, 90

Earl Ballantine Simmons, 90, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Hilliard, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Simmons was born July 15, 1917, in Jacksonville, FL. He was a retired Baptist minister and schoolteacher. He was ordained at Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka, Florida and educated at Stetson University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He taught Language Arts at Joseph Stilwell for many years, and his last pastorate was at Bayard Baptist Church.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Jimmie Tucker Simmons, formerly of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - law, Kathy and Richard Prosser and Carol and Jerry Wollitz; grandchildren, Rob Placek, Mike and Pam Placek, Amy W. and Ron Comeens, Gerald and Lee Anne Wollitz, Jason and Melissa Wollitz, Justin and Sara Wollitz and Jared and Lori Wollitz; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with grandsons, Reverend Gerald Wollitz and Jason Wollitz, officiating. Burial followed in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Rob Placek, Mike Placek, Jason Wollitz, Justin Wollitz, Jared Wollitz and Ron Comeens. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Glennville First Baptist Church.
Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32257; or to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Glennville, 321 West Barnard, Glennville, GA 30427.

Russell Weldon, 57

Russell Weldon, 57, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville, GA.
He is survived by his children, Russell Weldon, Esther Richardson, Felicia Beatty, Trina Richardson, Marcell Beatty and Stephanie Weldon King; one sister, Doreen Weldon; three brothers, Will, O.J. and Sylvester Weldon; six grandchildren and a host of cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at James E. Churchman, Jr. Funeral Home, 345 - 13th Avenue, Newark, New Jersey.

James R. “Bobby” Wilkinson, 80

James R. “Bobby” Wilkinson, 80, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing home after an extended illness. He was a native and life - long resident of Tattnall County. He was a 1946 graduate of Glennville High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. After returning from service he farmed for several years and was employed with Rayonier, Inc. He worked with civil service at Ft. Stewart and retired after 27 years as a forestry technician. He was a member of the Glennville First Christian Church, where he served as deacon and elder, and was also a member of the VFW Post #8379.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Swindell Wilkinson; his parents, Dewey and Mary Wilkinson; a sister, Anne Kortrey and a brother, Samuel Wilkinson.
He is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Gary and Linda Swindell of Waynesboro; daughter, Rebecca Swindell of Denver, Colorado; sister, Nell Armstrong and Alice Wilkinson, both of Glennville; brothers, Roger Wilkinson and Gene Wilkinson, both of Glennville; grandson, Elak Swindell of Waynesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Glennville First Christian Church with Reverend Wendell Miller officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were S.E. Smith, Mickey Wasson, Bobby Kicklighter, Mike Gutierrez, Elton Durrence and Joe Troha. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and elders and their wives of First Christian Church.

Elton McCord Anderson, 95

Elton McCord Anderson, 95, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the home of his daughter, Janis A. McCurdy. He was born in Tattnall County on December 16, 1912 to the late Henry Hampton and Cassie Sullivan Anderson. He graduated in 1932 as Valedictorian of Ways Station High School in Bryan County. He attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro. He was president of the Supply Company from 1980 - 2005 and was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sue Nell Dreggors Anderson and son, Robert Elton Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Janis Anderson McCurdy son - in - law, Jimmy of Glennville; grandson, Lee McCurdy and wife Stephanie of Shellman Bluff; granddaughter, Lisa McCurdy Barry and husband Rob of Glennville; six great grandchildren, Turner, Mollie and Anderson McCurdy of Shellman Bluff and Blake, Cassie and Amanda Barry of Glennville; other relatives, Samantha Griffin, Racile and Barbara Dreggors, William and Novadean Dreggors, Elaine Dreggors, Larry Dreggors, nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 27, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Brother Robert Kicklighter officiating. Burial followed in Pigott Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Dreggors, Steve Dreggors, Daniel Dreggors, Mark Griffin, Glenn Purcell and Ronald (Bo) Davis.
Remembrances may be made to Cornerstone Bible Church, P.O. Box 598, Glennville, GA 30427 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
