Virginia Durden O’Neal, 90

Mrs. Virginia Durden O’Neal, age 90, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 20, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred O’Neal and a daughter, Betty Williams.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Sandra and John O. Parker of Glennville; son, Ronnie O’Neal of Pooler; sister, Peggy Jones of Florida; brother, Sonny Durden of Lyons; four grandchildren, four great - grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were the staff of Gamble Funeral Services.
Graveside Services were 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 21 at Reidsville City Cemetery with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte Anderson Parker, 86

Mrs. Charlotte Anderson Parker, 86, had her transition on Monday afternoon January 19, 2009, at North Spring Assisted Living. Mrs. Parker was born in Tattnall County, October 19, 1922, to the late Iley Anderson and Eva Anderson Howard. She was a retired hairdresser. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church, the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Guild, and served on the Reidsville UMC Administrative Board. She was a member of the Eastern Star and also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great - grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, C. Grady Parker; sister, Yvonne West; and step - father, James A. Howard.
She is survived by two daughters and sons - in - law, Libby and Neil Rogers, Brenda and Ted Tatum; two sons and daughters - in - law, Jerome and Ginger Parker, Wayman and Janice Parker, all of Reidsville; one brother, I. Donald Anderson (Sally) of Savannah; sister, Joyce A. Reynolds of Evans, GA; step - brother, Jimmy Howard (Virginia) of Martinez, GA; and sisters - in - law, Helen P. Harrelson of Pooler, GA, and Judy Tippins of Hinesville, GA; grandchildren, Phyllis and David Crews, Renee’ and John Howard, Trevor and Melissa Tatum, Brandon and Natalie Parker, all of Reidsville, GA, Ronald and Joy Rogers of Clermont, GA, SuzAnne and Smitty Lamb of Tifton, GA, Wendy and Perry Scarborough of Lake Park, GA, Haley and Sean Howard, Misty and Will Self, Jason and Avery Parker, all of Statesboro, GA; 18 great - grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were Ronald Rogers, Trevor Tatum, Jason Parker, Brandon Parker, Will Self and Caleb Crews. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class.
Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22 at the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Marc Foster, David Hudson and Steve Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

McClellan A. (Shorty) Rhiner, 73

McClellan A. (Shorty) Rhiner, 73, of Cobbtown, died Thursday, January 15, 2009. The native of Wauchula, FL, lived most of his life in Tattnall and Evans Counties. He attended Free Will Church and loved to go fishing.
Survivors: sons, Keith, Clyde, Rufus, Curtis and Adrian; daughter, Sandra Henry; sister, Betty Green.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 18, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at Old Anderson Cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home, Cobbtown –Metter, was in charge of the arrangements.

Rebecca Still, 60

Rebecca Still, 60, passed away January 13, 2009. She was born in Reidsville to the late Hymie A. Evans and Billie Sikes - Evans - Halstead. She received her undergraduate degree in 1974 from U.S.C. and master of education degree in 1988 from U.S.C. She retired from Barnwell County Public School System. She was a member of Blackville First Baptist Church, where she was an active deacon and a member of the Sarah Sunday School Class. She will be remembered for her witty personality, her love for her church, family, friends and the Carolina Gamecocks.
She was preceded in death by her father, James M. Kennedy.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Still; stepmother, Peggy Kennedy of Reidsville, GA; daughter, Courtney (Jody) Still; son, Aaron (Suzanne) Still; sister, Beverly (Ricky) Hodges; brother, Milton (Jeanna) Kennedy; special maternal aunt, Betty Sikes Kennedy of Reidsville; very special friends, Sherry Moore and Trudy Collins; grandchildren, Aubree, Cade and Clayton Still; honorary grandson, Kit Moore; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Folk Funeral Home in Williston, SC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Don Dickerson, 82

Don Dickerson, 82, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of his life. He was owner and operator of C & D Truck Stop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Dickerson.
He is survived by his children, Ann and Terry Dasher of Glennville and Charles and Glenda Dickerson of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Don Thompson, Vicki Bruce, Paige Dickerson, Ricky Dukes; two great grandchildren, Jagger Bruce and London Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Max Kennedy officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Mobley, Alex Rogers, Nick Rogers, Bobby Weathers, Joe Folsom, Bobby Folsom and Jay Folsom.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Victor Guadalupe Johnson, 8 months old

Victor Guadalupe Johnson, 8 months old, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009, at his residence after a short illness.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Johnson and father, Roberto Aguilera; foster parents are Carl Adams and Jan Campbell all of Collins; five sisters, Ruby Johnson, Savannah Campbell, Jessica Campbell, Justice Dangerfield, and Kendra Adams; five brothers, Billy Johnson, Jackson Campbell, Aaron Campbell, Landon Adams, and Joseph Adams; and other family and friends.
A private family Graveside Service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009, with Rev. Steve Kimbrell at Little Flock Church Cemetery in Collins.

Willie R. “Kenner” Kennedy, 83

Willie R. “Kenner” Kennedy, 83, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah since 1944 and was employed with civil service at Ft. Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield as a carpenter. He was a World War II Army Veteran and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Boyette Kennedy.
He is survived by his nephew, Mike Kennedy of Brunswick and other nieces and nephews; and a sister, Iola Briggs of Savannah.
Visitation will be held at 12 noon, on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Dr. Rick Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Giddens, Mitch Kennedy, Mike Horne, Andy Wilson, Jr., Jason Anderson and Chris Anderson.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

James “Elliott” Mack, 84

Mr. James “Elliott” Mack, 84, went home to his precious Savior on January 8, 2009. He was a loving husband and father and was retired from the U.S. Navy and Civil Service. He was a deacon and member of Arlington Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was also a Sunday School teacher and mentor to the youth. Elliott was a member of his church’s Hospital Ministry. Mr. Mack was a Mason and Eastern Star member in high standing.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, James Jr. (Jackie) and Timothy; two step - daughters, Agnes (James) Brabrand and Linda (Larry) Jarrett; one brother, Franklin (Carolyn) Mack and two sisters, Alene Paul and Shirley Cook; also, six grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren. Elliot was an avid genealogist and headed up family reunions. He loved the outdoors and gardening but most of all he loved home, family and his church.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 12, 2009, at Arlington Baptist Church, with Pastor Joe Newton officiating. Burial followed at Arlington Memorial Park.
Eternity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Elliott Melton Jr., 81

Henry Elliott Melton Jr., 81, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at his home.
The Savannah native lived in Metter for over 16 years. He was a WWII veteran serving in Asiatic Theater South Pacific. Mr. Melton worked for 30 years at Savannah Electric & Power Company. He was a member of Landrum Masonic Lodge #48 F & AM in Savannah for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Alma Jordan and his wife of 21 years, Catherine Linton Green.
Surviving are his daughter, Teresa Lytle (Bob) of Metter; son, Henry Elliott Melton III (Becky) of Dawsonville; step - children, Catherine Schramn (Ed) of Rochester, NY, Jeffery Green (Elizabeth) of Rincon, Emory J. Green (Lori) and William R. Green (Carol) both of Batavia, NY, and Brenda Tyler (Mike) of Rhode Island; many grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Hillcrest Abbey East in Savannah.
Remembrances may be made to The American Cancer Society.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel ~ Metter, was in charge of the arrangements.

Novidean Brannen Moore, 95

Novidean Brannen Moore, 95, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a retired motel owner/operator and a homemaker. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Moore.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, January 9, 2009, at Glennville City Cemetery with Elder David Summerford officiating.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
