WELLMAN - Irene Ruby Taylor was born icon November 29, 1918 in Burr Oak, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Nora (Shaffer) Fringer. She moved to Chicago with her family and they later moved to Missouri. She graduated form Shelby High School in New Boston, Missouri. Irene worked in housekeeping at a nursing home and motel; she also worked at Whitaker Cable Co. For 10 years. On February 28, 1939 she married icon Albert Hane in New Boston, Missouri. He died in 1959. On January 17, 1981 she married icon Novie Taylor in Brookfield, Missouri. After Novie died in 1991, Irene moved to Wellman, Iowa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman and the Dorcas Society. Irene died on Monday, February 2, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Irene is survived by a daughter Alberta Walker of Wellman; 2 sons - Clifton Hane of Kansas City, Missouri; Allen Hane of Cave City, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Albert Hane and Novie Taylor; and a step great granddaughter. Visitation will be held from 2 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in Bucklin, Missouri. Rev. Mark Conyers will officiate. A Memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Senior Center and the First Baptist Church of Wellman. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.

Williamsburg - Myron Leroy Misbach was born icon May 7, 1912 in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Jesse Davis and Emelia Wiese Misbach. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1929 He farmed following graduation. Myron was united in marriage to Alice Theresa Hartin August 11, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. They lived on and farmed the Misbach family farm until 1975 when the retired and moved to Williamsburg. Myron was active in Farm Bureau, St. Patrick and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches. He enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors and always enjoyed playing cards. Myron and Alice moved to the Walden Place in Iowa City in 1994, the Atrium Village in Hills in 2001 and to Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo in 2002. Myron died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo after a short illness at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by a daughter: Jovita (Darrell) Zuber of Marengo; a son: Greg (Gloria) Misbach of Filer, Idaho; a daughter - in - law: Barb Misbach Fiser of Cedar Rapids; eight Grandchildren: Bart (Mellissa) Zuber of Marengo, Fonda (Ray) Garringer and Blake ( Margie) Zuber all of Williamsburg, Faye (Josh) Swentkofske of Marion, Lyle (Andrea) Misbach of Kailwa - Kona, Hawaii, Neal Misbach of Nederland, Colorado, Kendra Misbach of Boise, Idaho and Doug ( Jennifer) Misbach of Holland, Ohio; nine great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; three sisters: Ila Morse Smith of Iowa City, Mildred Posey of Hills and Shirley Buswell of Marengo. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice September 2003, son Donald in 1969, a brother Wiese, two sisters: Dorothy Misbach and Wanda Edgerton, a great grandson Steven Esra Hilligas in 1994 and a grandson - in - law Scott Hilligas in 1995. Funeral Mass Of a Christian Burail will be Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 10:00a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.. Memorials are for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg or Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo.

Sarah Mildred Newhouse passed away April 28, 2004, at Colonial Manor in Middle Amana, Iowa of complications of age. A Memorial Service will be held May 15, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, Iowa by Rev. Don Ridenour. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes per her wish. Mrs. Newhouse is survived by two daughters, Marcia Clemmens and husband Gerald of Cedar Rapids and Muriel Kirkpatrick and husband Jerry of Lincoln City, Oregon; one son, Kelly Newhouse and wife Marsha of Robins, IA. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Karie Saupe and husband Tim of Lincoln, NE and seven grandsons, Keel Clemmens and wife Heidi of Macomb, IL, Kristopher Clemmens and wife Wendy of Scottsdale, AZ, Stacey Ehrenfelt and wife Tammy of Lincoln City, OR, Tracey Ehrenfelt and wife Jean of Tigard, OR, Shawn Ehrenfelt and wife Anita of Lincoln City, OR, Todd Newhouse and wife Joy of Cedar Rapids and Chad Newhouse and wife Molly of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are two great - granddaughters: Stephanie Ehrenfelt of Salem, OR and Hannah Newhouse of Cedar Rapids. Nine great - grandsons survive: Matthew and Benjamin Clemmens of Macomb, IL; Nathan and Nicholas Clemmens of Scottsdale, AZ; Ryan, Michael and Austin Ehrenfelt of Tigard, OR and Zachery and Bradley Ehrenfelt of Lincoln City, OR. She is also survived by six nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, two brothers; Armand Grove and Merlyn Grove, and two sisters; Bernice Graham and Doris Wagner. Also, two nephews preceded her in death. Sarah Mildred Grove was born icon September 25, 1905, to John L. and Bertha Wiggins Grove in rural North English. She graduated from North English High School and taught country school for a year before entering the Nursing program at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. After graduating as an RN, she worked in the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She and Newell A. Newhouse were married icon June 21, 1933, in the Methodist Church parsonage in Manchester, IA. Together they farmed in Keokuk County. Mrs. Newhouse was a private nurse and later was employed at the Keokuk County Hospital and also at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Mrs. Newhouse was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and held many offices within United Methodist Women as well as Superintendent and teacher in Sunday School in both the South English and Webster Methodist churches. She moved from Webster to Colonial Manor of Amana in 1994. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Colonial Manor of Amana whose staff provided a caring home for her in her last years.

Francis E. Dick, age 87, of Sigourney died following a long illness at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Reynolds - Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. The Rev. Frances Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Monday, from 3:00 until 8:00pm, with a Masonic Service being held at 8:00pm. A memorial fund has been established for Webb Lodge Masonic Scholarship Fund. Francis E. Dick was born icon on July 4, 1916 near Ollie, Iowa, a son of Lemuel I. and Clarissa Ruggles Dick. He grew up near Ollie and attended Walden Country School. On April 6, 1938, Francis was united in marriage to Henrietta Hauschild at the Methodist Parsonage in Sigourney. They lived and farmed near Ollie until 1973, when he retired from farming and moved into Sigourney. Francis also worked for Keokuk County and continued to work there until 1980. He was a member of the Webb Masonic Lodge, Davenport Consistory and the KAABA Shrine, and was a former Izaak Walton member. He loved being with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and gardening. He died following a long illness at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the age of 87 years. Francis is survived by his wife Henrietta of Sigourney; a daughter Charlotte Deitrich and her husband James of Sigourney; 2 grandchildren: Jane Bruns (Scott) of Washington, Iowa and Michael Deitrich of Olathe, Kansas; a great granddaughter, Morgan Bruns, 2 step great granddaughters, Lacey and Allie Bruns all of Washington, Iowa. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elsie Clingan and Bessie Pilkington.

John F. Kauffman was born icon Saturday, May 22, 1937 near Wellman, Iowa the son of Chester and Catherine (Clingdanel) Kauffman. He attended Iowa Mennonite School. On June 18, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Miller at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. They have lived in Iowa City, rural Riverside and Kalona. John worked as a mechanic and was shop foreman at Iowa City Coach Company. He was a member of the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church, and a former member of the Christian Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed studying Bible prophecy, camping, John Deere tractors and fixing things. John died on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City from cancer at the age of 67 years. John is survived by his wife Carolyn of Kalona; 3 children - Teresa Finch of Riverside; Amy Almeida and husband Greg of Tracy, California; Eric Kauffman and wife Heather of Austin, Texas; 7 grandchildren; his mother - Catherine Kauffman of Riverside; 4 sisters - Erma Ropp of Kalona; Marilyn Hunt of Riverside; Dawn Whitlock of Riverside; Gayle Barrett of Mount Vernon, Washington; and 2 brothers - Wayne Kauffman and Robert Kauffman of Chicago, Illinois. John was preceded in death by his father; and 2 brothers - infant Paul Richard Kauffman and Lowell Kauffman.
In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.

Douglas Alan Sieren was born icon June 4, 1970 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Francis and Sherry (Dumont) Sieren. He graduated from Mid - Prairie High School in 1989. Doug has lived in Wellman, Washington and Sigourney. Doug loved horses and being on the farm. He was an avid listener of country western music. Being a special needs individual, Doug was very proud of his high school diploma. Doug died on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a long illness at the age of 34 years. Doug is survived by his father - Francis and wife Janice of Dallas, Iowa; his mother - Sherry Sieren of Carlisle; a brother - Jeff of Wellman; 5 sisters - Kristine Sieren of Cedar Falls; Lori Silvestri of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Anne Chalupa and husband Nate of Keota; Carmen Allgood and husband Aaron of Des Moines; Amy Sieren of Phoenix, Arizona; paternal grandparents - Carl and Carmelita Sieren of Keota; maternal grandmother - Verna Adams of Sigourney; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather - Elmer Dumont. A private family funeral service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Rev. Marty Goetz will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Epilepsy Foundation.

Marion George Van Dee, age 72, died of cancer at his home in Deep River, on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North English with the Rev. David Hitch officiating. Burial will be in the Armah Cemetery near North English. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home in North English on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with a wake service held at 7:30 PM. Military rites will be held at the cemetery. Marion George Van Dee was born icon on December 13, 1931, in Deep River, IA, a son of Steven and Verla Schultz Van Dee. He grew up in Deep River and graduated from Deep River High School. On April 7, 1956, Marion married icon Betty Snook at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell. Marion owned and operated Van Dee Construction and Van Dee Reloading. Marion and Betty also ran the Chuckwagon Restaurant for many years. He enjoyed shooting and repairing guns, reloading, hunting, building model airplanes, working the daily crossword puzzle, and spoiling his dog, Rambo. Marion served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Morrison - Schrader American Legion Post 269. Marion is survived by his wife Betty of Deep River; 7 children: Regina Van Dee of Deep River; Elizabeth (Michael) Roberts of Deep River; John (Brenda) Van Dee of Deep River; Rosemary (Ray) Cooper of Capitol Heights, MD; J.D. (Gwen) Van Dee of Deep River; Angela (David) Armstrong of Deep River; Justin (Rebecca)Van Dee of Deep River; 14 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers: David Van Dee of Deep River, IA; Jerry Van Dee of Deep River; Jim Van Dee of Des Moines, IA and a sister, Iowa Ann Van Hamme of Murphy, NC. He is also survived by many family members and friends. Marion was preceded in death by his parents.

Walford - Melissa Marie Thompson Clark was born icon August 13, 1980 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Thompson and Donna Clark Thompson. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1998 and attended the University of Iowa and DMACC in Ankeny. Melissa has lived in a number of places, most recently in Williamsburg, Cedar Rapids and Walford. She was working for Kelly Temp. Services in Cedar Rapids. Melissa died Friday, June 4, 2004 in an auto accident in Walford at the age of 23 years. She is survived by her parents: Paul Thompson and Donna Thompson both of Marengo; two brothers: Mike Thompson of New Sharon and Scott Thompson of Ankeny; nieces and nephews: Manda, Alex, Anna, Aaron and Ella; and a special friend Dan Gebert of Walford. Melissa is preceded in death by her grandparents. Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Rev Edwin Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 PM at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home.

WELLMAN - Bertha Snodgrass was born icon January 13, 1908 near What Cheer, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Madge (Slaven) King. She attended What Cheer schools. On February 13, 1927 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Maxwell Snodgrass at his parents home in Keswick. She has lived in Iowa and California throughout her life and has lived in Wellman since 1981. She worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa Hospital for many years. She was a 75 year member of the Royal Neighbors. Bertha died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a sudden illness at the age of 96 years. Bertha is survived by a son - Lawrence 'Bob' Snodgrass of Iowa City; 2 daughters - Helen Snyder and husband Laverne of Red Oak; Carol Butterfield and husband Les of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 2 daughters - in - law Elizabeth Snodgrass of Mount Vernon, Missouri; Arlene Snodgrass of California; 21 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April of 1997; a daughter and son - in - law Norma and Clarence Ross; 2 sons - Richard Snodgrass and John Snodgrass; a daughter - in - law Billie Snodgrass; and 3 brothers. It was Bertha's request that her body be donated to the University of Iowa. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Bailey Cemetery in rural Keswick. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.

Webster - Marcella Delores Koehn was born icon August 12, 1926 at home in Conroy, Iowa, the daughter of William and Christine Trimpe Heitshusen. She graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy in 1945. Marcella married icon Virgil H. Koehn February 20, 1949 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. She has lived in the Dayton Township area most all of her adult life. She enjoyed gardening and helping out on the farm when needed. Marcella was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg, LWML, Ladies Aid and Millersburg Auxiliary. Marcella died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the English Valley Care Center in North English after a extended illness at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 18 days. She is survived by two sons: Randy (Kathy) Koehn and Kurt (Susan) Koehn all of Webster; eight grandchildren: Ryan Koehn, Robyn (Scott) Leer, Roger (Lena) Koehn, Rebecca Koehn, Joseph Koehn, John Koehn, Andrew Koehn and Amanda Bothe; three great granddaughters: Caitlin, Jennifer and Devan Leer; two sisters: Florence Gardner of Williamsburg and Madora Jensen of Cedar Rapids. Marcella was preceded in death by parents, husband in 1986 and a sister Alice Heitshusen. A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg. Rev. Cory Rajek will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Memorials are for the Trinity Lutheran Church or English Valley Care Center.

KEOTA - Ned Gingerich, age 82, of Keota, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Ned was born icon May 26, 1922, near Kalona, Iowa, to Samuel 'Jesse' and Lydia (Plank) Gingerich. He attended rural Pleasant Hill school near Kalona and graduated from Kalona High School in 1939. In September of 1942, Ned enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the Air Cadet program until the end of WWII. Following his discharge, Ned worked at a cabinetry company. On May 22, 1951, he married icon Rose Reiland Dawson in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple farmed in the Keota area for many years and Ned also worked at the SEMCO Landfill as a scale man for several years. Ned was a member of the Am - Vets Post #107 in Richmond, was very active with the Boy Scouts for several years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping, training hunting dogs and following Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball. Survivors include one son: James and wife Peggy of Keota; granddaughters: Jennifer and Jamie; two step - sons: Tom Dawson and wife Carol of Newburg, Indiana and Steve Dawson and wife Karen of Iowa City; one step - daughter: Barbara Riggan and husband Bill of Kalona; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Rose in 1997; two brothers: Vernon and Harlen; two sisters: Edith Brenneman and Irma Briskey and one step - son: Bill Dawson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery, with military rites by the Richmond Am - Vets Post # 107. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
