Robert L. Slaubaugh was born icon October 25, 1935 in Wellman, Iowa the son of Eurie and Elsie (Yoder) Slaubaugh. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1953. He has lived in the Wellman community all of his life. He worked at Yoder Feeds in Frytown for 43 years. Robert died suddenly on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at his home in Wellman at the age of 70 years. Robert is survived by a daughter Becky Allen and husband Mike of Wellman; a son Robert Slaubaugh Jr. and wife Patti of Kalona; 3 grandsons Danny Slaubaugh, Dwight Slaubaugh, Tanner Allen; a granddaughter Tara Fleming; a brother Doug Slaubaugh and wife Leslie of Wellman; 4 sisters Shirley Kuhns and husband Bob of Wellman; Patti Vincent and husband Charles of Wellman; Glennis Speas and husband Don of Kalona; Fraynia Snyder and husband Ward of Tuscon, Arizona; and a special friend Alberta Walker of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers - Melvin and Wayne.

A Memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Golf Club.

Jon Robert Waterhouse, age 27 of Iowa City, and formerly of Keota, died suddenly on Friday, March 17, 2005 at his home in Iowa City. Jon was born icon on July 16, 1978 in Washington, Iowa, the son of James L. and Berna A. Hahn Waterhouse. He attended Keota High School for three years and graduated from City High School in Iowa City. Jon attended college at the University of Iowa and also in Minneapolis where he worked for Investment Companies. He was currently studying at the University of Iowa. Jon loved poetry and music and was an excellent pianist. He enjoyed cooking and preparing food. He loved his nieces and nephews. Jon is survived by his parents, Jim & Berna Waterhouse of Keota; two sisters: Lynnette Hultman and husband Larry of Keota - Jan Waterhouse and husband David Burbidge of Iowa City; a brother, Jamey Waterhouse and wife Traci of Keota; 9 nieces and nephews; and two grandmothers: Opal Hahn of Keota and Olletha Waterhouse of Washington. Memorial services are set for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22nd at the United Church of Faith in Keota with Pastor Sally Graves officiating. Burial is in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. A General Memorial Fund has been established.

Donald "Red" Olson

Marengo–Donald “Red” Olson was born icon January 11,1934 IN Cedar Rapids, the son of Lewis and Emma Kuhnle Olson. He graduated from Conroy High School. Red served in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Cathryn Crowe in the fall of 1965, they later divorced. He was a life long resident of Iowa County where he enjoyed farming and was a avid Hawkeye Fan. Red died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo after a brief illness at the age of 72 years. He is survived by a son: Matt Olson of Marengo and many cousins. Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Burial will be at a later date.

SIGOURNEY - Kenneth Lyle Husband, age 70, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, following a lengthy illness. Kenny was born icon July 11, 1935, in Keokuk County, Iowa, east of What Cheer, to John and Veva (Griggs) Husband. He attended country school and Keswick High School. On January 10, 1959, he married icon Donna Jean Mason at the Delta United Methodist Church. The couple lived and farmed in the What Cheer, Delta and Sigourney communities until retiring in 1999. Kenny also showed Hackney ponies in his younger years. Kenny was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church and enjoyed collecting model draft horse teams and wagons, his pride and joy, fishing and dancing. Survivors include his wife: Donna Jean Husband of Sigourney; three sisters: Veva Hermanstorfer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dorothy Gibson of Burlington and Margaret Herr of Oskaloosa; one brother: Mervin Husband and wife Alice of Bedford; two sisters-in-law: Betty Husband of Millersburg and Peggy Husband of Oskaloosa; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law: Nadine Mason of Sigourney and special friend: Ben Herman of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother: Marie Dawson Husband; two brothers: Dale Husband and Clarence Husband; three brothers-in-law: Arlo Gibson, Bob Herr and Vernon Hermanstorfer and two nephews: Melvin Hermanstorfer and Ronnie Hermanstorfer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Revs. Don Ridenour and Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Keokuk County, the American Diabetes Association or Delta United Methodist Church. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

SIGOURNEY - Dean Icenbice, age 83, of Sigourney, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness. Dean was born icon March 8, 1923, near Sigourney, to Russell and Eva (Baker) Icenbice and graduated from Sigourney High School. On December 31, 1949, he married icon Norma Eyestone at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Following marriage, the couple lived and farmed east of Sigourney until 1951 when they moved to a farm south of Sigourney. In 1960 they moved to Sigourney where Dean worked in the Keokuk County Auditor’s office. The couple then owned and operated Icenbice Insurance. Dean was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and an active member of the Sigourney Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida, where the couple spent many happy winters and collecting stamps and antique typewriters. Survivors include a brother-in-law: Don Cooper of Houston, Texas; two nephews: David Rugg of Sigourney and Kim Cooper of Plano, Texas and two nieces: Kyla Sherrard of Tyler, Texas and Jana Huertas of Bourg, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Norma in 2005 and two sisters: Norma Rugg and Doris Cooper. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

Peiffer was born icon December 13, 1930, in South English, Iowa and died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at the McCreedy Home in Washington, following a brief illness, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 10 days. Private graveside services will be held at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney with Rev. Jim Stout officiating. There will be no visitation. A general memorial fund has been established. Norman Albert Wilhite, who owned and ran the successful Wilhite International & Pontiac dealership in Keswick, Iowa, until he retired in 1988, died March 24 at Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital in Sun City West, Arizona. He was 78 and had lived in Arizona for most of the past 17 years. The cause of death was complications of a major heart attack suffered at his home two days earlier and from which he never regained consciousness. Burial services with military rites will be held near Keswick, IA on Monday, April 3, 11:00 a.m., at Sorden Cemetery. His funeral Mass was March 30 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West. Known for his engaging sense of humor, Norman was born icon September 26, 1927, the second son of Clarence and Marguerite (Naylor) Wilhite. His mother died in 1931 when Norman was just four. He was raised by his stepmother Mildred (Gribbin), whom his father married icon in 1935. Following graduation from Keswick High School in 1946, Norman enlisted in the military and served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Japan until his honorable discharge in 1948. After the service he returned to Keswick and went to work in his father’s business, C. L. Wilhite Implement, a farm equipment, car and truck, and appliances dealership established in 1920. He adapted quickly to selling and liked it, and over the years he significantly expanded the business and increasingly took charge of running it. When his father died in 1977 he bought the company from his stepmother Mildred, who died in 1988, and his only brother Eugene, who died in 2003. Norman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice (Flynn) of Sun City West, and his son Tom of Los Angeles, California. When he married icon Alice he became a Catholic and his faith was always important to him. In both Iowa and Arizona he regularly participated in his parishes’ charitable and community activities. Norman was an avid golfer, and in retirement he maintained a busy schedule of cards, Bocce, walking, and square-dancing. In recent years, Norman and his wife enjoyed playing “extras” in films produced by their son; in February, they went to L.A. for the first screening of “Marigold,” a just-completed movie in which they “played” airplane passengers on a flight to India. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Vincent de Paul, Phoenix, Az 85002, or Keswick First Responders, Keswick, IA 50136..

Shelby Maxine Young was born icon October 22, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Leonard and Marilyn (Butterbaugh) Wasson. She graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1967. On July 2, 1967 she was united in marriage to Larry Young in Iowa City. They lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and various cities in Iowa and most recently made their home in Keota. She worked at various jobs including a cashier at the Casey’s General Store in Washington. Shelby died on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at her sister’s home in Washington following a lengthy illness at the age of 58 years. Shelby is survived by 5 children - John Young and wife Michelle of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.; Jennifer Young of Washington; Jerry Young of Keota; Juna Gingerich and husband Stacy of Kalona; Jamie Young and fiancé Carol Edwards of Des Moines; 6 grandchildren; her mother Marilyn Wasson of West Chester; 2 sisters Gina Rotenburger and husband Gerald of West Chester; Vanessa Eastwood and husband Lawrence of Washington; a brother-in-law Gary Young and wife Delores of McLean, NE.; a sister-in-law Viola Kruger of Norfolk, NE.; 14 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Shelby was preceded in death by her father, her husband; an infant son Christopher; father and mother-in-law Christopher and Mary (Malkin) Young and 3 brothers-in-law Scott Hotle, Daryl Utzinger, and John Leaply.

A General Memorial fund has been established.
