Ulah L. Ebert

Ulah L. Ebert, age 82, of Stronghurst, Illinois, died at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Strong–hurst. She was born April 16, 1922, in Nauvoo, Illinois, the daughter of William and Neva Brown Metternich. On January 11, 1949, she married Max E. Ebert in Nauvoo. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1983.

Mrs. Ebert was raised on a grape farm near Nauvoo. He mother died in 1940, leaving Ulah, at the age of 18, to raise 3 younger sisters. She moved to Media, Illinois, in 1950, where she lived until moving to Strong–hurst in 1983. She had a great love for children; raising six daughters and helping with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a former Henderson County 4–H leader and a member of the Stronghurst Community Senior Citizens. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Raritan and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include six daughters — Joyce (and Robert) Heikes of Smith–shire, IL., Jacqueline (and Steven) Woodward of Decatur, IL., Jeanne (and Bill) Taylor of Phoenix, AZ., Judy (and Martin) LaLonde of Little York, IL., Janice (and Craig) Smith of Springfield, TN., Joni (and Scott) Dillard of Stronghurst, 14 grandchildren — Dawn (and Doug) Mitchell, Shane (and Nikki) Heikes, Jacob (and fiancé Shanna Allen) Woodward, Corey, Ashley, Nicole, and Brittany Taylor, Matthew and Megan LaLonde, Jana (and Brett) Cole, Jessica (and Chris) Winters, Dustin Smith, and Jordan and Justine Dillard, 3 great grandchildren — Kendra Cole, and Chloe and Emma Heikes, 3 sisters — June Geissler of Carthage, IL., Kathy (and Carl) Rose of Nauvoo, IL., Jane Kelley of Nauvoo, IL., 2 brothers — Jack (and Donna) Metternich, and Dale (and Vivian) Metternich, all of Nauvoo. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 grandchildren — Wade Taylor and Jared Woodward and 2 brothers — Joe and Luther Metternich.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday June 21, 2004, in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Raritan, with Rev. Michael Monclova. Burial will be in the Nauvoo City Cemetery , Nauvoo, IL.

Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, followed by visitation with the family from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established for the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst.

Donna R. Peebler

The funeral service for Mrs. Donna Rose Peebler, 74, who died Friday, December 3, 2004, will be Wed–nesday, December 8, at 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Moberg will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8 AM on Tuesday, December 7th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:00 PM. A memorial has been established.

Robert Collins

Robert Earl Collins, 58, of Alpha, Ill., formerly of Lomax and Dallas City, Ill., died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

Born Sept. 19, 1946, in LaHarpe, Ill., he was the son of Earl and Virginia Dodd Collins.

Mr. Collins was an antique dealer.

He was a graduate of Dallas City High School and a Vietnam War Army veteran. He enjoyed going to antique shows and flea markets. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and liked to hunt.

Survivors include his companion, Kathy Peterson of Alpha; three daughters, Monica Koechle of Fort Madison, Tammy Collins of Montrose and Melinda Collins of Bushnell, Ill.; one son, Jason Collins of La Quinta, Calif.; one brother, Gary Collins of Monmouth, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Collins will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Earl Beal officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.

A memorial has been established for his grandchildren's education.

Carl Bennett

Carl L. Bennett, 83, of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his home.

Born Jan. 7, 1918, near LaHarpe, he was the son of William and Ruth Hushaw Bennett. He married Lelia Fuller Oct. 13, 1940, in Carthage, Ill.
Mr. Bennett farmed early in his life near LaHarpe and then worked as a self-employed carpenter until retiring. He lived near LaCrosse, Ill., until moving to LaHarpe in 1996. He loved the outdoors and was especially proud of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Barbara Balbinot-Reitz of Fort Madison; two sons, William "Bill" Bennett of LaHarpe and Neil Bennett of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Clair "Cappie" Bennett of rural LaHarpe; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, two in infancy, and three sisters.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Bennett will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Webster, Ill., Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the LaHarpe Ambulance Service.

Helen Cannon

Helen Cannon, 74, of West Burlington, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Nelson, Mo., she was the daughter of Newt and Frances Rough. She married Elbert A. Cannon on Oct. 13, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas.
Mrs. Cannon was raised in Canyon, Texas, and was a graduate of Canyon High School. She worked at IRC and Sheaffer Pen Co. and later worked for Good-year Tire and Rubber Co. in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of Sts. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church and St. Francis Auxiliary. She loved making ceramics, spending time with her family and friends and doing things with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lisa Fainter of Burlington and Ann Bench of Amarillo, Texas; one son, Charles Cannon of Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and one sister, Connie Sage of Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her body has been cremated.

The graveside memorial service for Mrs. Cannon will be at a later date in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas.

Lunning Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Janet Rini

Janet I. Rini, 74, of Sun City, Ariz., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Sun Health Boswell Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Rini was born in Burlington and formerly was married to Daniel Parry.
She was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended Iowa State University. She was a florist.

She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church. In 1985, she moved to Arizona, where she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Michael; one son, Daniel Parry of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; one daughter, Christena Parry-Landman of South Bend, Ind.; one stepson, Robert of Mentor, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Judith Ohm of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Howard and Warren Tiedeman, both of Sun City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established for Peace Lutheran Church, 18625 N. 89th Ave., Peoria, Ariz. 85381 and Sun City Library, Bell Recreation Center, 10620 W. Peoria Ave., Sun City, Ariz. 85351.

Menke Funeral Home in Sun City was in charge of arrangements.

Joanne Martin

Joanne Marilyn Martin, 63, of Keosauqua, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Aug. 25, 1937, in Willmar, Minn., she was the daughter of Emory and Marion Greenfield Rannestad. She married Robert S. Martin on Aug. 22, 1964, in Whiting.
Mrs. Martin was a 1955 graduate of Willmar High School and attended business college in Minneapolis, Minn. She assisted her husband in his work as a Christian minister, most recently in Milton, until retiring to Keosauqua in 1999. She and her husband operated Martin House Christian Bookstore in Clinton for several years in the 1980s.

She attended Keosauqua Christian Church and was a trustee of Way Of The Cross Foundation in Keosauqua.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael of Keo-sauqua, Timothy of Ottumwa and Christian of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Richard Rannestad of Spicer, Minn.; one sister, Delores Saxton of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one foster sister, Joan Evans, also of Minneapolis.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Martin will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Keosauqua Christian Church, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Way Of The Cross Memorial Cemetery , south of Keosauqua.

A memorial has been established for the Way Of The Cross Foundation. Contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at Route 1, Box 47A, Apt. 38, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.

John Smith

John A. Smith, 81, of Wapello, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Wapello Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Davenport, he was the son of Adrian and May Boltz Smith.
Mr. Smith was a resident of Odessa Residential Care Facility in Wapello for many years. He worked at the Muscatine Sheltered Work Shop in Muscatine.

He is survived by several cousins in Wapello.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

There will be no visitation. The private graveside funeral service for Mr. Smith will be at a later date in Wapello Cemetery.

Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence McKenzie

Clarence E. "Chick" McKenzie, 77, No. 1 Pioneer Lane, Keokuk, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, at University Place Care Center in University Place, Wash.

Born May 23, 1924, in Keokuk, he was the son of Louis and Laura Riter McKenzie. He married Aletha Jean Ensminger. On May 1, 1997, he married Esther Leftwich in Keokuk.
Mr. McKenzie was a postal worker. He retired in 1977.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, American Legion Post 41, De La Salle Council 619 Knights of Columbus and the Eagles. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He was a World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European/African/Middle Eastern Medal, Bronze Battle Star and Victory Medal.

Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Jane Dodge and Judy Taylor, both of Keokuk; one stepson, Kyle Leftwich of University Place; and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk, with a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. McKenzie will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with the Rev. Christopher David officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the National Kidney Foundation.

Dennis Anderson

Dennis L. Anderson, 49, of Davenport, died at 7:28 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Aug. 21, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Wilbert Oscar and Jennie Opal Odell Anderson.
Mr. Anderson worked as an employment supervisor, industrial relations representative and labor relations manager for J.I. Case Co. in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin from 1973 until 1989. From 1989 until 1998, he was director and vice president of human resources for Sears Manufacturing in Davenport.

He was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in business administration, where he was on the dean's list and graduated magna cum laude. He received his masters in business administration from Western Illinois University in 1981.

He was of the Christian faith. He was past president of Quad Cities Industrial Relations Society, past chair of Job Service Employer's Council, past member of the board of directors for Ultimed Health Care Network, board member of Private Industry Council and board member of JTPA. He enjoyed running, woodworking, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his fiance, Janet Rodecker of Davenport; one son, Eric Anderson of Eagen, Minn.; one daughter, Erin Watson of Tucson, Ariz.; his fiance's daughter, Kerry Rodecker of Davenport; his mother of Burlington; and three brothers, Garry Anderson of East Peoria, Ill., Larry Anderson of Montrose and John Anderson of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Visitation will begin after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Anderson will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Dora Walsh

Dora Ann Walsh, 84, of Burlington, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 30, 1917, in Carterville, Mont., she was the daughter of Oscar and Pearl Smith Tubbs. On April 6, 1942, she married John Forest Walsh in Burlington. He died Jan. 21, 2001.
Mrs. Walsh was a machine operator for Midwest Biscuit for 25 years. She retired around 1983.

She was a graduate of Wapello High School. She was a member of Sts. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, her flowers, being in the country with the animals and her family.

Survivors include four sons, David Walsh of Blue Grass, Edward Walsh of Prattville, Ala., Richard Walsh and Thomas Walsh, both of Burlington; two daughters, Nancy Henry of Burlington and Kathy Beckman of Hutchinson, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Schmitt of Battle Creek, Mich., and Joann Tubbs of Burlington; and two brothers, Stanley Tubbs of Tribune, Kan., and Ronald Tubbs of Chicago.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister in infancy.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Walsh will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Kidney Foundation.
