Elwin P. Wade was born icon April 8, 1919 near Wellman, Iowa the son of William and Bertha (Tracey) Wade. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion and the VFW. He was a past Assistant Fire Chief in Wellman. He owned and operated a Ford Dealership in Wellman for a number of years. Elwin died on Monday, March 27, 2006 at his home in Mesa, Arizona following a lengthy illness at the age of 86 years. Elwin is survived by his wife Irene of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter - B. J. Beck of Phoenix, Arizona; 3 sons - William Wade of Davenport; Jeff Wade of Eldon, Missouri; Wesley Wade of Glendora, California; and a brother Lyle Wade of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his his first wife Loise; a sister - Wilna; and 3 brothers - Lynn, Olin and Duane.

Glen Robert Heitshusen

Williamsburg - Glen Robert Heitshusen was born icon March 29, 1980 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas K. and Jacqueline J. Miller Heitshusen. He received his High School Diploma. Glen worked for Arby’s in Williamsburg and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Glen died Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo after a sudden illness at the age of 26 years and 5 days. He is survived by his parents: Thomas and Jacqueline of Williamsburg; a sister: Marie Heitshusen of Grinnell; grandparents: Helen Heitshusen of South Amana and Glen B. Miller of Kalona and three nieces. Glen is preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert Heitshusen and Nancy Miller. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.

Darrell Schwarting

Williamsburg – Darrell Lynn Schwarting was born icon October 4, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Duane and Darlene (Brown) Schwarting. He was baptized on October 30, 1960 and confirmed on February 23, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. He graduated from Williamsburg High School and Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo. Darrell was united in marriage to Cindy Grolmus on September 10, 1988 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Together the couple owned and operated Williamsburg Foods. Darrell also enjoyed farming and raising cattle with his father and brother. He was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Darrell was a avid bowler and Hawkeye fan and enjoyed doing artwork. Darrell died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his brothers farm near Homestead at the age of 45 years. He is survived by his wife Cindy of Williamsburg; his parents: Duane and Darlene Schwarting of Homestead; a brother: Kevin (JoAnn) Schwarting of Homestead and a niece and nephew: Natalie and Jess. Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents: Art and Wanda Schwarting, Henry and Rosa Brown and an uncle Gene Brown. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy on Friday, April 7, 2006. Pastor Gary Sears will officiate. Burial will be at the Trinity Cemetery in Conroy. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. A general memorial has been established.

Michael Ray Moyer

Michael Ray Moyer was born icon on September 10, 1962 in Marengo, IA, the son of Dean M. And Velma K. Bauer Moyer. He grew up in Millersburg and graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1980. Michael had worked at Shellar-Globe and Waste Management in Iowa City and currently worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and drag racing, where he sometimes helped in the pit areas. Michael died suddenly on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at his home in Iowa City. He lived 43 years, 6 months and 26 days. Surviving are six brothers: William Moyer and Ron Moyer both of Millersburg, IA; Kevin Moyer and Paul Moyer both of Iowa City, IA; Larry Moyer of Sioux City, IA; and Jacob Moyer of South English, IA. Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

Wylda Axmear

SIGOURNEY - Wylda Floy Jackson Axmear, age 96, of Sigourney, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the Sigourney Care Center, following a brief illness. Wylda was born icon July 10, 1909, near Peoria, Iowa, to Rodney and Blanche (Engle) Jackson. She graduated from Lacey High School and attended Grinnell College for two years, then taught in a rural school for one year. She married icon Richard Axmear in February of 1940. The couple lived and farmed south of What Cheer. They later moved to Sigourney and then settled in Delta. Wylda was homemaker and consultant for Luzier Cosmetics for 40 years. She was an active member of the Delta United Methodist Church as well as other community and county organizations. Wylda also belonged to the D.U.V., where she served as past state president. She enjoyed playing the piano and writing poetry, many of which was published. Survivors include two daughters: Raychel Watkins of Waianae, Hawaii and Linda Rees and husband Bill of Sigourney; one son: Richard Axmear and wife Thaydean of Carson City, Nevada; one daughter-in-law: Marietta Axmear of Beloit, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Richard; son: Steven Axmear; granddaughter: Cheryl Axmear Bomkamp; and three brothers: Ray and Floyd Jackson and one in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006, at the Delta United Methodist Church with Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney and from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006, at the Delta United Methodist Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Delta United Methodist Church. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

KEOTA - Dolores Mary Bombei, age 82, of Keota, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Maplewood Manor in Keota, following a brief illness. Dolores was born icon July 25, 1923, in Keokuk County, near Richland, to Nicholas and Josephine (Bohrofen) Heisdorffer. She attended country school and received her G.E.D. in 1988. On June 15, 1948 she married icon Alvin E. Bombei at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. A homemaker and farm wife, Dolores was a resident of the Keota community all her life. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards. Survivors include one daughter: Marilyn Waechter and husband Ron of Sigourney; three sons: Ronald Bombei and wife Melody of Keota, Randall Bombei and wife Barbara of Richland and Russell Bombei and wife Andrea of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren and one sister: Loretta Bombei of Keota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Alvin in 1985; two brothers: Everett and Leonard Heisdorffer and three sisters: Viola Weber, LaVera Weber and Lucille Sieren. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at the Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.

Ellavene Longwell

Ellavene Longwell was born icon November 23, 1913 in Keswick, Iowa the daughter of John and Susie (Healey) O’Brien. She graduated from Keswick High School in 1932. On November 10, 1936 she was united in marriage to A.G. “Ham” Longwell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Ellavene has lived on the same farm since 1936 where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and “Grandview Get Together”. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. Ellavene died on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness at the age of 92 years. Ellavene is survived by two daughters - Patricia Longwell-Wera and husband John of Mankato, MN., Lorraine Longwell of Marion; a son - Dale Longwell and wife Nancy of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren - Martin Wera, Katherine Wera, Jim Longwell, Mike Longwell; four great grandchildren - Ashley Longwell, Brandon Yale, Aaron Longwell, Adam Longwell; two brothers - Bill O’Brien of Tacoma, WA.; Larry O’Brien of Cambridge, WI.; and two sisters - Anna White of Iowa City; and Ellen Gerard of North English. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in October of 1995; four brothers - Hugh, John, Ed, Joe; and two sisters - Frances Baker and Mary VanDee.

A Memorial Fund has been established for St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Elma Berger Erb

Elma Berger Erb was born icon February 26, 1907 in Iowa County near Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Lovina (Groff) Ruegsegger. She attended Franklin rural school and graduated from Wellman High School in 1924. After graduating from High School she attended college at Cedar Falls, where she received her First Grade Uniform County teachers certificate which entitled her to teach rural school, which she did for 9 years. On May 30, 1934 she was united in marriage to Henry Berger at the Franklin Methodist Church, Henry died on May 12, 1971. They farmed until 1963 when they moved to Wellman where she continued to live. 2 sons were born icon to this union, Harlan and Dennis. Elma worked as a telephone operator in Wellman for 5 years, a nursing home, and a custodial home for several years. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, a member of the United Methodist Women, and Order of Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron. On November 26, 1977 she was united in marriage to Rev. Earl Erb at the Asbury United Methodist Church. She continued to live in Wellman, spending the winters in Florida. Elma died on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Parkview Manor in Wellman from complications of age of 99 years. Elma is survived by 2 sons - Harlan Berger and wife Diane of Coralville; Dennis Berger and wife Janice of Wellman; a stepson - Darrell Gripenberg and wife Charlotte of Des Moines; 6 grandchildren - Bonnie Hogan, David Broadie (Cindy), Debra Negley (John), Rick Berger (Judy), Steve Berger (Julie), Terry Berger (Pati); 2 step grandsons - David Gripenberg, Dennis Gripenberg; 8 great grandchildren - Peter and Abby Hogan; Christopher, Ashley and Collin Broadie, Max Berger, Madeline Negley, Shea Berger; 6 step great grandchildren - Garth and Derek Gripenberg, Brian, Jeremy, Melissa and Emily Ferry; a brother - Delmar Ruegsegger of Wellman; and a sister - Marilyn Kirkpatrick of North English. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s, a sister - Iona Swartzendruber; and 3 brothers - Gerald, Leo and Orville Ruegsegger.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the Asbury United Methodist Church and the Wellman Senior Center.
