WEST CHESTER- Marvin C. Yoder, was born icon on September 15, 1924, near Wellman, Iowa, a son of Cornelius and Eugena (Testruit) Yoder. He served in the US Army from September 3, 1943 until March 4, 1946. On July 17, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Miller, in Bettendorf, Iowa. He owned Marv’s DX Gas Station, in West Chester, Iowa. He has lived in the Wellman and West Chester communities throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the American Legion. Marvin died on Friday, October 31, 2008, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa following a lengthy illness, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his 2 sons- Richard (Lorna) Yoder of Boulder, CO and Ronald (Debbie) Yoder of Casper, WY; 2 daughters- Carla Brunk of West Chester, IA and Carmen (Chris) Woods of Washington, IA; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 4 sisters- Bernice Darnald of Malvern, IA, Leila Stroeh of LaCrosse, WI, Margaret Brogla and Janice Wenman both of Coralville, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; 4 sisters- Dessel, Glennis, Wilma and Doris; a brother Don; and a son-in-law Phil Brunk. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Marlene Jansen will officiate. Burial will be in the West Chester Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-8 PM with the family present from 5-8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington County Hospice.

Harold T. Miller

Harold T. Miller was born icon April 26, 1908 near Joetown, Iowa, the son of David D. and Naomi (Miller) Miller. He attended Brush #8 rural school and the Lincoln Flying School in Lincoln, Nebraska. On November 16, 1930 he was united in marriage to Rosetta Brenneman at her parents home near Frytown. They made their home in the Wellman community until moving to Iowa county in 1948, they moved to Washington in 1959. Harold was a farmer and a mechanic. Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. He enjoyed building model airplanes and woodworking. Harold died on Friday, October 24, 2008 at the McCreedy Home in Washington following a short illness at the age of 100 years. Harold is survived by 7 children - Robert E. Miller and wife Mickey of Roy, Utah; Marlin W. Miller of Washington; Carl K. Miller and wife Phillith of Highlands Ridge, Colorado; Charlene McLain and husband Leo of San Antonio, Texas; Frank D. Miller and wife Sherry of Port Ludlow, Oregon; Marcia Rozinek and husband Dave of West Branch; Dallas G. Miller and wife Debbie of Westminster, Colorado; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandchild, 6 sisters and 2 brothers.

A memorial fund has been established for the McCreedy Home.

Millersburg dateline Johanna G. Montross, was born icon on July 19, 1914, in Eufort, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Clara Heynert. She attended a finishing school in Paris. She was a RN in Germany.After WWII she came to the United States, where she was a LPN. Johanna met Lloyd Leslie Montross in Cedar Rapids, and they were united in marriage on February 18, 1960, in Maryville, Missouri. After they were married icon they lived on the farm near Millersburg. Johanna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Millersburg. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Johanna died on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a short illness. Johanna lived 94 years, 2 months and 18 days. She is survived by her husband Lloyd Montross of Millersburg; a daughter Susanna Stouder of Ft. Madison, IA; 3 grandchildren: Sabrina Straka, Heidi Liegal and Adam Jensen. 2 great grandchildren: Jacob Staka and Aimee Liegal. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Chester Hampton; 4 sisters; and a brother. A Celebration of Life Service will held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Millersburg with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg, IA.

Keith Wells

Keith Wells was born icon December 13, 1912 in rural Washington County, Iowa to Roy Wells and Jessie Clara Johnston Wells. He attended school in West Chester, Iowa and graduated with the Class of 1931. He married icon Margaret Alice Crayne on June 24, 1936. Keith attended business school for two years at the Ottumwa School of Business and learned the grocery trade at Glen Barclay and Big Giant in Washington, IA, then continuing in Macon and Kirksville, Missouri. Keith served his country by enlisting in the Navy at Fort Des Moines in March 1943 and was honorably discharged as Seaman First Class in March 1945. His young family settled in Keota, Iowa in 1947 where Keith was the much loved grocer at the Keota Food Center from 1947 - 1965. After losing Alice to cancer in 1961, he married icon Mary Verlee Smith Pierce on August 24, 1962. As an active 4-H'er he raised a Grand Champion steers and fostered a fondness for the Iowa State Fair which became an annual tradition. Keith was an active member of the Lions Club, American Legion, VFW and a past member of the K. P. Lodge and the Odd Fellows Lodge. As a member of the United Church of Faith, he served on the church Session and he served his community as a member of the Town Council. His favorite past times were reading, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chicago Cubs. Keith passed on Dec 5, 2008 just 8 days shy of his 96th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gail Bosworth, & son-in-law Lyle McKenzie. He is survived by his wife Verlee, and his sister Mary Parker of Burlington, IA. Keith loved his constantly expanding family of 4 children, Nancy McKenzie, Spring Grove, MN, Sue (Don) Jorg, Waterbury, CT, Bill Wells, Albuquerque, NM, Robyn (Patrick) Wells-Vogel, Keota, IA; 2 step children, Rick Pierce, Washington, IA, and Rita (Robert) Schmidt, Iowa City, IA, 5 grandchildren Roger and Connie McKenzie, Chad, Christopher, Charlie Halverson, 5 step-grandchildren, Jessica & Mathew Schmidt, Richard Jr., Robert, & Roy Pierce, & 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. Keith’s amiable nature, smothering bear hugs, hardy handshakes and his friendly ear pulls will be missed and fondly remembered by friends and family alike. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the United Church of Faith or the Wilson Memorial Library. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.

North English Dateline Louise Emma Hahn, age 100, died following a short illness on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, Iowa. Rev. James Stout will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 pm until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the North English Library. Louise E. Hahn was born icon on October 3, 1908 in Brooklyn, IA a daughter of Benjamin F. and Ion Shannon Torrance. She grew up in the Brooklyn community and graduated from Brooklyn High School in1927. She married icon Lloyd E. Davidson on June 22, 1936. Louise lived in Marengo, Aurora, IL, in California, Kellogg and later in North English. She taught school and worked in retail sales. She was later united in marriage to Leland Claude Hahn on August 21, 1958 in Greeley, Co. They owned and operated a locker in Kellogg for 13 years retiring in 1970. Leland preceded her in death in January 1998. Louise enjoyed reading. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in June 2000. Louise died following a short illness on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the English Valley Care Center. She shared the excitement of her 100th birthday with all of her closest relatives on October 3, 2008, at the English Valley Care Center. She is survived by a daughter Judy (Dave) Hergesheimer of Thousand Oaks, CA; step-daughters Johnette (Gary) Timm of Guernsey, IA and Linda (Lester) York of Iowa Falls, IA; a step-son Winston (LaVonne) Hahn of Atoka, TN; 2 grand daughters: Anne Judge and Leslie Martinez; 6 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son Terry Davidson, sisters Esther Averill and Phyllis Hall.

Linda S. Weber was born icon on September 6, 1946 in Ottumwa, IA, a daughter of Joseph and Lee Randall Teno. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1964 and became a LPN at Ottumwa Heights. Linda married icon Raymond H. Weber in Ottumwa on August 27, 1966. They made their home on the farm in Clear Creek Township, south of Keota. Linda worked many years as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Sigourney Care Center and at Maplewood Manor. She loved nature, fishing, camping and vacationing, especially with her grandchildren. She was a collector of Santas. Linda was very active at. Holy Trinity Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church She died following a long illness on Friday, November 28, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Linda lived 62 years, 2 months and 22 days. She is survived by husband Raymond of Keota; sons Bryan (Stacie) Weber of Oskaloosa and Brent (Betty) Weber of Sigourney; daughters Becky Weber of Sigourney and Brenda (Tim) Sieren of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren: Megen, Brandt, Benjamin, Jeremiah, Nicholas, Katerina, Brittney & Brianna; father: Joseph Teno of Ottumwa; brother Joe J. Teno of Sibley, IL; sisters Cathy Martz and Cindy Smith both of Ottumwa. Linda was preceded in death by her mother. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Visitation will be at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 10 AM until 7 PM with a vigil prayer service at 7 PM. The Family will be present from 4 PM to 7 PM. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Parish Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, rural Harper, IA. A memorial fund has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

Mary Lois Widmer was born icon July 9, 1927 in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Katie (Yoder) Swartzendruber. Mary Lois grew up in the Joetown community and graduated from Wellman High School, Cornell College and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Mary Lois was united in marriage to Clayton John Widmer on May 29, 1949 at the Lower Deer Creek Church near Kalona. The couple lived and farmed in Crawfordsville community for 30 years, Mary Lois then moved to Olds, Iowa from 1983-2004. In 2004 Mary Lois moved to Williamsburg. Mary Lois taught at the Pacific School in rural Johnson County before their marriage, while the children were growing up she was a homemaker and worked at school. She later went to work for Area Education Agency for 20 years retiring in 1998. Mary Lois was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, were she was the Sunday School superintendent, also taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and she was active in WMSC were she was a conference delegate for 15 years. Mary Lois died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 20 days due to complications of Alzheimer. She is survived by four sons: Lamarr (Margaret) Widmer of Dillsburg, PA, Kent (Pam) Widmer of Williamsburg, Dan (Sue) Widmer of Washington and Dave (Roni) Widmer of Williamsburg; six grandchildren: Joel, Josh, Blaine, Mallory, Mitchell and Jackie Widmer. Mary Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1970, seven brothers: Mel, William, Hank, John K. George, Urie and Swartzendruber and a sister: Ursula Miller in 2008. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Wayland. Pastor Phil Slabaugh will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 5, 2008 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with the family present from 3:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Kalona and Saturday from9:30 am until service time at the church. Memorials are for the Crooked Creek Christian Camp, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Williamsburg Library.

On September 12, 1968, she was united in marriage to Alvin Miller in Kalona, Iowa. They lived in Kalona, Iowa until 1977, when they moved to Wisconsin. In 1994 they moved to New York. She was a faithful member of the Madison Mennonite Church in Madison, NY. Ella died on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, after a sudden illness at the age of 62 years. She is survived by her husband Alvin of Munnsville, NY; 9 children- Marlin Dale (Miriam) Miller of Clarkston, KY, Richard (Mary) Miller of Madison, NY, Duane Lee (Laura) Miller of Munnsville, NY, Ruth Ann (Luke) Coblentz of Flemingsburg, KY, Nelson Ray (Laura) Miller of Dixon, TN, Regina Rose Miller of Munnsville, NY, Lorene (Marvin) Stoltzfus of Madison, NY, Matthew Miller of Munnsville, NY and Eldon Miller of Munnsville, NY; 27 grandchildren; her father Earl J. Beachy of Kalona, IA; 2 brothers Emery Lewis Beachy of Richmond, MO and Morris Earl Beachy of Kalona, IA; 2 sisters- Judy Mae Kauffmann of Smyrna Mills, ME, Sylvia Jane Miller of Kalona, IA. She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother Eldon Beachy and a grandson Jeffrey Miller.
